Thanks for the kind words! Yes, Deadworld was my first comics work. I had drawn about 10 comic pages before that, so there was a lot of learning going on.

Hover over the thumbnail for a second and I immediately recognize Barks in just a few frames. He is the most underappreciated artist in the history of everything- in America that is. Writer, penciler, inker, all done in a vacuum consumed by the name "Walt Disney".... before Disney was the all consuming corporate entity even.

I remember reading Uzumaki in the Pulp manga collection in the early 2000s. I met Jhonen at DNA lounge back in the 90s. The MOPOP is an awesome museum of pop culture and music, a great place to see so much.

The creator of Johnny the Homicidal Maniac, Jhonan Vasquez, also created the Invader Zim cartoon.

Those Faust comics look like 80 heavy metal album covers.

James O’Barr did do some covers for Deadworld. It’s also fun to point out that Vincent Locke has done most of the artwork for the Cannibal Corpse albums.

Loved all the Halloween content this month! Love these episodes of you guys just combing through issues of comics and talking about the nuance of the art form.

Digging my way through all the back episodes, love this one. If either of you have it, I'd love to hear your commentary on Bizarre Adventures # 31, A Hard Look at Violence. It starts off with a really cool Frank Miller/Denny O'neil story, then on to Dr. Deth with Kip & Muffy, which is one of the coolest comic shorts I've ever read (Larry Hama/Ralph Reese). One of the closers A Frog is a Frog by Steve Bissette & Steve Perry captures a dark day in the life of a disturbed teenager with impeccable realism & atmosphere, it's an absolute stunner. Thanks for all the epic vids, cheers!

Re: Hideshi Hino, I think the reason he hasn't been printed in english so long is that (as far as I know), there's actually only a handful of his books that haven't appeared in english. While he might seem neglected, he actually has a bigger percentage in english than Ito or Umezu (keeping in mind that the last two english Hino Horror books were never printed, we have 18 books and one short story). I would have included Suehiro Maruo as a fourth horseman but he's a risky guy to publish unfortunately. Despite being very successful in japan, Shinichi Koga never made it over here (his art isn't quite on the same level but I'd like to read it) and I'd love to see some more Kazuichi Hanawa books cross the water, and probably many more deserving artists.

Funny how there were "not for wussies" variants for Locke's Cannibal Corpse album covers.

The first comic I remember reading was an issue of treehouse of horror which had art by Terry Moore, Eric Powell and another artist. The Eric Powell story the most demented stories in it with Willie getting a mail order bird and believing it's a mail order bride and bangs it

The dead world books and caliber in general were the juxtaposition of image. All those artists were amazing and really pushing the boundaries. Lockes work on the book Rust is amazing. I have some of his original art and he’s painting, inking, as well as collages with fabric. Check it out.

Some of those Aliens books are nice, but the only one that really stuck with me was the Killian Plunkett series Aliens Labyrinths. That stuff was visceral. Whatever became of Plunkett?
