Growing up _Idaho_ leaves a distinctive mark on a person’s soul. It’s been 30+ years since I moved away from the Gem State and people still ask me where I’m from. My life is proof that you can leave Idaho, but Idaho will never leave you. If it wasn’t for my wife’s strong family ties, I would pack up our household and move back to Idaho and give my kids the childhoods they deserve.
@TrevorNet2 жыл бұрын
@Dark Blue The only reason my wife doesn’t like to visit Idaho is because the last time I routed us through Jackson. Middle of the night, a momma moose and her not so little baby moose ran out in front of our car. Baby may have been a bull because it was fully racked. I hit the second moose and it destroyed our car. Long story long, family is afraid of the drive & flying from Denver to Idaho Falls is kind of dumb when you think about how spread out things are. When we are actually in Idaho, my family loves it.

Born in Boise, lived in McCall 5 years and was relocated as a teenager in Washington state against my will. Ended up having a child in Washington and she's almost of age and it's getting closer to where I can move out of the land of the loonies and go back home. Idaho IS most certainly a better place to live if you want some semblance of a normal life. I just hope the people going there will vote conservative because take it from me you don't want what the liberals want. I'm living in it and it's not fun. The title "liberal" implies liberation and freedom but that's not what they are for. Unless it's immoral filth.

In between the wonderful place Austin was to live and all the homelessness was the phase where hoards of west coast people with money from selling their properties moved in and the cost of rent and buying property went through the roof. You knew once that happened, the homelessness and also crime would soon follow and it did. Almost as if it were planned. Austin has been designated, together with San Antonio as a future smart megacity. Cannot wait to get out. Really too bad that incredible quality of life Austin enjoyed went on the chopping block.

I’m a Californian born and raised. I moved up to Boise area last September during the lock down. I’m a conservative and with California becoming more liberal Idaho seemed like a great idea. All I can say is, it’s not the oasis I hoped for. Many people truly hate Californians. The people here are just different. Not always in a good way. Some of course are wonderful. The traffic is getting really bad and the prices have sky rocketed just since I’ve been here. The businesses love the money but they don’t want to pay the employees any better. Also- it’s a right to work state so there are zero labor laws and you can be fired at any moments with no explanation. So the decent jobs are scarce and the prices are high! There’s a lot of places to camp or hike, but not much for shopping beyond Target and chain stores. It’s very cold in the winter and hot as hell in the Summer. Oh! And bring a vat of lotion because it’s dry as toast all year long! 🤪

I grew up in Boise. Nicely done, you hit on some great things. Better than some other videos I have seen. Nampa and Caldwell definitely have some rough spots, but Meridian I would not consider dangerous in the least. It's your typical suburban America. Garden City used to be a lot rougher. It was bad when I was growing up, however, it's being gentrified like crazy right now. There are still some pockets, but overall, it's a much different place. The Treasure Valley as a whole has changed a great deal since I was a kid, and, it happened all very rapidly. I tell my daughter she is growing up in a much different city than I did.

I was born and raised in Idaho, in a small town on the border or Oregon and Idaho. I still live here and it's frustrating because I feel like it is almost impossible for locals to buy homes now. We saved up while renting, just to get evicted during the pandemic because housing prices went through the roof, and though we never missed a payment, the landlord wanted to kick us out to sell the house for way more than what it was worth. We thought, no biggie, this is just the push we need to buy a home. Got approved immediately for a loan, only to realize we are priced out of our area. We don't live near Boise, we live in a small town, and yet there is hardly anything under 250k. I understand there are homes that just cost more, and that's okay. I just wanted an opportunity to own a home for under 150k (which was perfectly reasonable for our area a couple years ago). We worked really hard to save and get our credit scores up, but by the time we accomplished that, houses doubled in price. We had to move back in with my parents, because we couldn't even find a rental for less than $900 a month (we used to pay $475 a month for a two bedroom 1 bath house). We have been trying for almost 9 months now to buy a home. And of course, we have people telling us it's only going to get worse so hurry and buy the first house in our price range (which is not ideal for first time home buyers). I guess it is what is it, but I wish Idaho would realize people who grew up in small towns, do not have a lot of places to work that pay that much over minimum wage, which is still set to $7.25.
