I've waited for a unboxing video for ages so yours came as a great surprise. A few questions though: 1) Are all buckles made of metal? 2) Will the side pocket always open the Verge case as well or is it possible to "unhook" the two? 3) What do you think of the interior of the main compartment? Greatly looking forward to your in-depth review - definitely gonna sub to your channel
@Infosmercial
@Infosmercial 6 жыл бұрын
1.) The buckles and pieces on the bag use a combination of metal and plastics (probably nylon or some high strength plastic. It’s not flimsy ABS or anything). The places where there would be the most stress on the pack generally use metal pieces. So the buckles for the main compartment are mostly metal, the hooks on the bottom of the bag and above the water bottle holder are made of metal. The connection piece for the chest strap appears to be plastic, but the hooks where you adjust the chest strap height on the shoulder straps are made of metal. 2.) So yes, you can unhook the verge case and keep it closed if you like while its still latched in the main compartment. Very happy with that. 3.) The main compartment is pretty awesome. Without the verge case in it It’s HUGE! I seriously underestimated how big it would be. Even with the Verge case in there, there is a boatload of space. It is mostly empty space with a few organization pockets on the interior walls and a large elastic storage on the back. It’s perfect for carrying large clothes, gear, etc... The main compartment itself isn’t the greatest for small items. I tend to carry lots of small things. This has been my biggest challenge so far. On my old bag, it had tons of small compartments everywhere. This bag has them, but in many different places. I didn’t like it at first, but I am actually loving it more and more. Using the storage on the verge case and the field case, along with the few smaller compartments in the pack, I am finding that I can stick all the small things in places they actually belong instead of just sort of floating around randomly. It’s nice then because when you remove the field or verge case, the small things stay with the case or bag that they should be in to begin with. Sorry for the wall of text btw. Jeez, if I keep it up, the review is gonna be a 40 minute video... 🤪

Really appreciate this review. Before this, the only one I saw was the Bo Ismono one, so it was great to see another perspective. 1) The last time I heard the word netbook was when I worked at Best Buy in '09, but now that you mention it, I think my mother-in-law may have one. 2) This is the first time hearing that the Field Space was soft-backed, so thanks for mentioning that. I would have preferred a hard back, but it's not enough to discourage me from getting it. 3) Really wish I was patient enough to wait until the full review video, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to pull the trigger on this in the next day or two.
@Infosmercial
@Infosmercial 6 жыл бұрын
Lol yeah netbooks man. Yeah the field case is fine actually. It probably would have been nice if it were a harder material inserted into it. If you have the pack crammed, the field case can start to become a little difficult to get in and out. Btw, the review is coming soon. I’ve been running the bag through it’s paces. I’d say it’s a great great bag though. It’s my favorite of all time now.

So I ended up buying it the day I wrote this, and it showed up two days ago. It’s definitely lived up to the hype, but I’m grateful for reviews like this that gave me the heads up about potential negatives, like the weight and the flexibility of the Field Space. It definitely seems like a better EDC than a travel bag, but I’m gonna put it to the test. Thanks again for this review, it’s still the best of the four or five videos currently out. I saw that Bo Ismono commented, congrats.

Man I am thrilled to hear that you like the pack. It really is awesome. I’m working on a review video right now. I will say that it was the best travel pack I’ve used. I also bought the EXM port which helped, but it was packed with clothes and toiletries for 4 days, also a battery pack, iPad, and lots of other Knick knacks. It was great. Oh yeah and BO! Isn’t that kinda cool!

Hi Brett, could you share more on below two questions? 1) Can I take the things from the main compartment (NOT from the side quick access) when I'm still wearing the bag? I am using a general computer backpack, sometime I have to put/get some kids stuff into the main compartment on street, I will slide the bag from left shoulder and hold by right shoulder, then use left hand to unzip and then put/get the stuff from that. For Prima, if I hold the bag by one shoulder, and unplug the magnetic buckle, seems it need to unfold the main access door for accessing, and will the door be too high for access? That's my most concern. (I can not always put down the bag for accessing). 2) For the verge case, I found there is only one padded removable divider, can it fit and hold firmly if I just got a small mirrorless camera only (I am using X-T2 with some prime lens)? Since for other camera backpack, there are usually many foam cushion to adjust for fitting the camera/lens in bag. Thank you very much for your reply.
@Infosmercial
@Infosmercial 6 жыл бұрын
Hey Lam sorry for the delay. So yeah I tested that out to see if I could access the top of the pack while it was still in my back. I could still get there and reach in somewhat comfortably. Now granted the pack wasn’t stuffed and only had a few things in it. It may be harder if the pack is full. I also have really long arms (I’m 6’5”) and that may have made it easier for me, but it worked. As for the dividers, yes it can snugly fit your camera body and lenses into it. Right now I actually have nine packed with two a6300 bodies, a larger 18-105 zoom, a 35mm prime, and the Sony 16-50 kit lens. I also have the mesh compartments filled with batteries and stuff. And all of that is without the bag being expanded. Everything is in there nice and secure. I know boundary is planning to sell extra dividers too so if you need another I would look into that. I personally may end up buying a few flex dividers from peak design for use with the pack.

Is there any room at the bottom of the bag if the verge case is in the bag? Great video btw.
@Infosmercial
@Infosmercial 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching the vid! Yeah there is definitely room and that’s one of my favorite parts. I could probably fit some rolled up clothes under the case, but I have been using it for small tripods and stuff too. It gives piece of mind too knowing that the bag is properly suspended from the bottom, sides, and top of the bag. I really wouldn’t have any qualms just tossing my bag with all my lenses in it on the ground.That’s a big reason I bought this bag vs a Peak Design pack.

Could you share some opinions for below two questions: 1) If I am just a 173cm height guy (HK people), will I look like a turtle when carry this big backpack? (You all tall guy looks amazing when carry those big backpack). 2) I am considering this back or PeakDesign one or Prvke 30L is more suitable for me, since I have to go around with two kids (3 & 6) for lof of stuffs (two water bottles, snacks, tissue, two kids jackets), all other 'professional' photography backpacks are not suitable for me. (For photo stuff, I just got X-T2 and 23.4 & 56.2) 3) Now, I am using victorinox deluxe backpack, it's a 30L backpack, (I just put the camera in an in-pack and then drop in the backpack), with kids stuff also, a 30L in indeed required. Will prima backpack be hard to open/close when it expanded to 30L in using? THANK YOU VERY MUCH
@Infosmercial
@Infosmercial 6 жыл бұрын
1. The pack should look just fine. It compacts very nicely when there isn’t anything really in it. Of course, it looks bigger when packed, but it more or less, it will look like most any other backpack you can buy in terms of the look of the size. 2. So I bought this pack for exactly the uses you are describing. I have a small mirror less camera and a few lenses I take with me. Other than that, I wanted space to carry all of my other stuff. I found the Boundary campaign sort of on accident as I was doing research on the Peak Design pack. I was seriously minutes away from buying Peak design. The pack design, however, was too open for me. I still wanted to buy it, but it worried me. Then I found boundary. It is the perfect pack for balancing different aspects of life and carry. Lot of organization and stuff too. 3. So I have used the Prima System in three modes: everyday carry for small stuff, jammed packed with clothes snacks, shoes, camera, etc... for weekend trips, and finally as a gear bag at CES with all my video making stuff. It does surprisingly well when packed to the brim and is probably the easiest bag to open and close I’ve ever used. Those magnetic buckles are the real deal. Hope this helps! Cheers

@Infosmercial 6 жыл бұрын
So the bag feels dense picking it up when it’s empty, but it is a very sturdy feel. Like nothing is loose or flopping around inside. I’ve had the thing absolutely jammed packed, whether for with clothes for a weekend trip or with all my video gear for CES in Las Vegas (which was about 8-10 standing hours a day with the loaded pack on me). It surprised me very much in how comfortable it was despite being how much weight their was. It’s remarkably comfortable without all the gear too for just regular everyday use. I’ll be posting an in depth review covering this and more in about 3 weeks.

Hi! So close to ordering a bag (even though it might seem I would have to wait some time to get it...) - But I was wondering; as a person who would not make great use of the verge part of the bag because I don't own a big camera - does it make any sense to go with this bag or is It mainly great for photographers? Your answer is much appreciated! :)
@lamronald7554
@lamronald7554 6 жыл бұрын
Don't worry, it definitely not work as a good camera bag (I am not sure is it good comment or not, hahaa). I got the PRIMA and used for one week, finally, I gave up the verge bag and just use PRIMA as daily back pack. The reason that I did not use the verge is the design of verge, the partition ability is so bad (the provided divided pad is too thin and the size is not fit to separate the lens and camera) for the verge, even the verge is very large, you could only good fit to one camera with len (I am using X-T2 with some prime lens), the remained space is wasted), also, when the verge is installed in the prima, it occupied almost 2/3 space of the PRIMA main compartment.. so, i gave up that finally.
@Infosmercial
@Infosmercial 6 жыл бұрын
I actually think it could be a great bag for people even if you don’t have a camera or anything. For one, there is ample storage space inside of the bag, especially without the verge case (the camera bag) in there. It opens like a duffle bag so if you plan on using something like this for things like packing clothes for weekend trips, grocery trips to the store, etc, then I feel like this is one of the best backpacks out there for that actually. You can also still use the verge case however you would like, it doesn’t have to be for camera gear. One cool thing that the company did is make a thermal insert for the verge case so you can turn it into a small cooler. That would make this bag combo great for trips to the beach, hiking, or picnics with the verge case loaded with drinks and food. Of course, you can even use that to bring it to work with you. The quality of the pack is outstanding honestly. This thing is going to last a longgggggggggg time. Lam does make some good points that the camera bag itself is not the greatest. It is actually perfect for me and my uses, but I could see why some may not like it very much. You say that you are tempted to order the bag. How is it that you intend to use the pack on a regular basis?

I need a backpack that can protect my MacBook Pro on trips to different workplaces, commuting on bike and so on and that is also good for traveling. I am close to buying this one after looking into many others (browsing carryology, looking at the Rhake from MW, the Especial from Timbuk2, Datum Treckno + others). I like the design of this + the fact that it looks like it can actually be altered enough in the shoulder straps so that it can fit most people, but since I can't try it on in a shop, it is cool to see videos and reviews like yours :)

Do you think that this backpack will fit gym clothes (shoes, shorts, t-shirt, hoodie and sweatpants), some books and my 16-inch laptop? I'm thinking about buying this bag for school, but I'm not sure if it is big enough. I have to say that your video is really good and the production as well. It reminds me a bit of UnboxTherapy.

So I have had a chance to test this bag out in a variety of conditions. I just got back from a 4 day trip where the pack was filled with nothing but clothes, toiletries, my iPad, battery charger, shoes, and more. It held everything great and was one of the best travel packs I’ve ever used. It’s so easy to access the pack since it has a duffle bag sort of style with the zipper. Not only that, but I really loaded this pack up and I still had a little bit of room to spare. To be fair, I bought their EXM port to carry my shoes, but everything else was in the bag.

Received mine last week... Haven't used it yet though (still currently very used to my AER Duffel pack for daily work/gym)... Initial comment is that there are not enough external pockets for quick access items. BUT it's still a sexy bag (I got the black one... kiiiiinda jealous of the brown one now!)... Will also start using it next week and I'll see how it goes.
@jauipop
@jauipop 6 жыл бұрын
When I talk about the lack of external zipped compartments, I'm comparing it to the AER Duffel which has 2 long side compartments with pockets on either side so I can put my toiletries on one side and electronics/chargers etc on the other. Just worried that I won't find anywhere to put those things with easy access on the Boundary!
@Infosmercial
@Infosmercial 6 жыл бұрын
Yeah I hear you. There are a few spots I wish it had extra organization like pockets or another one of those hidden tripod straps for the verge case side (like the one above the bottle holder). An external zipper case outside the verge case would have been nice too. I think they did a pretty good job overall though. It’s different than I’m used to in bags and I’ve found that you really have to keep the gear in the right areas. You have to really take advantage of the pockets in the field case, the verge case, etc...
@Infosmercial
@Infosmercial 6 жыл бұрын
Out of curiosity, why haven’t you used the bag yet? I don’t think I could have the level of self control :P
@jauipop
@jauipop 6 жыл бұрын
Yup... I just need a few more organisation pockets for all the little things (even a hidden one on in the straps on the front would have been useful for commuters to put their access cards and keys in)... Haven't got around to unpacking my AER to test this it out!! Also just trying to figure out where to put my gym toiletries. I've already got a "system" in place with my AER for home --> work --> meetings --> gym --> home that it's been hard to getting around to creating a new one. lol
@jauipop
@jauipop 6 жыл бұрын
Any update after using it? I used it for a few days and switched back to my AER bag. Was waaaaay too clunky and didn't fit the gear I needed it to. I also found the materials slightly too stiff and it was really uncomfortable putting it on and taking it off. I might try to find another use for it because it was quite the investment (even though I did get the good price on Kickstarter).

California here, got my bag last week, and it's pretty amazing. I watched your review before receiving mines and appreciated you doing a very detailed unboxing. I noticed you didn't mention anything about production issues with stitching or alignments. I noticed immediately that my center zipper isn't aligned in the middle of the bag and the two magnetic clips aren't evenly spaced apart. Did yours have the same issue? I already took some photos and sent them to Boundary. Also, the zipper on my Verge Case snags at the middle and requires some force to fully unzip it, unlike any of the other zippers on the bag. Anyways, great video!

I emailed them, posted on Indiegogo page, posted on Instagram, and they then said to send photos which I did but then I haven't received a response for a few days now. With their shipping issues and response times, I'm weary of even attempting to pursue an exchange. I know for a fact the zipper isn't centered and tried the bag with it completely packed, completely empty, with Verge Case, without Verge Case, etc. Great quality materials, but poor QA in my opinion especially on the main compartment and aesthetics.

No chest strap? Yeah, that is sort of a biggie. Hopefully they can get that worked out with you pronto. As far as the accessories, based on what I read on IndieGoGo, it is my understanding that they suspended fulfillment from their singapore facility, shipped everything to the US, and are getting ready to ship to US and international customers from their new Las Vegas facility. I don’t know how long that is going to take, but it looks like the accessories have arrived in the US. Shouldn’t be long for those now I think.

The problem is reliability. The cost as per Boundary on indiegogo was 300 odd$$ but is now available for 199 in their website, also they have a deflector called Elena who is supposed to be big source of information. but neither Cavin nor she responds, invariably the responses are cut and paste jobs. I hope they respond to the queries I have raised. This does take away some sheen from an otherwise fabulous bag.

Yeah, I’ll admit that it definitely does. From what I gather, they are only a full-time team of 3 or 4 people working on this. It also may seem that Elena is an assistant or spouse to one of the guys working for the company and is probably lending a helping hand when she can. I’m sure as they begin to offer more publicly and scale their company, they’ll bring in people to further deal with these things. They are probably incredibly overwhelmed. I know I would be. But yeah, I know literally none of that helps you right now. I just hope for your sake they respond and get it all resolved with you.

Thanks for watching it! It’ll probably be released in 3 weeks. Longer than I would like, but I would like to use the pack more, I have a few big projects I am working on, and I would like to receive some of the accessories too. I’ll let you know if it may happen sooner, but expect 3 weeks.

Oh man I wish I had an answer for you. It looks like they are finally starting to ramp up operations at their new Las Vegas facility. I’m hoping that all of these issues will be a thing of the past in the near future.

Tough to say. I have been writing the script, taking notes, taking it on trips, beating the crap out of the bag, using it in every config possible, etc... I’m stoked to do the review, but it may take about a month before I get to filming. Balancing life and working on a career transition is sapping time at the moment. Keep your eyes peeled though. Thanks for watching the vid btw! 👍

Netbooks are dead. Due to the Apple Air and Tablets and (dare I say it) Phablets, most people just don't have a use for a smaller computer. The Air was A LOT better done than the majority of netbooks as it was anyway. The small screen and crippled hardware of most netbooks, they were useless for much more then taking notes in class. And quite frankly, most of their batteries didn't last any longer then a regular laptop, So why have one? And with the Chrome Book becoming much better (and usually cheaper), they didn't stand a chance. I like the "idea" of the bag, but unless you're a photographer (and I'm not), I don't see it being useful...And @ (currently Jul '18) $219, I can find a more capable bag for my needs.

Fully packed this bag is a brick. It’s way too heavy, and compromises basic comfort for over designing. The sternum strap is waaay to short, and the pack sits too deep on your lumbar region. There is far better options for your money
@Infosmercial
@Infosmercial 6 жыл бұрын
I agree that the sternum strap should be a little longer and yes, It can be absurdly heavy when it's loaded up, but I have been really surprised with how comfortable it is when loaded. I took this thing around CES with probably 40 pounds worth on my back and it didn't ever really wear on me. Yes it was heavy, but the weight was distributed well enough that it was still sort of comfortable. What other packs have you tried that would you consider in this price range?

Infosmercial what are your initial thoughts on organizational features of this bag compared to bags like Incase City which - I know it’s not a fair comparison, prima looks awesome and has its own sweet features. But need to understand how well I can keep my stuff organized in the Prima.
@Infosmercial
@Infosmercial 6 жыл бұрын
Hey Chinmay. Sorry for the delay. As far as organization goes, I am happy with it overall. I do think there are one or two areas that could add a storage pocket and that would greatly enhance the pack. I have had to organize the pack differently than anything I have been used too but it’s a good thing. So there is organization on the field case, on the verge case, and then in the pack itself. What you really have to do is organize so that the things that you want to keep with you in each of those pieces remains there. This is opposed to simply having a large pocket that has many small compartments as is common on a lot of packs. The way Boundary did it makes a lot of sense. Overall, organizing is great with only one area I’d like to see improved.

Infosmercial there was on review uploaded few days back by someone but it was very poorly shot. When showing pocket need a close up shot to understand how it looks. Also basic stuff which techies carry need to be quickly accessible. I have personally never used a roll top bag. And $199 is expensive so will wait for your in depth review before I order mine. Thanks in advance :-)

wouldnt buy it, side pockets seem to small to work with, furthermore seems like you need to long to adjust it with the bags in the bag. This is just my opinion on the look of it, i think there are better bags

Sorry you are disappointed by it Lam. I am actually in the middle of working on the review video right now. Should be out by Wednesday, hopefully. As a note, I understand I am a little slow on things. I have a job, family, and lot of other things that I need to tend to. I am also still very new to making videos. I hope you can understand. In any event, thank you for at least leaving feedback.
