Unboxing Marino Bikes 3 Custom Steel Frame Hardtails

Today I am super excited to show everyone my custom hardtails. I have always loved steel bikes coming from a BMX background. I wanted to build my own bike to suite the local trails and my riding style. These frames are fairly XC mountain bike frames with plus size tire clearance. The medium size frame is built with Reynolds 520 Chromoly weighing in at 6 pounds 8 ounces. Built for a 120 fork 68 degree head tube, 454mm reach, 73 sea tube angle, 427mm rear end. Built for 27.5 X 2.8 can run 29 x 2.4.

I love these frames. Finally, somebody that understands that LONG, LOW, AND SLACK isn't everything... some of us do like to be able to turn their bike.

Thanks!!! Yeah, I’ve been riding long enough to know when the marketing guys are working against us. I am glad someone else out there can appreciate it as well. After riding mine for a few months I am as happy as I can be with my geometry choice.

The paint in the mediums closes the gap vs the large raw ones, that's why the weight is close Heat marks can be removed, not unheard of - my guess is that the raw frame went thru some sort of bath to have it so uniform in color and finish. That said, I was following Marino in instagram since quite a while, your videos just put this brand on my list for my next purchase! Great color choices!!!

I didn’t even think about them dipping the frame. I am still super happy with mine as I am sure you will be when you get one. I think I am going to order a fat frame as buddy just donated me a pile of parts. In the form of a bike that fell off his car.

Which tubing did you pick for these? And.. now that you've had them for a couple of months, how are they holding up? How do they feel?

Knowing these were my first builds I went for the base Reynolds 520 chromoly. I am super stoked on the one I am riding. It feels great on the climbs I just put my weight forward on the saddle and the back tire digs right in. The 27.5 wheels whip around pretty easily making light work of switchbacks. I had another frame built for a friend of mine it’s going to be a 29+ bike. I should hopefully have video of it in the next few weeks. It’s built with the nicer Reynolds 725 tubing and feels a bit lighter.

Hi when you ordered that first silver frame, did you choose a color or no? That's just unpainted? It looks awesome

It was not painted. I think they did it as a favor since I bought three. On the website it claims they won’t do it. It is the raw color of the steel. Thanks
