I’m from Italy, but since I want to move to the US my father this year took me to the USA and we travelled the whole route 66. We crossed a good chunk in Missouri, and I have to say it was one of my favorite states. The people were pretty kind and having explained to an old lady in Red Oak II my situation she even gave me pretty good advice on moving to the USA and even offered me a job complete with a roof over my head and food. Now, I don’t know if she actually could have helped me that much from a legal point of view, but she seemed sincere about wanting to help me. Also, the woods were amazing, I fell in love with them.

@@sacmac5776 you cant just move to Europe. You need a residence permit which you mostly only have access to if you have a job here. Also Europe, especially Western europe (Germany, France, Austria, Switzerland, Scandinavia) isnt cheap, rents are high and Real estate prizes are astronomical. Its still nice but you should have a good job. Southern Europe like Spain, Italy and Greece were in some sort of economical decline the last 1,5 decades so it might be harder to find a job there, especially if you dont speak the language. Eastern Europe i wouldnt recommend at all

I have lived in Missouri most of my life however I did live in a big city Houston Texas for around 10 years. The biggest difference I noticed when coming back to Missouri versus big city is people wave at each other and seem to be more personable where big cities tend to be more anonymous and mind your own business. That has it's good and bad points lol. If you get in trouble in a small town everyone is going to know it. I wanted to thak you for taking the time to interview locals. I enjoyed this video.

@Andrew Lynn, I can say for me, my first response when I got to Whiteman was, who did I piss off to get such a crappy assignment ? But it grew on me. It was my last assignment which I retired from in 1992. I wound up getting a job at Gardner Denver in Sedalia and I and my family attended church in Sedalia. I'm not sure of the consensus by active duty nowadays where Sedalia has substantially grown and with it crime has become worse. But overall it's still fairly decent. I don't have much experience with Warrensburg but I know that there are active duty airmen that choose to live there.

Thanks for another great video, Nick! My parents went on vacation in Branson a couple of years ago and absolutely loved it--and yes, they were over 70. My Mom used to have a coworker from Missouri, and he acted like someone from the Midwest, but spoke with a Southern accent. I'm surprised there's a restaurant people are excited to go to where buns are thrown at them. I'm also surprised Uranus Fudge Factory is not located closer to Lambert's. The gentleman farmer gave a very insightful answer to your excellent question about why minorities seem not to be settling in such farming communities. He made it clear that minorities are very much welcome there--now more than ever before, because of the shrinking population. And while it makes sense that people might be afraid to be the "odd one out" in such a community, SOMEONE has to be the first to settle down there long term. Someone has to have the courage to stand alone.

The farmer guy you interviewed was outstanding. Did not catch where he was from but the story he tells is spot on with my experience with small towns in Northeast Missouri. My dad was born on a farm in Shelby County. Back then it had 20,000 people. It now has about 5500. There are several abandoned hamlets and only the larger towns still survive. Farmers who were good businessmen were able to survive and thrive.

Good Evening Nick! What a beautiful State is Missouri! I loved to see all the greenery! And the lakes! It appears to me there is so much you could enjoy! Single or with your family! Yes every State has run down places but overall it just so pretty in the Summers I'm sure they also get lots of snow in the Winters. The cost of living seems reasonable even to purchase a home there! Now I can surely understand why some people have two homes! I thank you so much for sharing this video! I have enjoyed watching them all even my State!!! I truly admire this Man! I pray and hope they start helping every farmer from each State! They also need all the help they can get! I hope everyone is doing well and please stay safe 🙏

Springfield is between two weather systems. Winters are mild and some years no snow at all or snow that lasts only a day. When you see weather for the US, the weather they're showing for KC and St. L - that's not Springfield. Totally different. I moved back to Springfield from CA when I retired. I sold a 1,000 sq. ft condo built in 1972. I bought a 2,834 sq ft house on one level built in 1997. I repainted, new carpet, new window coverings, new driveway, new appliances, furnished a bedroom, office, dining room, livingroom, family room (only brought furniture for the guest room and breakfast room with me) and screened in the patio. I still had money left over for traveling.

I'm from South Carolina and love my home state but so far my favorite states have been West Virginia, Oregon and now Missouri after I was there a few weeks ago.. I adored how rural it was and how beautiful it was in such a simple way. Can't wait to visit again and see the southern part of the state in the Ozarks. And I still really need to visit Arkansas as it's the only southern state I haven't visited. North Eastern Missouri holds a special place in my heart now near Memphis Missouri❤❤❤❤ can't wait to revisit ❤❤❤❤❤!

I think he highlighted a big issue rural Missouri is having that I don't see when I go home to KCMo. The populations here are decreasing tremendously. This shift is having a huge impact on family businesses in rural areas which make up most of the state of Missouri.

Great interview with the farmer. I'm most definitely a city slicker so like he said Dillards was too far away for the Dr...I felt that. I'd have to find a happy medium. Not too far from city life but I want semi-rural where it's still small town-ish.

I'm from Sikeston Mo home of the thrown rolls (Lambert's Cafe) and Sikeston bulldogs it's a cool town just not many jobs. I moved to Columbia Mo for the jobs alot of jobs in Columbia Mo we also have a saying when you come to Sikeston...you come on vacation leave on probation...the state of Misery 🤣🤣....forgot to mention some of these towns in the bootheel are dangerous depending who you are and which town an what part of town your in...like Charleston Mo you'll get shot no questions asked....but your right about the bootheel part it does look more like Arkansas the further south you go...but I love this state it's alot of talent in the bootheel that get over looked.

Mom use to drive me up from Advance to see the dentist in Jackson as a kid in the 1960’s. I lived further south in the Bootheel as well and saw a drive around video of towns down there on KZbin the other day. OMG…what the hell happened? I’ve told the wife I’m in mid-60’s now and want to go back and see my roots. My life is so different than those people…OMG…not better or worse mind you but OMG…OMG. No wonder people hate each other politically and otherwise…we live in completely different worlds!! Fortunate enough in life that I can buy, get, do pretty much whatever I want, when I want and some of these people are living next to burned out and abandoned homes.

you actually described this state perfectly. i’ve lived in this state (in O’fallon by st. louis) for most of my life, and have lived in the st. louis area on the illinois side as well (i currently reside near chicago which isn’t terrible besides traffic) but when i did live there we got around a lot to a lot of places because my family likes to travel a lot, and the state is quite a melting pot. for example you have one of the most liberal cities in the country in saint louis and 30 minutes away you have wentzville school district making national news for banning books. it’s got everything geographically too, from roads looking like kentucky south of i-70 and farms looking like Illinois up north. its also definitely a southern state but quite beautiful even in the not-so-safe parts like the southeast. also great food, lamberts in sikeston has rolls to die for, in cape girardeau there is broussards on the mississippi which has the best cajun food ever, and lots of great food in saint louis and within about an hour and a half away in small towns, there’s ted drewes on the old route 66 in saint louis, toasted ravioli and gooey butter cake are some great dishes, and just good food overall. and people really love their fireworks even if they’re illegal. you haven’t experienced a real fourth of july until you’ve experienced one in missouri, it gets quite loud. overall great explanation of my state and how crazy it is. also GO CARDS and boo cubs!!
