I relocated from Santa Barbara/Ventura to Sioux Falls. I freakin LOVE South Dakota!! I love the people, the sense of community, virtually NO traffic, the politics, the tax structure, etc etc etc. As a outdoor adventurist, SD offers so much (except for the ocean, of course). I’ll miss surfing daily, but I can always visit my home state of California when I need that fix. Are the winters brutal? Can be. Are the summers hot and humid? Can be. My Dad and I went through South Dakota in the mid 90’s coming home from a trip to Colorado. It was a beautiful state to see. We stopped in Mt. Rushmore but we literally stood there for about a minute, took some pics, turned around and left. The Badlands on the other hand, were awesome! We had a great time driving around through there and seeing the wildlife. One of my favorite funny memories of it was stopping in an XKOA campground in Rapid City and I was this shy, quiet, awkward, kid and a couple of different girls had came up to me and started talking to me but I was so shy and afraid to talk to girls so it was short lived. Still a good time, nonetheless. Would love to go back sometime.

By the way. The far east side is the most attractive. It's hilly with lots of trees and nature preserves with creeks and the River. The Big Sioux. West River has lots of museums, hiking, fishing, hunting, skiing, camping and old west style attractions. We do have high speed internet. Besides the Sturgis motorcycle rally, we also have a few car rallies. In Rapid City we have many diverse restaurants, Summer Nights activities with concerts and movies, Art Alley, where you can see some really nice murals on the buildings. The Civic Center often has big name concerts, we host the State Fair and lots of rodeos. The weather can be crazy, 100 degrees one day and 70 the next. Pretty windy most of the time. We have some really beautiful parks in Rapid City and lots of other parks and scenic places to go just a few minutes from Rapid. Just a great place to be. Hill city and Custer are just a short ways away from Rapid and are super nice cozy lil mountain towns , there is a really great place in hill city called Newton Fork Ranch and they have super nice cabins for rent year around. LMFAO!! On ur comment about being around in 2150 that the crazy horse crap might be finished. It hasn’t seemed to change much in the last 10 years and through social media and reviews etc everyone agrees its a tourist trap as they bend you over on parking and locals say the blasts you hear are mostly just for effects to seem like there doing something with all the donations and monies they get from unsuspecting tourists. Keep up the great work Nick.

I agree that Crazy Horse is a tourist trap. They don't have the cost of parking posted,..so,..once you get to the booth and realize you have been had,....it is too late. The museum inside is actually quite nice and took away some of the sting of getting ripped off. You can get all the views you need of the monument from outside the parking lot .And,...I agree it has looked the same for the last 10 years...and will still look the same in the next 30 years.

Wrong. The Mt Rushmore monument took 14 years to complete. The crazy horse monument has been under construction for 76 years. The government made a deal to send fat checks until the monument was completed to boost tourism and the family that owned the property decided to take advantage of the tax payers and never finish the monument and collect an insane amount of money. I personally know the family as I lived in Custer SD for many years and they blow all the money on mostly cocaine and (str||pperz) I can confirm the monument will not change for at least another 3 centuries. You seriously understated how nice and polite SD residents are. You also failed to mention how many people domicile in SD but rarely visit. SD is home to a high number of Nomads who have no other state to call home.

Hubby's parents live on the shore of the Missouri River in eastern South Dakota; have since 1976. They are a long ways from the nearest city. What do they eat in South Dakota that nowhere else is a thing? CHISLIC. It's a corruption in spelling of the word "Shashlik", brought there by eastern Europeans (think shish kebab, sort of). It varies from town to town but is basically deep-fried marinated meat cubes (lamb, venison, beef) skewered on toothpicks and served with garlic salt, seasoned salt, crackers, hot sauce, etc. Definite bar food there!

I live in America and have a house in Nebraska and one in South Dakota (where I reside). The Nebraska one has a fence on three sides and the South Dakota one has no fence. The Nebraska one I had to rebuild the fence and its a constant chore. Mowing grass or shoveling snow can be a challenge. On my home in South Dakota I really like having no fence because of the maintenance of the fence line and the fence structure itself.
@magicalmystery19643 жыл бұрын
Yeah the house I bought has a short chain link fence. I want to put a full fence back there if I can, because I have cats and I’d like to keep them in the backyard

If you like white supremacy, a Governor that is forcing the state to fight an amendment that passed with more votes than she received, an Attorney General that killed a man by distracted driving and is now trying to claim the man wanted to commit suicide... Our biggest city gets most of it's water from an aquifer that is rapidly driving. And if you leave your car running when you run into a store, it WILL get stolen. If you leave it unlocked, it WILL get robbed. We're among the lowest pay for teachers. And pretty much every other job.

Hey Nick I just moved here in April from NJ... kind of a culture shocked in terms of a state still lockdown vs one that is open with no mask mandate... love it. I have notice being here they don't like blinkers and there are way more smokers than I'm use to. I moved to Brandon about 10 mins from Sioux Falls. I like this state way much more than Jersey. I do miss the great pizza from Jersey though.

I work for the National Park Service at Mt Rushmore currently. I'm not from the state, I'm from Nevada, but the state is real nice if you live in the Black Hills area. Rapid City isn't too bad. It's pretty in some areas, but it's not terribly exciting.

The Black Hills isn’t the great and grand vistas of the Sierra Nevada or Cascade ranges but driving through Spearfish Canyon on that scenic highway is one of the most beautiful experiences in my life and I’ve been through all these great mountain ranges in my long lifetime. @TaterSalad1233 жыл бұрын
@@JM-mc3mu Despite the video's recommendation probably Sioux Falls. Ideally I'd like to move to Coeur d'Alene Idaho/Kooteni Forest area, but seeing as the rent is the same as Boise @1k/500k+ houses because of all the Washingtonians and Californians moving there, Sioux Falls is first to see if I can handle 40 inches of average snowfall. 100°+ weather is nothing for a native central Californian so the heat isn't an issue. I just figure a baby step of cold, from the arid N. California winters to the treasure valley of Idaho, to Sioux Falls SD, will prepare me for either my ideal location or my secondary location choice of New Hampshire.
