I had a T one time who molted right after arriving. He was stressed and lost like 4 legs in the molt including pedipalps. I was so worried about him and almost considered putting him down, but something told me not to. I helped hold his food for him with tongs during feedings until he molted again, and grew ALL of his legs back at once, practically to the perfect size. He was a beast, LOL.

The legs grow back with their next molt just fine. It'll look smaller and have is usually kinda white, but after a couple more molts they look almost exactly the same as legs they've never dropped. Just feed them good and you're set!

@@dia21534 I've only seen the afterwards results of the leg regeneration. It comes in scrawny and white usually and they don't rely on it much for a while until they molt a couple more times and it becomes stronger. There's still hairs on it though so it looks funny.

For the rat problem in your car, just take some of Sinas furr, tie it in a bundle and tie it somewhere to your machinery where it wont get too hot and start to burn. Marten, weasels and rats wont go up there anymore because they will think there's a dog there. Thats what my dad has been doing for years and he had never issues since. You can leave it up to half a year in there before you should replace it, according to him.

I think that’s a bit too much moisture! I would just dampen it when it looks dry (also you might wanna put a mesh layer above the rocks or else the substrate will settle into it over time). Beautiful little spoods and congrats on getting them!

I have this species. You don't need to keep them that wet. They do like moisture but mine has done fine with a semi dry substrate. A good watering once a week and they are good. Less chance of mold as well. At 5 inches mine can cover the length of a 5.5 gallon enclosure in the blink of an eye.

Did anyone else notice that the leg behind the missing leg's space looks significantly smaller and a different colour to the rest with no pink on the foot. Could this mean that leg has also been lost at some point and has regrown to this during the previous moult? Could it be the result of a bad moult or is it just normal variation?

@@katyann4198 Thank you for satisfying my curiosity, Iwas scouring the comments to see if anyone had already commented about it before posting. I'm very glad to hear that your _T. stermi_ moults out without issues, hopefully the little guy in the video will do better with his next moult. Do you know if a T with an injury is likely to moult sooner than it would have had it not been injured? I know very little about arachnids and just stumbled upon tarantula youtube by accident a couple of months back. its been fascinating learning about these strange yet beautiful creatures. @Conan84 Cowen and @Majuš thanks for taking time to reply I was surprised that I didn't find any other comments about the T having a small leg that didn't match the others

I've seen people use thin weed barriers(the black mesh roll in the gardening section) It allows water run through and keeps the substrate above the water. Because over time the substrate might fill the space between the rocks.

Ive had 3 slings for a little over a year now... *Not* an expert on these but be careful not to OVER do the humidity. Mine are thriving on coco/peat moss/topsoil/sand mix with a pile of moss in one corner. Once a week I overfill their dishes and keep half of the substrate moist. As they get bigger I imagine they may need a drainage layer, but for now they're fat n happy. You're probably good with the kritter keeper set up tho, since it's so well ventilated. Im keeping mine in acrylic display cases. Just watch out for mold

I remember going camping in south africa when I lifted the ground sheet and I don't know who was more surprised me or it was an aggressive looking spider I had spent the night with there already for an argument, it was greyish not as big as T but big enough, we called all spiders in SA bobbejaans some could sure run
