Let's talk Rolex Daytona! My 'Panda' Daytona Cosmograph 116500LN with the white face has been my go to daily watch in recent years. Join me for the unboxing to check it out!
I was lucky to purchase the Daytona from an AD at retail price a few years ago, and have treasured it ever since. Arriving around the time of my 30th birthday, and the direct motorsport links to various cars and experiences that have been on the Shmee150 channel mean that it will be a keeper forever.
However, the unboxing experience is always quite exciting so let's check it out and talk about this particular watch and what it means to me.

I love the fact you have daily’d it up to this point, I don’t blame you for wanting to reduce your wearing of it especially with the risk of being attacked for it if nothing else with the amount of travelling you do.

It's sad when the market has gotten so crazy that you can no longer wear your rolex and feel safe. I blame the grey market and the social media hype for this. While I'm sure we all appreciate the appreciation there comes a point when it has diminishing returns. What's the point of having a Rolex if you don't want to wear it or even worse worried about getting hurt because you are wearing it?

@@creamfalcon Who cares, 50k+ EUR watches are bullshit anyway, it works and looks exactly the same as 100 EUR knockoffs... :) Unlike 5k a 50k EUR cars, which are completly different worlds, 50 EUR and 50k EUR watches are same in terms of looks and function.

I recently got into watches myself when I purchased a TAG Heuer. Ok nowhere near the same level as your Rolex, but it was purchased as a way to remember my mother who sadly passed away, as we would always watch the F1 together on a Sunday, and the timing was always done by TAG. She always said she wanted to get me a TAG watch,but sadly she never was able to, so I purchased a TAG F1 in her memory 🙂 So whilst not the most expensive watch around, I certainly will never part with it.

I bought a Tag Heuer Aquaracer Alarm for my 30'th 12 years ago, never missed a beat yet and not serviced so far. It's a quartz but I love it. Great watches.

May I interest you in some Carrera or probably a Black Bay Chrono, some bronze pilot chronograph watches... switch it up a little bit might be nice ... when they patina and aged it’s worth the whole thing. Maybe some Zenith or IWC... best racing IWCs I think of modern age... I think any IWC AMG Ingenieur collection would be nice addition to a collection. LUC chrono would be epic if you’re collecting some maybe after awhile you’ve collected some watches, Tourbillon with flyback chronos complications? Maybe, starts off a little first and I’d like that if you can grow up the watch collection.

finally a watch channel, I owned several speedmasters like the 38 co-ax, the 1861 and the 3861, an aqua terra, a Girard perregaux, a Tudor prince, an tag heuer 1000 professional and an aqua racer plus a few others. now I only own a Tudor black bay 58 and ordered my black bay pro yesterday. because of my small wristsize I'm limited to 36-40 mm cases max? everything above doesn't suit my wrist and looks bad. I will be adding another piece end of this year and one every year on my birthday though. I spotted your Daytona a while back and I knew you picked that one with that specific dial because of the Paul Newman Daytona panda dial. a speedmaster pro would suit you very well too and perhaps a seamaster or rolex explorer. I know there are many better and more expensive options but these watch are perfect daily watches and robust.

I got a Submariner just before the very first lockdown and the values have gone crazy now, Chrono24 has them valued at 197% of retail price which is starting to push them in to the territory of not being comfortable to wear as a daily.

Using words like sapphire and dial in place of glass and face will give you more credibility. The laser etched crown in the sapphire is most definitely not an identifier of a genuine watch although it's execution can give clues.

Hi Tim, love the videos on all of your channels and I’m thrilled that you have now added a watch channel! I just wondered if you realised that your chronograph is running when you filmed this? The chronograph hand only moved when it is activated and I noticed that it is constantly moving throughout the video. Normally the bottom secondary dial is the one that should move constantly! Watches are my most focused passion at the moment. I would love to collect cars one day but the space is still an issue. So I collect watches. I own couple Casio's Timexes and Citizens at the moment. And some vintage watches that are currently at restoration. My dream watch is a Omega Seamaster Worldtimer. I saw it in person and totally fell in love with that watch. I hope I will be able to purchase it in the next 8 years so it will be my 30th birthday present.

I've been on AD wait list for about 4 years for a Daytona. I'm beginning to believe that I'll need to win a race in Florida to get one. The value of these watches in the secondary market is now around $50k, so as a daily it is a target for theft. I bought a Tudor Pelagos and a Rolex GMT "Batgirl" while I await the Daytona.

THANK YOU, finally we get a video on the watch I’ve certainly been most interested in out of your collection, and I’d say it would be a tad strange if you effectively “retired” it and didn’t wear it very often anymore, these watches are meant to be WORN as you do, so tucking it away as an investment almost, kinda seems a bit unfair given the life it’s had so far, in fact, I’d say that Daytona has a better life than I do lol… do you actually ever have reasons to use the chronograph? Cant belive youve had it close to 4 years now, time flies. I cant say I recall you having other Rolex (at least that you've worn in videos), so can you elaborate on how it worked as the "reward" watch? Ive seen Puppi with a datejust before so maybe that was it, but I feel like you'd have to buy more than just one to get a Daytona. Also, do you still have your Tag from the early days of videos?

Just found out about this channel. Your Rolex looks amazing...I asked about your watch on one of your videos once. I've got a Daytona but my watch is an homage watch from Pagani Design......I just liked the look. Is it a cheap watch...yes but the style is still there. I like watches but I can't spend Rolex kind of money on them. I have recently ordered a Panzera Time Master 45 Chrono steel Mk 1 but I've got to wait until this coming August to get my watch.....but in doing so I recieved my watch at half price.

Considering a basic old used stainless Submariners now go for $10,000 - $15,000, which just a few years ago they were $5,000, I can't imagine what the Panda is likely worth now. I am not exactly happy with how Rolex and their preferred sellers are doing business, but it is keeping their used and new watch values high and current customers happy.

Top tip for cleaning the stainless steel strap Autosol 75ml metal polish

Or just luke warm water, hand soap and a very soft toothbrush. Does the job very nicely. Using abrasive polish on the bracelet of a collectible watch with decent price tag is not the best.

Ironically, the winners of The Rolex 24 at Daytona are often given Submariners and not Daytonas. I have actually never seen a Daytona presented to winners, just two-tone Submariners with the engraving on the caseback.

@@Shwatch150 I can’t speak for all of the races held, but back in the day, only the overall winners received the Rolex. Many class winners would contact Rolex and order a Daytona with the “Winner” inscription on the back. Rolex would accommodate this. I think there is such a shortage and process for acquiring a Daytona that they have a hard time getting these distributed! I would think a very rare Rolex Daytona would be one that was actually awarded at the race itself instead of “requested” by someone after the fact. I was fortunate enough to be in Long Beach in the early ‘90s when I was in the lobby of the Hyatt with Paul Newman. He was wearing one of his many Daytonas. I had mine on and proudly held it up for him to acknowledge lol. Rare watches indeed!

Review of the watch with any close shots is pretty much “missed”, strange that platinum writings on the ceramics have darkened so much over time…always felt that black version is much more better looking, nevertheless it’s a top choice for car enthusiasts
