Just want to say: This video was meant to have a positive message and story behind it, and to illustrate that many watches hold value and make rather profitable investments. Similar to how I bought and owned a Lotus Exige for 5 years, while also making money from it - sometimes these purchases are a little unorthodox, without ever losing value. This purchase would be similar to me holding cash in a high yield savings account from a financial perspective. Just wanted to clarify.

prob too late but bro censor your limited edition number and serial number. Fake watch producers search the internet for the exact number and reference of these extremely rare pieces and make their counterfeits that exact number. It sucks to have your REAL watch be the model for all the FAKES produced. (or revel in the fact of knowing that you have the real slim shady on your wrist)

The great thing though is that there are so many fantastic watches for not a lot of money. I got my dad a seiko cotura automatic that looks great and is a self winding automatic with an open heart front and visible back, sapphire glass, black alligator leather strap, for 200 something on amazon. My bulova that is also a self winding automatic with open heart front and clear back panel, was similar price. Just so many fantastic watches in the 200-600 price range.

@@adamwallace3647 I am in the USA. I've bought all of my recent watches online because most retailers charge a massive markup. I would assume online retailers aren't selling at a loss, but it's not unusual for the price online to be less than half of the store price. Occasionally the stores run sales which brings the price down to equivalent, but those sales are short term.

@xPumpinLeadx PSN It's not the fact that they're expensive to purchase for your kitchen, it's the fact that someplace like Starbucks would charge $10 a slice for avocado toast if they could. Remember when Graham first started talking about avocado toast? Sales went from something like $15K a year to almost $900K a year in b2b years. But, at the end of the day just realize this is an analogy at the end of the day. You could go out, spend $20-30 on a meal, or cook it at home for $5-10.

Section 162(a) allows a deduction for all the ordinary and necessary expenses paid or incurred during the taxable year in carrying on any trade or business. A 20,000 dollar watch is neither ordinary nor necessary so it would not apply. Additionally, he specifies it is also for personal use and in cases where the item is for business AND personal use, you can only deduct the portion that's used for business. So either way, not really a business expense unless his CPA can justify it to the IRS, which I highly doubt.

The force is strong in you so your grandpa guided you to his watch :) We had a Zenith TV in the past and I learned something new about Zenith from watching this video. I never knew that they make watches and thought they had gone out of business already. As for buying a very good watch, especially those with real gold, it is a good investment since very good watches appreciate in value. I inherited a Rolex watch from my dad and it is a vintage winding watch. A watch shop owner wanted to buy it from me but I won't sell it for sentimental reasons. I also bought a Sandoz gold-plated automatic watch around 20 years ago, and it is still running smoothly. Plus, I don't need to spend on batteries. My Sandoz has the Rolex style face and strap so people think I am wearing a Rolex hehehe, but it is still a Swiss watch anyway and Sandoz is/was a good watch brand despite being less pricey than a Rolex. I just had my Sandoz serviced this year for the first time after all those years. Imagine that! The gold-plating is still shiny and intact. It has few scratches considering the years it has been worn so it is indeed a sturdy watch. Too bad that they went out of business which makes my watch more valuable to me since the brand won't exist in generations to come so I will see it as rare. As Beat the Bush said, it is better to buy quality for longevity so it is worth the price. Just make sure you buy it with money you have, though!

There is one value here that keeps escaping him, when trying to justify his purchase, when there is no need...priceless. When something has a value to you, outside of money. Thats the sentimental value.

Hey Graham, thanks for sharing your story and the unboxing of your new watch! I totally get the sentimental value of things. I have a pocket watch that I inherited from my dad that is nice but needs a lot of work. Hopefully get around to it one day. Both Zenith watches are awesome in their own ways. The new one is stellar, while the older one says.. "yea, I'm a man.. and it's 1970... let's party!". :)

What a steal! You're going to be on top of that in 8 years and basically retired in 15 years since you're going to be renovating it. You could just finish it and throw it back on the market for a nice stack of cash to roll into another estate. When you're playing with that kind of money don't let it sit around and wait for a catastrophe.

It hasn’t appreciated, but the watch I’ve had my eye on for about 20 years is a first generation Rolex Yachtmaster with stainless and platinum. It doesn’t have the sentimental value that yours does, but it’s always been neat to me. I have seen them drop in price by about $1500 in about that 20 years.

You just lived my dream scenario. The idea of finding a watch my father or grandfather wore was always a dream of mine! To keep a piece of them with me, or to buy a watch they previously owned! Great video. What a nice story from a sad one. And then to have the contemporary version also is just icing on the cake 🎂
