​@@nelson5523 toys aside, yes, as long as you can approach that statement from experience rather than negligence, thats all a "survival" situation should feel like: camping (as austere as it might be). So, it may feel like a joke, but that is the end game; to be skillful and knowledgeable enough that it never actually feels like survival. And, theres a whole psychology to that in terms of success. On the toy front, they say the more you know, the less you carry..... not necessarily true, because carrying less means more work needs to be done on the landscape. But, it does allow you to shift your focus to comfort and liesure.

the stanley cook pot has a handle like it and i switch that one often so it was a surprise when i did it on camera and it worked

I pre-ordered long enough ago that I'd forgotten about it, it was delivered a few days ago. Merry Christmas to me! 🤣 I love the stainless version, I have some Cold Handle skillets as well, this should be a good fusion of the two. Not gonna lie, it would have NEVER occurred to me to take the handle off to see if it would hang over the fire. You're a genius!

Got mine today as well. Been using an old cold handle for awhile, really looking forward to trying this one out. I didn’t get any extras with mine but I’ve got plenty of stickers. It might be possible to find a cheap skillet at a dollar store that would have a compatible lid, although I also have the old pathfinder skillet and grill that fits inside.

I was able to get my order in a few minutes before the stated release time so I think I was among the first orders. I received mine a few days before Christmas and look forward to using it. Hope you put out some cooking review videos using this skillet. It’s heavier than what I expected which should make for even heating. I did the bundle with the cordura bag but should’ve ordered just the skillet and then add the waxed canvas bag designed for the stainless skillet.

Thank you sir. Mine came early. It arrived this morning. Already fried some bacon and eggs. 100% no regrets purchasing….build is spot on, hefty and sturdy but not too heavy, and no sticking. I love it! Thinking to buy another in the future for myself and as gifts. Can’t wait to try your handle reversing. Good job coming up with that! I’ll have to try it with the 8” stainless steel one to see if it’ll work with that one too.

That looks nice, I like the handle system. I’ve got one of those Swedish hunter’s carbon steel skillet, it has a folding hollow tube handle that you can put a length of branch in to extend it. You have to season them yourself, helps if you lightly sand first with a coarse grit so the oil seasoning gets a firm hold. Happy to say my Pathfinder’s Swedish Army canteen and cup’s waiting for me at the post office to pick up, just got to the UK over Christmas.😁

Blackie, that skillet looks good. I myself enjoy the feel and use of a new piece of camping equipment. I’m looking for a larger version of the one you received with extra long handle. I saw a few years ago but didn’t buy them; back then I had a cast iron but it as you know is heavy.

i have heard dave canterbury and campcraft will find cool handle skillets and they restore them and sell them not sure were they do that at but the seem to be very common skillets in the antique shops /junk shops in the ky / OH area ya may check with them

Mine arrived too - used it on the stove the last two mornings for breakfast. Honest thoughts on it: way higher quality than I imagined, though slightly heavier than I was expecting and smaller than I was hopeful for, but overall it's going to work great. I'd order another one if he came out with a 10 inch version. I found it easily cooks 3 pieces of bacon if the slices are cut in half. This is a skillet for one man and a lady if the lady doesn't eat a lot, or one man and a small kid (it'd be hard to feed a man and a hungry teenage boy). I also ordered the pouch for it, and I'm very happy with that. This is going to replace my GSI nonstick with a folding handle.

I suspect you'll like carbon steel. I have a couple of carbon steel fry pans, but they are house bound at this point. I do have a cool handle sheetmetal skillet that I modified. I cut the handle off even with the circumference of the skillet and then forged a folding handle that looked like a tow worm that was riveted to the pan. All I need to do is whittle down the end of a stick to fit into the spiral of the handle. Everything folds inside the skillet when packed. It's my go to along with a tin boiler when I'm out primitive.

One thing i like about rivets is that even if they get loose, a ball pein hammer can tighten it right up in a jiffy

I prefer the handle or the hinge for the handle be welded on the carbon steel skillet. The handle that is riveted on the skillet is a no go for me.
