My wife and I are enjoying our wonder mill for 21 years now. Save that extra filter you will have to buy more because it will send flour dust out without it. Oh, the lid on the mill snaps on top of the little bucket for easy storage. Also you do want to freeze the wheat for 5 days min. to kill all the "no see'ems/hitch hikers" that are in your bags. We didn't and a year later after opening a bucket they were everywhere in it. Lord God bless you both hope this helps.

I purchased one for Christmas. I like it, but the pastry setting is not fine enough, so, my solution was to run the grain I ground on patty setting through my kitchen aid attachment that grinds wheat and it was a full on success.

I just started milling too! I absolutely love it. I was at a homeschool convention, years ago, and found out about the Bread Beckers- thank God! In addition to being a great source for buying grain, milling supplies, and a ton of other things, Sue has a ton of wonderful recipes and tips that have made this journey so much easier than it would've been without her. If you're anywhere near Georgia, they offer co-ops so you can get grain and other things they sell (ex. honey) without the shipping cost. I'm in no way affiliated with them, but just wanted to share the great resource I was blessed to find.

Soft white wheat is what is used to make pastry flour, whereas hard red or hard white wheat are used for breadmaking etc. You can get the pearly white pastry flour after grinding the soft white wheat by running your flour through a sifter or flour strainer to get the bran/wheat germ out. Great video. I'm waiting for my Mockmill grinder to come in and then I'm starting the revolution too. I can't wait to see some of the bread you're going to make! Good luck.

I froze my bags of berries for 24hrs in our deep freezer and I think that should be plenty of time to kill any eggs. I milled some rice on my initial mill to clean it out so I didn't have to waist any of my berries. And I agree it is crazy loud to me!!

Hey Kim. I'm just getting started with making my own breads for family health purposes. I was wondering if you are still using the Wondermill or have you switched to anything else. I was looking at some of the electric stone grind mills like the Nutrilmill Harvest and was wondering what helped you decided which direction to go with your mill purchase. Thanks!

Can you use this for delicate pastries, cakes? Or just rustic breads and muffins? Also, I don't understand the refrigerating so as to not lose nutrients. Doesn't the heat from the oven do that anyway to a point?

I'm inspired to get my mill out. Haven't used it in years. I have some grains that are around 8 years old. They were frozen and stored well, do you know how long things like that stay good?
@homewithkim3 жыл бұрын
That's awesome! From what I have read and learned, wheat berries can last for a very very long time if stored correctly (which you have done). We personally rank them up there with beans, honey, and all survival foods.

@homewithkim3 жыл бұрын

@hardmoneylendershouston2 жыл бұрын
@@homewithkim vacuum sealing is difficult with powder and could even ruin the vacuum sealer if the powder gets in the system. Best to just vacuum seal the grains and use and needed.

Add a coffee filter on top of the flour in a jar, then vaccuum seal.

The other one that I know a little about is Mock mill. It has sleeker design and the milled wheat flows right into your bowl. I think that they are comparable in cost and abilities.

@homewithkim3 жыл бұрын
Sorry Ben, I have never made masa. I honesty don't know if you could run corn through this grinder. Most grain mills say "any small, dry grain" is doable, but you could also just buy a corn miller. Sorry I wasn't better help.

Question, so when the suspected "bug, larvae, eggs", are killed by freezing, we still eat them. We cant sift them away, or remove them . lol who knows what we have eaten all our lives from the regular store bought flour , meal, rice, beans.

@homewithkim2 жыл бұрын
I have both. I use my electric mill almost daily but it is nice to be prepped with a manual mill if power were to go out. If you are going to use a manual mill daily I would opt for a larger one to save time, which I am currently looking for :)

Just found your channel and wanted to share my story with healthy grains lifestyle. I was breaking out in night hives every night. Took pictures to show dr I was miserable he told me things to try, no relief he finally gave me Allegra it worked I could sleep again but like you, I felt it was a bandaid covering up something talked with dr he said sure we could run tests and in the end probably not know anything more for sure but you spending a lot of money just take Allegra. Hummm not my answer so I started digging and found Sue Becker and her vast knowledge thought wonder just wonder if fresh milled bread is my answer so after much research I bough the mock mill and ordered my wheat and made bread from Sues recipe it was wonderful tasting but we’d had home made bread before and gained weight eating it so that stopped but this was different no weight gains regular bowel action and we felt better not sluggish but the Allegra was still there this is six weeks in, so didn’t take it that night slept all night, I chalked it up to Allegra build up in my body no Allegra next night humm maybe on to something there. So forgot one day to eat two slices and 3 am😳 itching and hives returning I jumped up went to bread ate a slice it calmed right down so it WAS working that’s been a year and half took my dr a loaf and asked him why it stopped the hives??? He didn’t know but asked how I even tried it and next time in he said you may bring your favorite dr bread anytime you wish! Side note: the mock mill will also grind corn for grits and cornbread where wondermill only makes flour out of it. Also mockmill is stone ground and quieter than wondermill now mock still is noisy but not like the wondermill. Might want to check it out and bless someone with the wondermill😉. I go by how my foods look in the making process more then measuring especially with wheat flour. Don’t go by what you want that dough to look like or you will make nice doorstops! It’s all a learning curve. Start with Sue Becker’s bread recipe and learn from there exactly at first.
