Alright y'all, this video is all about my wonderful and amazing Wondermill Electric Grain Mill! I will be doing a general review, good maintenance to keep your machine in top condition, and a few of my own personal trouble shooting methods that has helped me in the past.
Good news - these maintenance tips can be used on other grain mills as well!

I have a Whispermill, had it for longer than 20 yrs. I am very happy with it. I had it happen sometimes, when it would stop working in the middle of grinding regular wheat or rye. Since the company does not exist anymore (not afraid to void the warranty), my husband took it apart, yes, it is possible. He cleaned it out and it was working again. I have heard that one should grind some corn once in a while, that gives it a good cleaning. Since I don't use it every day, I do wash the lid of the container and dry it as good as I can, then leave it upside down on the container to air dry any further, but I don't put everything back together yet. Then when I want to use it again, I put the lid back together, put the foam back in its place and put it onto the container again and I grind my grains. :)

Thanks for this! I’ve been a hobbyist sourdough baker for a few years, and have really wanted to start making my own flour. I just got a Wondermill for $10 (brand new) on BidFTA. can’t wait to get milling!

Wow, that's incredible! Freshly milled, whole grain flour is a different animal, for sure. But stick around - I have tons of recipes just for 100% whole grains.

2 good reasons for cleaning your mill after each use before putting it awat. 1. Flour will go rancid over time if nothing is in the flour to prevent that possibility. That is why store-bought flour has such a long shelf life. If your home-milled flour starts to go bad u will not be happy with the taste or smell. 2. Bugs and rodents, etc. will be attracted by the smell so again that would not be a good thing as they can cause havoc for u.

I have the whisper mill. It looks just like yours. I got mine in 1996 when I first learned about the ability to grind my own wheat. I tell my friends that I’m like the little red hen, I grind my own wheat then bake my own bread. They are skeptical about eating my bakery goods because they’re used to buying at the store. I won’t get bakery goods from the store, I just can’t eat that anymore.

Yes!!! We are the Little Red Hens lol I always think of that too when I read the story. I’ve had people a little skeptical too, but when they try baked goods from freshly milled wheat they love it!

Is your mill still going strong? Considering buying a used Whisper Mill (they used it for about 8 years weekly and has been “resting” for two years) I’m hesitant to buy a Wonder Mill as full price just yet.

I got the wonder mill in 2019 a year before the Covid outbreak and I was so blessed because you could not find flour anywhere. I had plenty of wheat berries both hard and soft and kept my family in bread and pastries.

That's awesome! I have never been more grateful for my grain mill and grains than when 2020 hit. I was considerably ahead of the game while everyone else was scrambling. I am truly thankful the Lord led us to do this a decade ago!

Started milling my own grains a couple of months ago, love, love, love it. Started with a kitchenaid grain mill, which actually does a great job on dent corn, but got an amazing opportunity to purchase a year old Wonder Mill. I really don't know. You can try it, but you may have to grind them twice.

Yes. Only a fine setting on the Wondermill. The Nutrimill Harvest is what I am using at the moment and that has the ability to do fine flour all the way to cracked grains.

If you have a harvest right freeze dryer and freeze dry your sprouted grains, would they be able to work in the WonderMill?

Ok I bought a wonder meal off eBay and it has an adjustment like yours on it but you can turn it 360 degrees so I’m not sure if it really adjusts anything. Does yours turn 360?

With the Wondermill I have never noticed any difference when turning the dial EXCEPT it seems to open things up a bit more for when I mill whole corn. Otherwise, you just get the same fine flour no matter what.

Yes you certainly can! Just know that the Vitamix can get really hot, so you will only want to do about 1 cup at a time so you don't cook your grains.

I got a Drop of water in mine, from it being next to my sink, I tried to turn It upside down, and then I ran white rice through it, it's still working ok but not sure if I'm going to have issues, I gotta be more careful has anyone else had this happen? I have to look for my book.

I just received my Wondermill. As soon as I turned it on the mother smelled like something was burning. Is this normal?

My adjustor knob got stuck on Course setting after grinding dry beans. I tried grinding a small amount of wheat, then turning the knob. It was resistant, but did move(I didn't put a ton of pressure on it) and now the knob moves beyond the pastry setting to the left. The wheat flour now comes out grainy-feeling. Is my machine stuck on course now?

What do you mean it gets stuck? The wheat berries get stuck in the hopper (or whatever it's called you dump the grains in ha)? I have heard of people having this mill, but I have no experience with it. Considering the price, I wouldn't be expecting anything getting stuck like that.

She is incorrect when she says that the Nutrimill’s flour bowl doesn’t have a lid. It absolutely does have a lid which you put on before you slide the flour bowl into the mill like a drawer. The lid connects to a port when you slide the bowl in. The bowl can hold significantly more milled flour than the Wondermill, too. Best of all, the Nutrimill doesn’t have that scary clockwise jerk when you turn it on, because the mill heads are mounted horizontally so that the momentum generated goes down instead of sideways. This also allows you to put grain into the grain hopper without turning the mill on first and it won’t jam the mill when you turn it on.
