Good Video Mark and nice to see the filters and how they work. I use the Kase filters. Reason i like them is because they all store away individually in a case, they are all magnetic and work really well on the camera and can be stacked as well. But the best part is that they are all colour coded so it's easy to grab the one you want when you are out in the field. All you have to remember is to purchase the biggest filters for your biggest lens and then with the smaller lenses you just need to purchase the step up adapters and happy days you have one set for all your lenses with no vignetting issues. Keep up the great videos, they are very enjoyable to watch, and you are helping me improve my photography.

Looks like a great set of filters. I've been using the Freewell magnetic filters for several years now. They were making some that were cpl/nd combo filters, which l enjoyed. Unfortunately, i had the set fall out of my pocket in the wilds one winter and never recovered them. Freewell doesn't seem to be putting the combo filters for the 82mm anymore. The locking feature on the Nisi Filters looks great! I've bumped magnetic fiters off my lens before.

Agreed on ease of use! I own the PolarPro Summit kit. On the one hand, it's amazing. On the other hand, it's fiddly to attach. I almost always carry it "just in case" and almost always end up not needing it. I should probably be more intentional ahead of going to a location to decide if the system will add something or is more likely to be unnecessary weight to carry on my svelte, rapidly aging frame.

@seanarmstrong846019 күн бұрын
You can order different sizes, but the step up rings are all coordinated to 82 mm filter sizes, so lens hoods don’t fit very well. Nisi claims they will have a solution for this as the full system is developed down the line in the future

I have Kase filters, one thing that drives me crazy is that if I try to pull off an ND filter that's on top of the clear UV filter, it will pull off all the filters and I have to be very specific and forceful to just get the one filter I want off. I LOVE that these lock in place. wish. I had seen these before I purchased my current filters
@seanarmstrong846019 күн бұрын
Remarkably the version of the landscape kit sold in China does not contain all of the same components as the set sold in other countries. It doesn’t have as many step up rings and it only has 2 ND filters and the CPL filter. The spelling is correct and they come in different colors. Blue is for the ND and white is the CPL filter. I look forward to using them soon
@baxterbradford7063Ай бұрын
Mine arrived a short while ago. Wish the NDs are colour coded like other makes. I have marked 6 & 10 stop ‘handles’ with white tippex lines in groove to identify in low light. Tested them 3 & 6 stop are incredibly neutral though 10 stop is about 500K out, though this far better than my Kase set of rectangular ones. I am finding locking aspect fiddly in the field, but expect to get the knack soon. Also juggling them trying to keep dust free.
@HR-wd6cwАй бұрын
The locking mechanism is nifty, and would hep prevent filters from getting bumped/knocked off, which I'm guessing can happen with traditional magnetic filters (probably very useful if they have a lens cap that does the same thing, so it doesn't come off during transport too, which is sometimes an issue with some lens caps -- they can come off due to how they clip into the lens filter threads). (You could probably keep the filters stacked on the lens too, with the outer protective cap in place and then just store the rear protective cap somewhere, for an ultra-compact storage option for travel, although I still prefer to use a small pouch of some sort to protect my filters.)
@echoauxgenАй бұрын
Great video!!! I think you already know this, there are filters for the back of a lens also and there is a BIG difference between a front filter and a rear filter. My example is the polarizer, no rear circular but on one system some years back I think, on the ultra wide like 10/12/14 and 16mm's you an get that hump of blue in the center and when doing landscapes out of the woods and close in places you can get it also you need to do the thumb and forefinger thing of where the sun is. The rear filter no need to do all that and there is no blue hump and if doing a panorama you do not need to play with settings to get normal value for across the panorama track. It is a physics thing with light going through all the glass in the lens vs the last glass before the sensor, they also have the different stop sets for milky water shots. I forgot to take the Clear Night filter out of my FE 12-24mm f/2.8 one day while doing a scouting day before that nights Milky Way for framing and distance from ground subject for doing a Milky Way Panorama over a big fort. The point is when I realized it I did some into the sun and 90 degree captures and no problems like with a front CPL. The results from the rear Clear Night filter were perfect colors of a beach, water (river to the side) and foliage of trees. It is what a Clear Night filter does is cancels the bright amber lights at night but today with LED white lights no need. I do like the CPL for seeing the bottom of stream with rocks on the bottom and leaf's floating in like in mid air or looking in a glass window and taking the refection away, Just giving some info on the use of rear filters and IF you use a Sony 12-24 or 14mm with petal that non removal the system will not ! But there is a secret solution using a lens for the ultra wide 12mm, the Sony E 10-18mm (15-27mm in 35mm) f/4 OSS a 2013 APS-C lens that is very small but can be used in Full Frame mode from 12-18mm (18mm if you remove the light shield in back) Also with Threads up front for filters.kzbin.info/www/bejne/j6TYXop_qJKFZ80 Also there is the new Laowa 10mm f/2.8 with threads up front and a removable petal for Sony and Nikon for those wanting to get a panorama like image but in a normal size frame, my take is pinpoint stars and great vertical sides have used for night MW's But still the trail in the stars goes horizonal but great for a portrait view panorama in August when the ARCH top is way overhead and beyond and in the woods landscape the trees stand straight no leaning. Just a little add info. Great filter system!!!!

How easily can the CPL be rotated with the magnets? I once had a magnetic system of an other vendor. The CPL rotation was realised the same like the NiSi JetMag Pro. But it was very cumbersome to use because the magnet increased the friction and it sounded like scratching metal on metal. It was nothing like it is on NiSi's Swift System or the V7 Filter System where the CPL has its own smooth and easy to move rotation mechanism.
@MarkDenneyPhotoАй бұрын

How do you mount the lens hood?
@DonDickinson-o9oАй бұрын
I know that with the Kase circular filters, you cannot attach the lens hood. If you want a lens hood, there is a separate magnetic hood that you can buy... but , it's basically one size fits all.
@carlosrio503Ай бұрын
It seems like they are wider than the lens, so you can’t put on a lens hood? Concerning magnetic filters, yes, they can lose their magnetic strength… and cold temperatures make it worse. Mine suddenly started falling off at -25F. Then their magnetic strength never returned. Sent it back to manufacturer in China ( at my cost) and they “re-magnetized” it for me. But it is still too weak to keep the filter on as I walk around. So, I like the spin&lock option!

I may be missing something, but can you please explain more about how the locking system works on the polariser? My understanding from the video is that the filters can be locked down by rotating them to a position where they can't fall off if the magnetisation weakens. It sounds like a nice idea... But with the polariser - it seems that you have to rotate the whole filter to reach the optimum position to polarise your image. What if the optimum position for polarisation doesn't match the locking position - is the filter then relying solely on the magnetisation to hold it in place? Thanks!

That seems like a pain in the field. Real test is "you have 5 seconds to put on and also take off a filter as the light is changing. Its also getting dark and cant see the white locked line." Or possibly maybe you are doing a time blend and on a tripod but you can't move the camera a nanometer. Or a full polarized shot and then not and blending in post. Seems like Kase or Kolari Atlas has the upperhand in these cases.

Well that's annoying - i just bought a set of NISI 82 mill screw on filters, wishing they had magnetic ones- typical! these look great and i really like the extra bayonet lock...
@PeterWigenBjarnoeАй бұрын
Magnets only begin to lose their effect after approx. 80 years old, so I don't quite understand the meaning of the bayonet lock and not at all on the CPL filter, which must be in a certain position which is not necessarily in the locked position. But you are absolutely right that filters must be easy to use, otherwise they are not used enough. I myself have the "old" system with 100mm square filters and a frame that you screw onto the lens, NiSi V5 I think it's called, and I don't always want to mess with it. I think I should take a closer look at the filter system you show here, because it looks like an investment that is worth it.
@DonDickinson-o9oАй бұрын
To my understanding, the CPL is only using the bottom ring for locking, while the outer ring freely turns.

Not good - and they also spelt "true" incorrectly ;). Then again, in America that would be "spelled." Jokes about US/UK language aside (Colour / Color) I do actually find it vexing when manufacturers are slip-shod with their literature and packaging. It may not be indicative of their product's quality but I tend to take it as such. Mind you, I see bad writing everywhere now - including the BBC News website, because the journalists are required to produce so much copy about so many different items in any one day that quality-checks are inadequate. We all expect things as quickly and cheaply as possible, so I suppose something has to give-way. Cheers.

What the hell is so hard about turning a screw on filter? Perfect alignment. No light or water leaks. Simple to make. Ultra reliable. The problem with filters isn’t attaching them it’s having to clean them every time you use them. Fix that and you’re in business.
