A friend received the game a few days and it included both sets of the maps. The newly printed maps were in the cellophane and the "defective'"maps were in the box. I was a early pre-order so I received the new maps over a week ago.

Great video. My great-grandfather, I'm his namesake, was at Cold Harbor under Grant detached from the Army of the James - fortunately guarding a supply depot - and fought at the Crater. He also was also supposed to be in the third wave at Fort Wagner, before their assault was called off. He survived three horrendous battles by pure luck. Plus disease. Looking forward to receiving mine.

I'd be interested in seeing what counter trays you use for the game. I'm a patron but don't have my own printer so I need to have someone else print them out for me and don't want to waste or not have enough trays to fit everything

Are you sure you got the untrimmed maps? Some people have been receiving the untrimmed maps in the box, and then a separate package with the trimmed maps.

Well, right on the heels of splashing $140 for Winter's Victory, I just got a good deal on a copy of On To Richmond II on ebay to get it for $180 all up with shipping. This is now the most expensive title I've ever bought. (I'm frugal that way ... and I've had good luck getting GREAT deals on some other games that should have set me back a lot more than they did!)

So, realistically, if a person already owns Grant Takes Command AND On To Richmond, do you feel the rather expensive price tag is worth it just to get the Petersburg camapign?

Personally? Yes. EDIT: There's also an update to OTR. Less so with GTC, which originally released under the then-new series rules.

My understanding of The Crater was that it was Burnside's affair, not Grant's, and Burnside was doing all his tunneling under the CSA fortified lines in secret. He was stripped of his field command afterwards (notice that in the final Race to Appomattox, IX Corps no longer has a Burnside counter commanding it).

Oh, that Ambrose!!! He had a pretty colorful Civil War career, didn't he? He was there at 1st Bull Run and as late as The Crater!! He did get around!!!

@@Stiglr He was also the inventor of one of the early carbine rifles. His family was originally from SC and he was engaged to a woman that literally left him at the alter, yelling “NO” when asked by the reverend if she took him for her husband. During the war he had her family arrested (she actually WAS CSA spy). 😂

uh boy now I want this game bad and I just dumped almost 300$ on western front ace,eagles in the sky,and grand havoc.If you do a play through try and include the fog of war optional rules.Thank you for doing this and as usual ardwulf unboxings are fun and informative

Happy to add this to my collection! I have throughly enjoyed the other nine GCACW games I have. (As well as their Line of Battle Series). Has MMP (The Gamers) discussed any intention on venturing out into the Trans-Mississippi theater? Is there another combat timeline that replicates this series mechanism?

I mentioned somewhere the other day that I prefer the matte map finish that we got from Avalon Hill. But then, I'm gonna put plexi over the map anyway, so it's kinda moot.
