Seeing ZT factory customs mostly makes me sad these days. ZT used to be such an innovative brand and, most importantly, weren't afraid to take risks on unique boutique knives like this. I had many of them. The 0454 was phenomenal. I was so hyped for the ZT 0427; which sadly seemed to mark the death knell for the factory custom line.

I bought one on the secondary market and paid a lot but it is worth more now than what I paid for it. When you can find one they go upwards of $1800. I've seen them for $2400.

My wife bought me a ZT knife back in 2016 or 2017 and I lost it, and I still can’t get over it, I been looking for one off and on for years and all I remember about it was, It had a black blade. It was super heavy, thick, and super sharp. I bought the 0566 to try to replace it, It’s nice but not the same.

ZT 0990 pays homage to this one as you've noted. I'm not sure about the size of the 0909. Thinking about getting one to see if it will work for me. I'm not much for smaller knives. Medium to large are my preferred sizes.

Im not that into "space cadet" or "boy racer" style knives but that is a good looking ZT. Super cool! Doubt id ever own one if over $300-$400 max though. I dig a more classical or traditionally styled knife much more. That said i wish ZT would stray from the swoopy zoopy "S" curved designs and go back to more geometric, simple angled or more straight gripped designs. Or even better, do traditional designs! Just imagine a ZT produced Benchmade crooked river! Huh? Huuuh? Huuuuuuuuh? Yeah, a titanium frame with bolsters, your choice of carbon fiber or exotic wood scales, and a beautifully satin finished clip point blade design running on a super smooth pivot and perhaps locked by ZTs own version of the Axis lock. Yeah id buy that!

I’d agree.. in general, I just don’t find zt knives to be aesthetically pleasing. The only real exception being the 0450. That one ticks pretty much every box for me and is pretty much my ideal EDC blade.

Powder form D2 is what Benchmade uses. It’s tough and much higher quality than chinesium D2s

I didn’t know Benchmade still offered any of the knives in their lineup in D2 steel, CPM or otherwise. The last one I remember seeing was a 940 that they did exclusively for Cabella’s. It had some awesome scales of that stabilized wood from the Crooked River but with w/ carbon fiber faux-bolsters. Looked really dope.. But then I saw D2 on the blade and got a little bummed. Then I saw the price and damn near shit myself (if my memory serves me right it was in 940-1 territory).
