I don't know, seemed maybe a little too tight around the chest. Maybe I need slightly larger size. The vest my wife bought online was the wrong series and colors didnt match. I've had vibram and while it was good for certain substrates, I had a lot of trouble with it for beach fishing and some streams where felts have a much better grip. It's nice to have both and pick which ones to use based on where you are fishing.

so 500.00 is worth it for waders. that won1t leak ever????? are those Felt Boots???
@FishingwithRod
@FishingwithRod 5 жыл бұрын
Calm down, what's with all the question marks? I never said they will never leak. In fact, most likely they will leak at some point. Depending on how you choose to use them, they may leak after one trip, after one year, or after five years. Is it worth spending $500 for a pair of waders? That's for you to decide and justify. My previous pair has been with me for five years and still in excellent conditions. They are comfortable, and I probably use them 100 days per year. That works out to around a buck per trip. I'm pretty satisfied.
@flyman451
@flyman451 5 жыл бұрын
I used cheap waders for forty years and they might last one season. Then I bought a pair of Simms Freestone waders. They were okay but the neoprene bootie was too tight. Simms let me upgrade to the Headwaters for a modest up fee. That was five years ago. I fish 80 - 90 days a year. They have not leaked until this past November when I noticed my fleece pants were wet on my butt after wading well over my waist. I love the waders and don't think I will get them repaired. Just won't wade that deep anymore.
@FishingwithRod
@FishingwithRod 5 жыл бұрын
@@flyman451 Definitely consider repairing them yourself if it is a small leak. It is in fact a really simple job and last year I filmed a video of the Simms rep in our area demonstrating this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qHXTm2mfi9x4f9k The old pair I was showing in the video are Headwaters actually, now that you mentioned it. This would be the fifth season I've had them, pretty awesome for sure!

No Boat stuff for me .All streamside stuff and do what i can to Not run into Thorn type brushed, Normally the Botties fail before anything else. I like The looks of Simms Just hesitant in the price Not all us are Rich like Rod (hahha)...Thanks for the reply
@flyman451
@flyman451 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Rod, I always try to repair my waders. It is kind of a pain in the butt but better to repair than just throw away and buy new. I attach some light metal chain to where the suspenders are attached to the wader. Then I put the chain over the railing on my deck and secure the chain so the waders are actually suspended and not touch the deck. Then I fill the legs with water and wait a few minutes to see where the water starts to drip out. Then I draw a circle around the leak with a ball point pen. I do that for as many pin holes that I find. Then empty the waders and turn them inside out to dry. Then when dry patch the outside and I have adhesive that I can heat and when it starts to melt I cover the outside patch with it and inside. You can see from the explanation it is a nuisance and time consuming.

The average fishermen can not afford Simms gear.... it’s just honestly sad that good people like you and kitty continue to support these big company’s that literally only sell because of the name....I get that they send you guys free stuff but suggest you try to point other anglers to more affordable fishing gear. $400-$800 for some waders that’s ridiculous..
@FishingwithRod
@FishingwithRod 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for that comment, I was expecting someone to make it. While the points are good, I disagree with what you're suggesting. First thing first, nothing is free. The video content you see is supported by several companies who we work closely with. Their support comes in the form of cash, or products. There are contractual exchanges involved. We get what we want so the free videos you guys and gals get to watch are possible, they get the exposure in return. Secondly, whatever you see being promoted, are products which we actually love to use and excited to recommend to our viewers. I personally have been a religious customers of Simms in the past two decades, not because I want to pay for the brand, but I want to use something that works and can actually last. It really depends on how much you want to fish. If you are an "average" fisherman, who fishes several times per year, obviously the G3 Guide waders are not for you. You may want to go with something in the 100 to 200 dollar range like Frogg Toggs which I have talked about in past videos, but keep in mind that you do get what you pay for. Waders in that price range are heavier, not as breathable, easier to fall apart resulting in leaks, and finally harder to find proper fitting. For the jacket, like I said in the video, my previous Simms jacket was bought in 2007, and it has been the best investment I've ever made. Based on the number of fishing trips I've worn it, it has worked out to less than a buck per trip for that jacket. So the take home message isn't asking all of you to rush out and spend $1,400 on a jacket, a pair of waders and wading boots. This video is more about showing you what we are wearing now and we are quite excited about it. There are lots of options on the market, make sure you try them all out and figure out which ones and at what price points suit you the best.

Fishing with Rod Fair enough rod! I’m glad you see where I’m coming from and when I mean average fishermen I’m not saying in context of amount of times going out.I’m just saying in the sense of most people don’t have the money to spend on that quality of gear. Just something to think about. I’m not hating I’ve watched you guys for years (before kitty was even evolved and was just you) and will continue to support you guys. Just had a perspective and wanted to share with you. Thanks for the response.

Zesiy Simms waders start at $229 now...even previously they were $299, which is still good value for what you get. You get what you pay for.
@FishingwithRod
@FishingwithRod 5 жыл бұрын
No worries. Thanks for following all these years. :) I don't think when it comes to purchasing items like these which are not necessities, people don't base it on financial situation but rather priorities. If you head down to the river right now during the winter steelhead season, you'll lose count how many guys have Simms G3 Guide waders on and many of them are young and I doubt have the savings, but they'll spend the money on expensive gear anyway. Same with rods and reels. You can spend 100 bucks or less on a drift fishing rod and catch just as many fish as someone who spend 600 dollars on a custom built one, but the experiences you get out of both are quite different. It comes down to what makes you feel good I guess. :)
