Right on...I still have yet to try any of the new series of Stihl...I'm still maintaining and rebuilding all my 660's as bearings go out, cranks etc. Good to see a go getting girl doing the kind of work we love. From the pine laden Sierra Nevada foothills of northern CA, USA.

Congrats on going independent. Should you want to dress up your saw, Donny Walker has a number of videos on the improvements they make to BC West Coast 500i saws. A number are bolt on. He also sends improved saws to European customers. Sounds like a big new adventure on many fronts. I can only imagine all the hoops you had to jump through to get your company up and running. Well done.

It's so beautiful to see you being happy about your new amazing STIHL 500i! I love the way you're felling trees, you are so much caring about everything, you're so professional and most important, you are loving your job! It's a bit a pity that the tree felling in this clip is interrupted, but I hope you are making and uploading many more amazing felling clips! Can't wait for them... Keep on your excellent work!

I'm told to let it idle 30 seconds before touch throttle so the computer can reset itself from previous auto tune. These saws are great but they do get bogged down and lack the throttle control of carb saw. I'd like to see the NM torque figures published by Stihl not just the KW. Power to weight ratio can't be beat but I'd love to have a 661C for the bigger displacement but couldn't get one at the time and went with the 500i and it does the job well along side my husky 576XP. The air box on the 500i lets the saw down as fine dist leaks through the button asnd into filter and throttle body, theres o rings you can get mentioned in another video on YT

With the 500i, don't be afraid to go as far as a 36" bar, even with full comp (or "full house") full chisel chain. You won't even need to do skip-tooth or semi-skip-tooth. I'm working on a monster red oak right now that takes every inch of the 36 bar and more, and the saw cuts just as well as bigger saws. My 500i is bone stock, no modifications, and it does quite well this way. I can post a video of it bucking this oak if you want. I use either 16", 25", or 36" on that saw, and they all do well on it, even on solid hardwoods like this red oak. My last big tree for it was a pin oak and it had no trouble with that either. Honestly I don't see a need for anything in between a top handle and this saw, and the only saw I would reach for above this is the 880, but I avoid that thing like the plague due to its weight. I only use it when I need a bar bigger than 36" which is very rare. Huskvarna's competing saws are just as good in my opinion, but I don't have them because I have a great Stihl dealer that works well with us.
@happycamper63522 жыл бұрын
@@xtc996 I haven't had any problem with the 36 light making bore cuts, although I've only done a few bore cuts with the 36 light so far. Maybe Stihl addressed that issue by the time we bought ours this past August, because what I see on videos shows saws much more floppy/sloppy than what we have here. You can still see just a bit of play when you shake it hard, but no more so than the other stuff we run. Maybe if the bar weren't a light model or if I went with something longer and not light I might notice it more. So far my only complaint about this saw really isn't a big deal, but I get frustrated that the off button is different than other saws and when you use several models in a day, you keep trying to turn it off by flicking your thumb up instead of pushing the button in. First-world problems I know. If that's the worst I can say, then it's a pretty good saw.
