Nice one as always Sam. Both the preserved examples are on the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway in Cumbria, and when I was wee lad we always used to go on holiday up that way, and I used to go to the railway often. I got to know some of the volunteers and in the end I got to ride on the footplate of one on a train from Lakeside back to Haverthwaite, (about 3 miles). Weird thing was the liveries they were in at the time, (This was late 1970's early 80's) one was in LNWR fully lined black, and the other, the one I rode on, was in full Caladonian blue, not very prototypical, but looked great. I think these days one is in BR lined black and the other in BR lined green - but I've not been to visit for a good few years so it may have changed now. All the best Jon

Lovely looking loco 👍 almost looks real. Great detail on it, especially with the Manchester Newton Heath (26A) shed plate on there too (very accurate for the time). A great loco which formed the basis from the Std 4MT 2-6-4T, with minor changes to appearance and a few mechanical elements. I saw a few BR livery locos knocking about, but I'd say the Hughes "Crab" was the odd one out there.

Another very good review Sam , I used to watch these locos when i used to live in Rickmansworth in the late 1950's when they would take over from the electric locos to haul the London Transport trains over the non electric tracks to Amersham and Aylesbury . The change would be done in less than four minutes which I'm sure I read somewhere was the worlds fastest loco change . David

#2278 was built at Derby Works on July 12th, 1947 for the LMS. She later went under BR ownership in 1948 and was renumbered to 42278. She continued service until April 25th, 1964 when she was withdrawn from service. She was scrapped at Crewe Works on June 30th, 1964 at the age of 16, 1 month shy of her 17th birthday.

Its a great loco just not what i run i do have some lms locos but most of it is GWR BR and LNER aswell as privit locos. I also picked up a wrenn sir nigel gresley for £64 aswell as a triang baltic locomotive. And what you sed about the painted cab it all comes down to what loco it is like a dean goods would need it and a bigger tender loco would not matter as much.

I have a motor issue too: my Liliput (part of the Bachmann group) D13 always was hot when i run it, ever since i brought it as new. I believed it was do it's own train is quite heavy, and i mostly ran with it - and it run well anyway. But last weekend on the 3rd day of a model-show, it got slower and noisier, so i took out the motor and gave direct 9 volts to it , and after 1 minute i drop it because it got so hot (might explains why 2 decoder died in it so far). Hopefully i can order a replacement motor, and a tireless spare wheel for it.

Hello Sam, very nice looking locomotive. The only ones I have 2-6-4 are Wrenn. Have found the Bachmann new logo one at an Australian shop site. You are lucky to have so many model shops , fairs and auctions in the Uk. My nearest model shop is a 8 hr round trip, fuel at $1.30 a litre in a V6 215kw motor makes it a little expensive, that is why I buy most of my new requirements from the Uk. Have a happy easter and keep warm, I'm trying to keep cool. Regards John from Oz.

That's good to hear mate - you can't go wrong with the Wrenn ones anyway! Yes I suppose we are very lucky - though I actually order most of my stuff these days - it's rare that I purchase anything in person (train fairs every couple of months are about the extent of it!) Thanks for watching, Sam :)

I would like to see Locomotion Models produce the Stanier 3 cylinder 4MT and LTSR Class 79 via Hornby next year because since I am considering doing a layout of Southend On Sea and Southend East in the days of the LMS in the 1930s in 00 Gauge and since I am an admirer of former Love Island contestant Megan Barton-Hanson myself I would have the layout built for her to remember me by.

Nice video! Honestly these are just to good! Which do you like better, BR standard or Fairburn Tanks? Love the video!
@SamsTrains6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Paul! I suppose there's not much in it for me - but I probably prefer the fairburns, they look a tad more old fashioned! :D Thanks for watching, Sam :)

Do you prefer Hornby or Bachmann
@SamsTrains6 жыл бұрын
If I had to pick, I'd say Hornby - but both produce good models, and equally both have produced bad ones! Thanks for watching, Sam :)

I'd say Hornby. Because, in my opinion, they make more and better models however both Hornby and Bachman have made their fair share of crummy models
@Isabellima1266 жыл бұрын
i noticed that you have dc locomotives. and you can only run two or more locos at the exact same speed in dc, but you were able to control the difference in speed just like dcc (for example. one is going at 12 kph, and the other is going 56 kph). can you make a video to explane this. I want to do this when i make a model railroad
@SamsTrains6 жыл бұрын
Hi Isabel - yeah in this video I was using DC, but I do have a DCC system, which I plug in and use on my DCC locos! Yeah sure - I should make some DCC videos! :D Thanks for watching, Sam :)
