So, I actually just stuck it into the little slot that's by the hinge on the legs. If the igniter fails, I'll use a lighter, since I always have them in the trailer or the bag I carry my propane hose in and whatnot. Thanks for the question!

Does the lid close fine? I bought Coleman Xcursion and noticed it doesnt latch on
@ThisDadGoesTo114 ай бұрын
It does. There is a small gap, if you're looking at it straight on, but I think that's just to let smoke put when in use. It sits nicely and latches just fine, even when pulling down a path. Perhaps yours has a slight defect in how the lid sits. Good luck!

just bought 2 of these at my local colman outlet, went in to buy new camping gear(tents, sleeping bags, cooler). No intentions of buying these, but the price they had them, i figured buy one for my family and give one to my mother. well after opening mine up and seeing the ease of using it while camping, my mother aint getting hers. i would suggest getting the griddle insert and the connection to hook up the 20lb propane tanks. this is by far the best colman product i have ever purchased. if you see them on sale, buy them. highly recommend

I wholeheartedly agree...mom can get her own! Haha! Yeah, this is a sweet little unit; I'm also pleased mine was on sale. I don't have the griddle, as I have a wicked one for my Camp Chef stove that I use when camping. I just finished converting my grill to propane quick connects to I can use with either a 20lb tank for tailgating or for bypassing my RV regulator when camping. That video will come out in the next week or two. Thanks for watching!

We just bought this and frustrated as the grill grates seem to be higher and won't let the lid close and lock flush. Does yours do this?
@ThisDadGoesTo112 жыл бұрын
Yes, the lid does stay about a half inch above the lower rim when closed. I wonder if that might possibly be because then water could drain out if a person forgot water in that tray when collapsing and traveling. That way, it could pour out, rather than making a larger mess in the grill...but, then, is a person more upset about a mess on the ground? I don't know! I thought it was weird at first, but I've had great success with the lid at least staying nice and locked while pulling the grill, even across light gravel and grass, so I figure it's fine. I did recently get a grill cover for my birthday (thanks, kids!) purchased from Amazon. It just goes over the grill part, not the legs, and it has both an elastic edge and drawstrings. That way, I can have it covered and essentially sealed from the elements, bugs, or whatever. It can also be lowered/raised with the grill on, as it doesn't hamper that feature (as long as you're careful, haha!). Not sure if that helps you at all or not. Thanks for watching!
@Candiezbeautie242 жыл бұрын
@@ThisDadGoesTo11 yes! You know what my husband did he kind of bent the little lock metal piece down a bit and now it locks perfectly lol we Also got the cover from amazon it arrives today. 🤣🤣 Yup, I would recommend that, as it's easier on the back and can be done with one person! That's a great deal! You're going to love it. I would recommend getting a grill cover for it (I like the one I linked in the video description), in order to protect that nice finish on the lid. I did a propane conversion on mine, so I could use larger tanks and quick connects. Alternatively, a person could get a high pressure 20lb to 1lb conversion line, like amzn.to/3XO0lu6. One other item I just purchased, and I'll do a vid on, is a 1lb propane tank filler adapter. That way, you can avoid having to keep purchasing those relatively expensive 1lb tanks. Either using a big one or refilling the small ones, is far more cost-effective. Enjoy your new grill! 😁👍👍

How long would the tiny can of propane last on this? I bought 2 but I'm not sure if that's enough for maybe an hour or two of constant cooking lol
@ThisDadGoesTo112 жыл бұрын
It would last a while...I cooked sausages for a birthday party (in the video, haha), using the right burner for a couple hours. It killed about a third of the bottle, from what I can tell. The 1lb bottles really don't seem to be a sweet long-term option, in my opinion, especially as it seems that their cost has skyrocketed in the last year or so. It seems far more cost-effective to buy a 20lb adapter hose (without a regulator on it, as there is one built in to the grill already) and then use a larger propane tank. I think I might pick up a 10lb tank or something, as it will easily last through a huge bbq event, is cheaper to fill, and isn't too cumbersome to carry around. :)

I just received the Roadtrip 285 for Christmas 23. The leg lock is missing, so I can use a velcro strap to lock it, but I'm wondering if anyone else doesn't have the lock lever for the legs when dragging it around? Is the existing clamp, without the lock enough?
@ThisDadGoesTo11 Жыл бұрын
Man, that's bad luck. I think the velcro strap is the best idea (unless you can take it to the store and swap out for another one). The grill would likely be fine without it, but I'd hate for it to pop loose on you if you're rolling it over some bumps and then something bad happen to it. 😬

I have the same grill, and was able to connect it to the propane quick connectors on my camper, But to do so i had to remove the regulator from the grill since the camper already has a regulator at the tanks. I wouldn't call it a diy project. Honestly would have been easier just to refill the 1lb tanks.
@ThisDadGoesTo112 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I actually took apart the grill yesterday to look into this, and the grill regulator is built in such a way as to make it nearly impossible to remove from the grill. Frustrating. Kudos for being able to remove it! I think I'll just set up an inline gas T between one of my camper tanks and the camper regulator, using a valved quick connect. Video to come! Thanks for the comment.

@@ThisDadGoesTo11 the only way I found to do it was to replace the line that goes to each knob with the regulator on the end with a custom copper pipe with a quick connection on it.. it was not an easy task, between drilling the holes in the exact right spot, bending the tube to fit, then sweating a cap on one end and a quick connect on the other. Honestly probably not the safest modification to make.

@ThisDadGoesTo11 Жыл бұрын
I haven't seen the Weber up close, but they usually make great quality grills. Based on what I see online, the Coleman has an edge (in my opinion) as it has higher BTUs and 3 burners (instead of one, so you can fire up one side and have the other side keeping food warm or for indirect cooking). I think I probably prefer the Coleman for cleaning, as that racetrack tray cleans out amazingly easily. That being said, I bought the Coleman, so I do want to think I made the right choice. 🤣 Good luck with your decision!
@macho.3088 Жыл бұрын
@ThisDadGoesTo11 hey what's up buddy so I went and purchased the the weber traveler . I used it for the first time on memorial day. And I have to say for it to be one burner it cooks and heats up faster than the coleman due to the compact short lid cover. In the park it's was me and another family and we were checking out each other's grill lol and he said wao your sure heats ip faster than mines I said Maybe cuz I just took it out of the box and he said me too we were dying laughing at the end of the day it did the job but the weber Is slightly more bigger for some reason. But the what I love about the coleman is the slide out tables on both sides is better. I think I will also buy the coleman for road trips and keep it as a beater upper.

@ThisDadGoesTo11 Жыл бұрын
Hey, there! I guess that depends on what you're cooking. You can totally leave the cover up, which is how I would likely use it most of the time while using a griddle. If you want to trap some heat to help cook from above via convection, then I'd put it down. I often use my grill while camping, and I'll heat up food that I've packed in foil containers, like chili, gravy, etc. Lid down for that, often with indirect heating on one side. Works like a charm. Thanks for the question! 😁

Okay, I finally looked at this on my own grill! It's a matchstick holder. If the auto igniter ever craps out on you, it's a way to hold a lit wood match using the large hole end of the metal piece (pull it open like when you go to add a key to a key ring, then insert the match, then light it). This holder is attached to the grill via the chain (which will still let the lighter reach the burner) so you can't lose it. Just keep it stored on your grill by leaving it stuck into that hole on the grill leg. That's all it is. I mean, it's probably easier to use a long bbq lighter, rather than a match, but it's just an extra 'feature' of the grill. 😁
