I have the HZL3 I believe and it sews pretty good. Makes a lot of noise but its mechanical.....pretty reliable too.

Not fast? I thought it was. Thanks for the history of Juki which I know is old company from Japan. I'm considering this as it has several decorative stitches but then I might want a bit more stitches (Brother). I can tell this Juki is sturdy & reliable. Wonder if we can buy more accessories. I'm sad you are going to dissect this wonderful machine but then curious what your findings will be.

Perhaps you can tell us the decibels of the machines when winding bobbin and when sewing. This one sounded louder when winding the bobbin but it just might be the microphone position.
