I don’t think they’re that fragile. I keep seeing the same 2 images of broken pvs31s as evidence of their fragility. Only way to know for sure would be Aaron Cowan style drop testing with a unit and do the same with Sentinels etc. No one will do that.

I’m more interested the the height over bore from the dovetail compared to the rnvg or dtnvs. Looks like a few inches in difference. Rnvg looks lower profile.

Why does many NVGs an IR Illuminator? What is the advantage?

It is to increase IR illumination. Most commonly I have found it useful on nights with heavy cloud cover or no moonlight. Also helpful inside of buildings with no light
