Love the Q2, one of my favorite steam locomotives.

You generally have some of the best operational/performance based content of anyone in your class! Don't know if you have looked at the locomotive (only) weight) or done any tractive effort (pull) tests with either of your Q-2's (or even better compared the two)... but I think that would be quite interesting. Please keep up the excellent work, stay safe and have the best possible new year!

I have loaded these up with a 40 car freight train and they still run 80mph scale speed. This was on my other road number several years ago. Due to how rare/valuable these have become Id dare not do that anymore

@@RodimusPrime Thank you for the prompt response! I knew that I had seen someone who had done multiple pull tests equating to starting tractive and also tractive effort at speed testing which with prototypes is the ability to move a train over a given territory without causing traffic delays. It's the latter important measure (that you alone thought to measure, as far as I can tell) that set the steam locomotives apart... that is their horsepower at speed. Diesel 'electric' locomotives (especially, 'AC's) excel at STE but not as much at speed due to CEMF (Counter-electro-motive force). Did you ever get to try a pull meter on the Q-2's and what are the highest tractive effort locomotives that you have ever encountered? Lastly, have you ever tested any brass locomotives? Thanks in advance for your thoughts on this (by the way, I did spend some time pulling larger scale trains with CSX).

Fantastic video. The Q2s where behemoths. I also bought the 1980 westside version for little to nothing. Also has a upgraded motor its just not painted and installed.

Like you, I am in the second BLI Q2. I regret selling my first one. It was the first prototype one with larger deep front skirt. I am glad that you mentioned that BLI won’t make the Q2 anymore. So, which means I get to hold to it. I agree that the worst of engine is the decoder sound and quality. Eventually, I know that it will fail and I will change it to better quality decoder.

Does the P2 version come with traction tire equipped drivers installed? Or come with a spare set of drivers that do? The P4 version does. Thanks. Great videos. Thank you.

For being as old as it is, it actually sounds pretty good to me. The chuff sounds are maybe the worst thing about it, but they're not horrible.

That's a great looking loco and the crawl is superb and smooth. However, I don't understand how manufacturers can go to great lengths with detail and performance and then install bluish leds they look so cold and just wrong. Maybe there wasn't much choice when this was built? Are you going to change them?

Good vid Matt! I do hope BLI releases them again. What was the good price you found it for?
@officialpennsyjoe3 жыл бұрын
He got it for around 550$. I posted a link to eBay on the Broadway Limited Owners Club on Facebook, and seemed to have snatched it up right away after I posted it. There is another Q2 I posted as well that currently has an auction going on.

I didn't realize they didn't have access to the rolling anymore I kind of wondered how that happened. I certainly ish I could buy one of these new or even a use one. BLI can be a bit or miss but this one looks and sounds really amazing. I've wanted one for years now I wonder if I'll ever get one. Also I think the sounds are amazing but then again I still run QSI Quantum sounds from 15 plus year old engines. But I don't care I think they sound wonderful but that's my opinion.
@officialpennsyjoe3 жыл бұрын
Typical realistic price range on eBay is usually between 800-900 now. These are very great runners for their age, and me having two, I say they are one of BLI's best models they have ever produced.
@PennsyPappas3 жыл бұрын
@@officialpennsyjoe The problem is you can't really ever find them on eBay and even the Brass websites don't have any left. I want this as well as the S2 Turbine which I didn't want to pay the money for an engine that may or may not have worked right. I still want both but man is that alot of money for a model considering how small they are especially when compared to a G scale Mallet I bought for 753 a few years ago. But hey everything has its value.
@officialpennsyjoe3 жыл бұрын
@@PennsyPappas It is a bit of a risk, but I believe that most of them have been taken well care of considering that they are BLI's rarest. Train shows are springing up again, so there is a chance to find one of the two for a reasonable price than on eBay. Currently, there are two Q2's on eBay. One is still too high of a price at 12 hundred, and the other is a bid slowly climbing now in the 600s. The S2 you are likely to see between 500-700. Anything more is too much. Until BLI figures out how to make more Q2's, then expect them to slowly climb in value until then.
@PennsyPappas3 жыл бұрын
@@officialpennsyjoe Oh yeah I kind of figured and I do look for them at shows as I've already been/participated in a few already. I remember with S2 Trainworld had them for like 670 so I imagine they'll be more than 700 next time around. I know if I find the Q2 for a reasonable amount I'll get it but for now I'll just fdream of having it.
@officialpennsyjoe3 жыл бұрын
@@PennsyPappas Save up is all I have to say. It is better to get a BLI Q2, than the 2K+ Key, and Challenger import models. Or, a Westside brass Q2 is also a good candidate.
