Great video breakdown of the power meter! Super informative, I had no idea about how temperature could affect readings. Looking forward to your long term review and experience with it, as well as your next ride!

"So that give me the confidence that I won't be left high and dry..." How does this relate to the fact that Stages laid off all employees in April?

Thanks for sharing. Wow, I had no clue about the company troubles until I started reading comments on this video, and looked it up! I picked up this meter in March, just been lagging on putting the video out. Oh well... hope this meter doesn't poop out on me any time soon... ride on :)

I think you’ll be fine for a good long while; my Gen 2 has been super reliable. I just am not counting on being able to get it fixed. Perhaps someone will buy the company and restart operations.

@@DirtyTeethMTB I think (hope) that there is still a possibility that Giant will take over company as Stages were one of the best if not the best crank based power meters.

If you ride clipless, the new Favero Assioma MX pedals for 2-bolt MTB cleats look like the best of all possible worlds. Easy to fit and swap from bike to bike. Reliable, completely weather-sealed and rechargeable. True, the single sided model is a bit more expensive than a Stages Gen 3. But all the other advantages make it look pretty good. If you don't need dual sided (apart from pro riders, who does?), then the MX-1 is worth a look.

Thanks for sharing 🤙 i ve had them on my radar for a bit… for all the reasons you mention :) might just have to pull the trigger and slap them on my mtb soon 🤙 ride on!!

Hi, Love your videos, I also have a Cutty, I was wondering if you noticed any difference in pedaling in that the cranks have different molding (Sram right/FSA left). Sram also makes a left side crank power meter and I was wondering if you researched their power meter when deciding on the FSA. Any info would help and would be appreciated. Thanks so much. james

I can't tell any difference between the FSA crank arm and Sram crank arm. Yes, I researched the Sram / Quarg options (the left arm/spindle and spider offerings) ... my XX cranks are older 24mm, not DUB width and spindle is on the right side, not left, so I'd have to get all new crankset and bb... not just the left arm... with that said, all of the quarg offerings are solid viable options... ride on!

Exactly what I needed to know! Thank you for getting back to me! Very cool :)

Sorry to bother but could you provide a link to the power-meter? It would be greatly appreciated!
Is the a factor the same for the new arm vs old? Wondering if you would feel a difference

Q factor is the same - good question 🤙

Company is out of business, no customer support. I wouldn't buy it, expensive paper weight.

Thanks for watching and commenting :) ride on! Yep, Stages folded… Luckily mine is not a paper weight yet 🤙

Why? Stages is a dead company, gone. Plus, measuring power without the bikepacking/race setup w/ bags or whatnot is not that useful. Measuring your FTP, then riding a fully loaded bike isn't really helpful.
@yetiman725 ай бұрын
My power output capability doesn't change because my bike is heavier. I just have to move more weight than I am used to. Because of that knowing my power output is even more useful.

Thanks for your input @biketrails but I agree with @yetiman72 💯 there’s a reason Lachlan Morton, Ulrich, Justus, and many more used power meters on the Tour Divide… if you know your zones, you can do your best to pace/ride within your limits without blowing up, have a better understanding of fueling/ needs, kJ expenditure, etc- this has nothing to do with the weight of your gear/kit…

Whoa! I just looked it up- and saw they laid off staff, etc- you’re right @biketrails -doesn’t look good!! Thanks for the heads up 🤙 hope this meter doesn’t poop out any time soon!

According to various outlets (e.g. DC Rainmaker), Stages has laid off all employees and is struggling. But they are not dead (yet), maybe someone buys the assets and continues. Either way, neither your nor my powermeter will stop working just because of that, and for that bargain prices IMHO they are worth in. I just don’t expect firmware updates in the near future.

@@martin_emrich thanks for the info :) - curious how this will all play out for Stages... I'll keep on using this meter til it dies, regardless - ride on!
