Lisa, there is another version (an older version) of the Lo Scarabeo Visconti Tarots with completely different Devil and Tower cards that you might prefer. The older version also has a different back design that is much more subdued. I have both versions, and like you, felt that the Devil and Tower cards didn't really fit with the rest of the deck. I found out about the earlier version, hunted down a copy, and prefer it over the current one. The card stock on the older version seems to be thicker. I say this because the cards feel a bit more stiff, and also because the impressions of the gold stamping can not be seen on the backs of the cards. I have two copies of the newer version (like yours) and on both copies the impressions made by the gold stamping on the fronts can be seen on the backs when you hold the cards at an angle in the light. Some are easier to see than others depending on how much gold stamping is on the front. This isn't the case with the older version, so maybe the thicker card stock prevented that from happening? By the way, the artwork for the replacement cards in both versions was done by the same artist, Atanas Atanassov.

I'd love to see what it looks like afterward. Do you think you might put up a video of it? What are you using to edge it? I've only ever used a sharpie and I can't say I was pleased with the result. I might have laid it on too thick. After I shuffle I look like I've been reading the newspaper!

Very interesting they put mottoes on the cups cards. The French motto reminded me of the Queen of England's motto acting as sovereign outside of Scotland: 'Dieu et mon droit', "God, and my right [to rule]", presumably influence from the Norman line--both mottoes seem echoing back to the underpinning view of monarchy as pulling legitimacy from God.

Are you really playing games with these cards? It's so hard to find people in KZbin who are using tarocchi for its real purpose, and the games which they are made for are simply amazing.
