Hello Nepenthes peeps,
I wanted to make a vid on what to expect when you receive a Nepenthes plant from Redleaf Exotics and how to get them settled into their new home! Always inspect for damage first. The growth point is most important, so make sure its in tact. Brown or broken pitchers is completely normal. After inspection, be sure to give your plants a drink if they are potted. Larger specimens will need to be potted up and then watered in. Remember, Nepenthes dislike regular garden soils and do well in sphagnum and perlite, or just sphagnum. Always make sure to handle the roots gently. Higher humidity and lower light is appreciated during the acclimation process. It can take a couple weeks to months for some plants to fully settle. Be patient and check out more of our videos to help get you growing these awesome plants!

I just got my first Nepenthes, a N. Rafflesiana Red (I love the leafs color) and it came with dried leafs, it made me sad. But checking your videos and this one makes me hopeful that with lots of care and love my little one will grow very healthy and beautiful. Thanks for your videos and such great help for beginners! 🙏🏻🪴

Hey excellent video thanks Dom. Looks like my baby neps are growing well. If you get a chance could you please do a video on inspecting the leaves? Like, I "think" my baby nep is growing well, but some leaves are faded/yellowish on one plant while the other is shiny and glossy. No idea if one's healthier since they're side by side :-)

Heya! It depends on the size of the plant and species, but it can take a couple months to fully recover from a broken growth point. If it’s just half of the new leaf, the next leaf should be fine. Any pic? Thanks:)

I live less than 1 mile from the beach in 92672…. I have one which I have owned for a few years and have reported it once into a 15” hanging caged bracket with moss, bark, perlite, and coconut husk. It’s doing quit well with new leaf growth and a few small jugs. However many of the jugs turn brown prior to even forming. Is this due to lack of water? Txs much. Chris

What's your best care tips for N. Palawanensis and N. Attenboroughii? :) I have humidity levels averaging from 85 to 100% at my location.
@redleafexotics4722
@redleafexotics4722 4 жыл бұрын
Hello:) I find that palawanensis is an easy intermediate and pretty quick compared to N. atten. Day temps 75-80F. If you’re growing outdoors with cool nights 55/60F that sounds perfect. Some indoor growers do awesome around 70% with both. For us, 75/80% seems to be great. Highlander’s usually don’t want too much water on their leaves. Thanks, Dom

I got a baby maxima (wavy) from another seller, and I've been nervous about it. I have a pretty large alata x ventrata (?) which I have had for a few years and it's thrived. Watching you has eased my nerves on taking care of the baby so thank you! I gave it a mix of coir, sphagnum and perlite and watered with distilled. Hoping for the best now. The thing that really has me thrown off is the leaves which seem to be fuzzy and red. Probably just the difference in species.

Man, do yall just mix in the hydrated sphagnum with the peat moss and pearlite mix? I've been thinking of doing that myself for a general purpose mix for my nepenthes. It looks like it would look a lot nicer than just sphagnum alone or peat/pearlite alone.
@redleafexotics4722

This mix is hydrated sphagnum with coconut coir and perlite. We also use sphagnum and perlite. We don’t use peat moss on our larger plants. Only when we sow seed:) Thanks! Dom

Why would you give it lower light the first days? What could happen with too much light? As a house plant behind a window it already receives little light anyway.
@redleafexotics4722
@redleafexotics4722 4 жыл бұрын
Hi! Many home growers do have less light, but south facing windows do exist and could fry them. It also varies depending on what part of the country you’re in. We do not give our plants full sun, but bright filtered light. Placing them in stronger light than we are growing in could burn or stunt them. Most plants suffer stress even if it’s just a little when moving from one environment to another. They know something is up, especially when it takes 3+ days. When a plant Is stressed, it rather deal with it in less light than too much. Any new plants we get are kept in less light before we introduce them to stronger levels. Thanks💚

@redleafexotics4722
@redleafexotics4722 4 жыл бұрын
Hello:) If you’re gentle the plant should be fine. You can certainly switch to another Nepenthes-friendly mix. They just dislike to grow in garden soil. Sphagnum moss and many mediums suited for orchids are ok ti use. Nepenthes are actually very tough, but the roots are brittle and large chunks can break off if the potting medium falls of the root ball. Smaller plants are easier with transplanting. Soaking the roots in water will help loosen the old soil from the roots. Overall, your plant should be fine with potting to another medium. :) Thanks, Dom
