The Palm Phone is an unusual device. It’s a tiny smartphone (companion) aimed a digital detoxers. The idea is that you’ll opt to leave your big smartphone at home when on vacation, night out etc. The Palm Phone runs Android with a custom skin tuned for the tiny display. I've used one for about 2 years now. I started it as a companion device and made it my main phone about a year ago. It's a really fun phone to have, and it's a SERIOUS conversation piece. The cons are that the battery life is extremely limited (as it should, being a rather minimalist phone made to keep you less distracted) and that it looks like there's no longer any support for it. If you have smart devices at home or use any current apps, the Google store will tell you the device is not compatible with the phone. Happened to me with my robot vacuum app. It originally worked, and about a year later after an update, no longer works. That's just one of a few apps that don't work with it. The software is also starting to bog down on it very fast, and it's becoming very slow. Hate to see it happen, but I'll be keeping it as a backup phone again in case the "normal" phone I replace it with ever has an issue.

@@kaya-sem when I last used it back in January, Snapchat and WhatsApp still worked. MOST apps still worked on it. Only one I had an issue with was my Shark Robot Vacuum app that said it was incompatible with my phone. Using Messenger/WhatsApp didn't kill the battery too much unless it was constantly on, and Snapchat (or, really, any use of the camera) will drain it the fastest. That said, you can be on a call for quite a long time. Using the Life Mode is recommended, and is very useful.

Palm thinks that people still consider their phone as a premium product and will shell over 300 bucks for a phone which has a limited use. Another example of a company trying to sell products through emotional marketing and totally detached from reality. How about sell the same phone for $99 and they won't be able to keep it on the shelves. heck I will just buy it to keep it as a back up phone. There is a better solution, a flip phone. Tons of battery life and no disturbance. How about adjusting the notifications? Only set the notifications which are very important and less frequent. I have stopped looking at my phone constantly. I have literally zero games on my phone, no facebook messenger, and only check phone when I have email or text message. Restraint is easy, you dont have to buy a second phone to force yourself.

In terms of durability, the Palm phone that I bought 15 or more years ago was the best phone I've ever owned. I probably dropped it hundreds of times over the course of 5 years with no damage except some barely-visible scuffs. I didn't even have a case for it. It was also the most comfortable to hold in my hand compared to any smartphone or old school flip phone, and it had a physical keyboard! I still kind of miss those.

This new culture of small phones really makes me upset. I'm a fan of small phones and my main phone is 4", but damn, why can't companies make normal small phones like Sony did with their Xperia Compact, or Samsung with the S3 Mini, Apple with the SE for instance? I love the palm and I'm leaving this with the palm itself it's more useful than a smart watch and is great for when your main phone is charging... Also great for low profile situations such as meetings dinners funerals church etc... I give the palm a solid 8-9/10

I can say one thing where it's a near-perfect solution: jogging. You still want to be connected and don't miss some important calls, or when you are just doing groceries which takes like 1-2 hours and during this time you are not using your phone. So, yeah, it's a good thing to have.
