Navi was so important to Link but to us as players she was annoying. We didn't care when she left at the end of OoT but Link did. The only friend he didn't lose or have to leave behind was Navi, and she just left after they succeeded in killing Ganondorf. He went looking for her only to hurt himself even more in Termina. I think he always knew that Navi was dead, but he still continued to look because he couldn't accept her death. I wish I could just give the hero of time a big ol' hug, he deserves the world after what he's been through.

I like to think that his journey in Termina helped him accept his friend's death. Majora's Mask is all about healing, and I wouldn't be surprised if his experience in Termina helped him heal as well. @OsnosisBones4 жыл бұрын
Sadly, Navi being their first attempt at a companion character really shows in OoT, as she's probably the only companion in Zelda that doesn't have a very well realized place in the overall narrative and doesn't get much dialogue beyond reminding you your point in the game. Even Tatl from Majora is more fleshed out than her, and the games were developed only years apart. Then again, Link in OoT was the same way, as they're very stiff and unresponsive for the most part in Ocarina, yet pretty much every title after save for GBA titles gave him a lot of animation, responsiveness and expression that makes him feel more like his own character rather than purely an avatar to be piloted (the 'link' to the player Miyamoto originally envisioned him to only amount to).
@dayshallcomeagain4 жыл бұрын
@Nakumare very true. Neither Link or Navi had very much character in Ocarina of Time save for a few rare moments. In fact, the whole thing seemed just very forced because the only reason behind doing what they were doing was simply because someone told them to. There was no motivation, no story behind it. It was simply, "hey people, go save Hyrule" with the only explanation being"because you were destined to" which is a VERY weak reason. It wasn't until Majora's Mask was Link and even Navi, who doesn't even show up in the game, given the character development they desperately needed.
@OsnosisBones4 жыл бұрын
@@dayshallcomeagain It very clearly was their first time sending the Zelda series into a 3D space where character through movement was just taking off. I also feel Miyamoto at the time still overly made Link a blank slate with very minimal in story motivation so players could project onto him, which is probably why after the writing and animation being handled by other directors for Zelda games resulted in even Link having a more established character and personality, with only his silence remaining as a means for players to invent their own idea what he's thinking being a holdover of the 'link to the player' idea.

@@wesnohathas1993 Not to mention he has a fully developed childhood and backstory. Like how he spent his childhood among the zoras and was part of a group of kids that acted in tandem back then, or how he used to be mischievous and act out but changed after he was found to be the chosen one due to his fear of shaming himself. Hell, skyward sword was probably the most story centric Zelda and had other characters have very developed perceptions of link as a person and even that one only gave a basic childhood to link.

No one is talking about how Link may or may not have noticed that Shiek is able to carry the Master Sword. Any doubt they may or may not have had with "him" must have immediately been allayed at that point. From past installments, they always questioned Shiek's motivations because he would always leave. I love Navi's character development here. But then it also rips my heart out because she vanishes. I refuse to believe she died. And like I said, showing that Shiek is indeed able to touch the sword was a nice touch.

Cause sheik is Zelda and Zelda in lore created the sword when she was still hylia, I been saying this the whole fucking time for years! Zelda been through so much, blaming herself for Link's position, the fall of her home and her people, her father killed by Ganondorf everything yet link chose to do it cause in his mind it was the right thing to do and in the end I think Zelda saw that and wanted to give back to him so she sent him back to his childhood. It is no ones fault but demise's he placed the curse on the two he is responsible for thousands of years of strife and war, in truth Ganondorf is just an innocent victim in all this a victim who willingly chose his path of evil and twinrova just guided him towards that path, Same with Navi I like her now and admittedly she deserved better than the constant hate she got from us fans. We never saw her side of things we never knew how she felt during their journey and this focuses on that showing Navi being doubtful believing she is helpless when in truth she was the one who saved link not the other way
@victoriaann47624 жыл бұрын
Daniel Cook It’s interesting that you pose Ganondorf as choosing his path of evil. 🤔 In a karmic sense, there has to be darkness in order to balance out the light. If there were no villain like Ganondorf, then there would be no Hero of Time like Link. Link wouldn’t know what darkness is, or what being a hero is, so Ganondorf is, in a way, helping him. It’s the role they play.

I'd like to take this moment to provide an analysis of the narrative that Majorlink so, masterfully, created in this video. So the sequence of events begin where Young Link is, first, going to meet with Princess Zelda. He sees the figure that the Great Deku Tree described and is now stepping forward to talk with her, unaware that a shadow is watching him. Impa. I can't help but notice that the camera, from her perspective is directed towards Zelda and not the ARMED intruder that is heading to her. Surely, since she is a descendant from the Shiekah which were created to protect the bloodline of the goddess Hylia, that she knows this is the embodiment of the Spirit of the Hero so she knows that he is no threat. But, I like to over-analyze. I wonder if she is thinking about how long she will be able to protect Zelda. It is never indicated how old she is. Her hair is white, and until Breath of the Wild we did not know that is apparently just a general trait of the Shiekah tribe but let's forget that for a moment. What if Impa is no longer in her prime and worries for the Princess's safety after she is gone? Skipping ahead 7 years.. Kakariko Village is ignited in flames and Link along with Navi, has burst onto the scene. They are flabbergasted and don't know what happened. Their eyes are then cast to the well where they see a figure that they recognize. Shiek. She is standing at the well, forlornly gazing into the well. Now, PAUSE. Why is a roof on fire if the spirit hasn't escaped from the well yet? This isn't explained in the game, either. I give you a theory. Now, as I stated above about Impa worrying for Zelda's safety. Since she had no children of her own, allegedly, who could carry on her mantle. She saw no other recourse then to teach Zelda as she would her next protector. She has now grown to be her own protector; i.e. she is Impa's apprentice. Taught the Shiekah artes. What if the spirit had already escaped and Shiek, using Impa's techniques, managed to banish it back into the well? Whilst concentrating at the well, she is questioning why the Shiekah saw fit to create this abomination, from the---and this is a popular theory---man who could see the truth. Why did they not just kill him? Whatever they did to him must've been some sort of supernatural punishment. Unfortunately, Link's approach disrupts Shiek's concentration on the seal. Perhaps the sealing arte wasn't completed? Whilst her back was turned, the spirit emerged and attacked. NOTICE how the hand compresses Shiek against wall much longer then it does, Link. Why? I feel that it is making sure that she is unconscious so that it won't be sealed, again. It, then attacks, Link in the same fashion and makes its escape. It, arrogantly, underestimated the Hero as a non-threat. At this time---and I love the character development that Navi received here---Navi rushes to Shiek and Link and seeing if they're alright. They don't respond. Now, all this time, the fairy has served as a intelligent guide to the Hero. She looks around the scene to locate the threat, and through her Fairy eyes, spots the spirit. Since she is, essentially, a spirit herself; she does not need the Lens of Truth to locate it. Perhaps this angers the spirit? It wouldn't want a being to exist that can see it. So, it rushes to kill Navi. Since the beginning, we have all hated Navi trying to get our attention but this scene really hurts to see. Try as she might, she is trying to tell Shiek and Link where the spirit is. She is trying to guide them. But it is in vain. They are unconscious and she can do nothing to save them. There's no way a Fairy spirit like her can fight against a demonic being, so she panics and looks wide-eyed into the looming figure coming for her life. She flashes back to the Great Deku Tree, or perhaps it is a vision. He was a Forest Deity, after all. Why could he not exist after Death? He tells her that she cannot boulster the Hero's destiny on her own shoulders. You are his eyes, but he is your sword. She is brought out of her reverie by Link, coming to and defending her. Now, it is not shown but perhaps he got a shot in with the Master Sword? Perhaps THAT is why the spirit retreated to the temple? It was injured? It is possible that Impa was busy evacuating the town's inhabitants whilst this was taking place. But then, that brings into question why SHE didn't seal the spirit while Shiek handled the more menial task but I digress. The Spirit has retreated to the Shadow Temple and Impa has gone there to defeat Bongo Bongo. Shiek must know, due to her age and the fact that Zelda was trained to defend herself, that Impa has no chance to defeat such a powerful spirit. After all, Zelda has the third of the Triforce, as does Link even though he does not yet know it.. Bongo Bongo was still able to overpower both of them. After ensuring that Link was aware of how lucky he was to have such a great companion, as Navi, she begs him to save her friend. Impa will die without help. Shiek/Zelda can't do this. She is too important to risk her life, and I'm fairly certain that Impa told her that she must survive, no matter what happens to her (Impa). A touching scene then plays. Link comforts Navi and wordlessly ensures that they are a team. She is NOT useless. She is his eyes and his guide. Navi takes solace in that and vows that she will not be a burden and will be strong. The teleportation song is taught. Shiek and Link/Navi part ways. Wonderful music. The score was amazing. Major Link and Brock Hewitt, you are both AMAZING and I can't wait for the future projects to come.

Georgeous work, as always. I actually really liked the use of Bongo Bongo's hand instead of a formless spirit -- kind of gives an inkling of what's waiting for them. I also liked the addition of that little wobble as Sheik gets up; nice attention to detail! I love these little connection scenes between Link and Sheik. Stringing them together with the extra bits you've added, you can really see how they bonded and became friends; after all, prior to their interactions as Link and Sheik, Zelda and Link hardly knew each other. And the additional dialogue for Navi is lovely too; too often we think of her as a nuisance, forgetting that prior to his adventures, she was almost Link's only friend, and the only one who saw all of his hardships. Brock Hewitt's music is spot on in every shot...really adds impact to the animation. Beautiful work! I always look forward to your uploads -- they add so much to the story!

I love all the emotion you can see in everyone's face. These scenes are so great because, knowing everything we do, they have so much more meaning. And what a nice moment of determination from Navi! She had to go through so much too.

Loved this!! You and Ndy could make a sick Mario Zelda crossover. You two are the best animators I've seen on KZbin.

I am from Germany and I don't understand every word, so sometimes I understand not the whole story, but you make it seem so real and beautiful, that I understand the story without words. Thank you for every animation. You're doing your job really good. Please keep on working. Best wishes from Germany to you. Stay safe.

MajorLink, your animations bring nothing but joy to my heart. I won't write my sob story here, but video games got me through my childhood. Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask were the first games that introduced me to the Zelda Series; they were the first games I ever completed 100% growing up. Seeing you bring life to the story through your talent and creativity puts a smile on my face and a tear to my eye. Thank you for your work. Also, to Brock Hewitt, thank you for your wonderful sound design to bring out the emotions in MajorLink's animations. You are very gifted.

Can I just say I love the games.. but these small videos give an entirely different sense of life to me. It's like the lessons the games taught me as a child have been brought to light in a new day and age of understanding. You guys do so well with these, please continue making these lovely videos ❤️ I would love to see so much more

Another brilliantly done animation! The best part was showing how Navi truly wanted to move forward and Link showing her his support. They were a team through their journey and it shows here how much they cared for one another

Aaahh I've been waiting for you to put out a new video! This is fantastic! You are getting better and better at how you animate..it's so fluid..the finger animations are looking really good too, nevermind the fact that I love the subtly in your expressions. Thank you for bringing us this added depth to such a beloved Link (time's story)!

I don't know how you do it, ML. The little moments of humanity shown briefly or exaggerated. The complete lack of audible dialogue with the complimentary music. I always get stricken by your animations, a rapid chill down my spine or around my neck or maybe some real emotions that correlate with current reality. I love your stuff, it's an experience!

Wow, that was really impressive and awesome! What a way to bring this moment from Ocarina of time back in such a beautiful yet emotional and meaningful way! Well done! Loved the little moments with Navi there, too! ^^

Be it the end of days, high water or the sky falling, you (like the hero you animate or his bond with his loved ones) remain unbreakable and continue to move through time to create your own legend.

I absolutely love every video you’ve done, and by far my most favorite are the ones like this where you give so much more depth not only to Link, but to Sheik as well. You’ve truly turned something so dear to everyone’s hearts into something even more touching and beautiful. Thank you so much for providing these breathtaking cinematic pieces that give new light for the sincere love we all hold for this special world. ❤️

Amazing as always, this was well worth the wait! Can't wait for the next one! I like that you're adding more to Navi's character in these. If it was like this in the original game I don't think people would've hated them as much if at all.

MajorLink I love watching your videos because it makes me feel so much emotion. I started playing the legend of Zelda when I was about 4 years old, I am now 23. my first Zelda game was ocarina of time and it will always be my favorite. when I was growing up my parents would fight, so while that was going on I would be in my room crying humming Zelda's lullaby. Your videos help bring out emotions that are deep in me and some of them I just cry to. Your videos also make me see more and more as why I feel like I am link. So THANK YOU for making them and I hope to see even more into the Zelda world.
