Once i'd got half way through your video and removed the Left Hand side pannel I spotted a plug at the top of the circuit board labeled PZ LED that had become disconnected, I reconnected it and now my printer which was referring me to HP service seems to be working fine again. You've saved another piece of computer technology that was completely useless due to a trivial fault from landfill and saved me about $300 for a new printer. Thanks very much for providing this video, it was really helpful to me.

Great video. Did you ever fix the print head malfunction?

To access the printed circuit board and drive belt you only need to remove the left hand side cover held by 3 T10 screws and forcibly prise the cover off. I found the drive belt for the paper feed behind the PCB to be a problem in two similar printers causing a Paper Jam fault.

My 10-yr-old HP8610 printer is toast. It started with a message to replace an ink cartridge. Did that. Then messages that there were issues. So I watched a video and reset the printer (a few times). Replaced ink cartridges (a few times). Anyway so now the print head is stuck on the right side and I just want to retrieve the ink cartridges and try to get some money back on those since I am going to toss the printer. Already bought a monochrome black ink simple small printer because that's all I need now.

I have an OfficeJet Pro 8610 showing the Ink System Failure, the web interface shows the Black Cartridge "Ink Sensor Failure", I've disassembled the print head and made sure all the springs are making contact, however there's some black spots on one of the black cartridge's pad that one of the springs makes contact with, could this be the problem? I cleaned it best I could but there's still some black on the pad. I thought about putting a small layer of solder on that gold pad, but would this make the problem worse? I also cleaned all the springs in denatured alcohol. I really don't think its a problem with the cartridge as it shows fine (ink levels, status etc) when initially inserted until you go to print, and that error seems to trigger the Ink System error. I'm puzzled, I've made sure the ribbon cable is inserted well and re-assembled the print head 3 times now.. about to chock this thing in the garbage. :( Oh I also downgraded the firmware, which did not help so I upgraded back to the latest version available... error still persists. Seems to me it's something simple and this print head could be refurbished but I'm having no luck. If I run the factory reset sometimes I can get it to print an entire alignment page, and seems great and ready to go... until you send the first print job or try to print a report from the printer after that, error pops right back up.

Same here. I even replaced the mainboard, which temporarily fixed the problem for the PF motor malfunction. Then other errors come up. The ink sensor is inside the printhead, which HP heats up a wire to calculate resistance. It can be faulty from time to time.

I get "Remove the rear access panel or automatic two-sided printing accessory from the back of the printer, and then clear any paper." I noticed there's a drive gear that spins freely on its shaft that would drive the two-sided printing accessory. I've cleared paper but really couldn't find any, wiped it down, checked and rechecked every paper access. The main drive from the printer to the two-sided printing accessory....I don't think it should free spin and might be my problem for this error. ??? Anyone have any experience with this? Possible fixes?

I too went into the engineering by tapping on some spot few times in a row. don't remember the exact thing i did to the engineering menu to try and reset it. but form doing that like someone else it went back to the same erreor message only this time stops you from going any where else in the screen icons at least BEFORE I would get the can't detect any print head like its missing but couls still get around in the icon list. And worst of all the prinnt head doesn't move over to the left when door is open u, so it says you have tpo work on then head but wown't let you because it won't slide over > I wasted some money on this I guess don't know if i'll ev wer figure out how to manually move over the head.

Thanks for the vid. You could have been more thorough on some parts, though. Where you just skipped over them "it's easy" when it actually wasn't that easy. I got an 8620 which is covered in guano. Literally. I put the case into the dishwasher. Let's see if it survives.

So long story. It’s been so long I’ll try to remember the sequence of events. I was getting the message that one or more cartilage were damaged. So I took out the print head cartilage and cleaned it very well. I reinstalled it and the same message came up, so I purchased original HP ink at $75 for the three colors. Installed. Nothing. Same error. Ok, did so more research Firmware? I don’t think so because I have original ink in so I skip that part. I find a video that when you tap 4-5 times on the bottom left hand side of the screen it allows you to reset the printer. So I try this and it starts to work, what language, what country are you in and before it goes to the time the error pops back up. “One or more cartridges appear to be damaged”. Ok I’m thinking, let me pop them out. Wait, the cartridge is NOT sliding over to the left. Now what?!?!

Exactly the same issue for me. I then removed and reinstalled the CMOS battery to do a hard reset but after that was done the cartridge damaged screen still comes up and cartridge still doesn’t slide left to allow removal of the cartridges. Did you find a solution?
