This one is my favorite in the series, with 2 very close behind. Nate wandering through the desert while Marlowe narrates poetry from T.S. Eliot. It felt so different from the rest of the games to that point. No one was trying to kill you. There was no intricate set design where the building or structure you were on was exploding/collapsing/on fire. Just Nate, alone. No quips, no jokes. Just stewing in how he’d failed after everyone warned him this would happen.

I believe Talbot was supposed to be a Djinn, that would explain how he disappears around that corner and after getting shot, comes back completely fine, some may think i'm reading to much into it, but the characters in the game are confused by both of these, and the game doesn't answer how Talbot does these things, why would the game put emphasise on these if the explanations are something like "oh he's fine after getting shot, he's just wearing a bulletproof vest" because that's really weak, I think they just didn't have enough time in development to reveal the Djinn twist and make a boss fight around that, so they dropped it.

The multiplayer in uncharted 3 hooked me to the point of playing it 5 years after everyone left out and went to other games. It wasn’t perfect by a LONGSHOT, but there was so many ways to play the game that it made it up for it. The maps weren’t annoying and compact enough to always find people and keep the action going. I would’ve loved it if they added the multiplayer back in the drake collection.

I'm surprised you didn't mention the retcon of Nate's ring. I remember when I first played through this game on PS3, and they went into how he got the ring and what it meant to him, my first thoughts were, "Then no way he would have just wanted to chuck it in Uncharted 1!"

I actually hadn't thought of that. Is especially hard to believe after seeing the origins of why the brothers went by Drake in Uncharted 4.

But Nathan replies to that with “they’ve seen this kind of obsession before”, Nate also adds to that with “we have nothing to prove”. Uncharted 3, at the end when saving Marlowe, has Nate finally giving up his title as best treasure hunter, he has nothing to prove but he does have people to lose, so when Marlowe begs him to save her, he tries without the want for his ring back too. @@jamesgray3797 Yes it was. What you're describing with his changed attitude happens at the end of Uncharted 3. In Uncharted 1 we're lead to believe it was an inheritance, and just a means to get a treasure that ended up not being there, which is why he left the ring behind. In the flashback we play in Uncharted 3, we are shown he took the ring because he believed it was his birth right, and that the ring had a lot of value to him outside of being a means to a treasure. That's a huge retcon right there. Also with the ring having that much value to him, he wouldn't have just decided to leave it behind in Uncharted 1 like he did.

Uncharted 3 has better shooting than Uncharted 2? Now that’s a hot take! I don’t think there’s anything that it does better which is why it is such an easy target as black sheep of the franchise. Upon release the shooting was somewhat broken, to the point where ND invited players from a popular message board to come in and show them what was wrong. A patch was then released but it never felt quite right. The trilogy collection went a longer way to adjust this but IMO there’s still something a little weird about it. Could be the relationship to AI & enemy hit boxes & animation. Story wise, UC2 is also much better paced. The action set pieces in 3, as you point out, felt very tacked on. I loved that clip you showed of the developers confirming that it was indeed the story itself which was tacked on. I think all games are incredibly hard to make, UC3 is no different, it just shows signs of that difficulty in the end more than one would hope. It feels (artfully) scotch taped together.

Uncharted 3 kinda let me down after 2. I’m playing the series through for the first time and everything good about two got used in 3, but either got overused or worse. The set pieces were amazing, but the platforming was clunky and moving in and out of cover felt sticky. The combat was improved with more cqc animations. But the gunplay was less impactful because enemies don’t respond to being shot until the third or fourth shot. Drakes Fortune had better gun play tbh. My favorite part of the game is seeing how NDI evolved as far as storytelling moments are concerned. Everything between Drake and Sully was awesome. But everything else in the story fell flat because the other characters were so uninteresting. There’s tons of storytelling and mechanical issues in 3 for me. I 100%ed it and looking forward to going back to 100% 2. I understand waiting until 3 came out when you were in to the series in the beginning changes your perspective. Because I’m late to the party and playing them all back to back. I did get to play 1 a little when I was younger, but I was always an Xbox kid. I never got to play a bunch of PS titles until my cousin came to live with me and introduced me to the PS2 & 3. My opinion doesn’t matter as much as players that were there from the beginning.

I had a bad first impression with this game back in 2015. For whatever reason it had frequent stuttering issues the entire game on my PS3. I did everything I could to try to fix it but nothing worked (Downgrading the game, sending my PS3 back to Sony, streaming it through PSNOW, trying different copies both new and used). It literally drove me insane trying to fix it. When it was all said and done I did manage to fix it by replacing the slow 5200rpm HDD in my PS3 with a 7200rpm HDD. But it honestly left a pretty sour taste in my mouth dealing with all that crap. The game itself I liked but I don't think it quite matches up with Uncharted 2. The story in this game felt weaker, and there were a little too many walking and talking moments that took away control from the player. An issue that sadly got substantially worse in the next game in the series.

Shit, it might be better than SOME people remember lol but U3 is my favorite one. It's basically Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, but in video game form. I haven't watched the video yet but examples include escaping the burning chateau, the horse chase at the end, the middle eastern setting, and hell even the fake-out that Sully/Indy's father was going to die at the end. That, and how unique the desert was - it put Nate up against a "foe" that he couldn't reason with, couldn't quip at, couldn't shoot at, just him versus mother nature after free falling out of a freaking plane with absolutely nothing in his arsenal except the will to live. The part with the sinking boat was kind of like that also. Of course, this game does require the most suspension of disbelief out of all of them, because realistically the dude fell out of a plane and wandered the desert for at least two days before engaging in a firefight and not dying of exhaustion or catching even one stray bullet, but hey that's why we love the Uncharted games anyway. Oh, and the multiplayer was also so goddamn cool. Used to play it for hours when I was in college. That, and the multiplayer for Assassin's Creed Brotherhood. Good times, boys.

I didn’t care for the Scotland castle section it felt so odd and Chloe returning just for that part it was more of a cameo appearance. I did like Cutter they need to bring him back. The desert stuff is where the game shines majority of the game is in the desert and it’s a nice change for the series.

I didn't play the games when they were first released, but I never thought that Uncharted 2 was somehow special compared to 1 and 3.

Well 2 is special because it's not as infuriating as 1 and not as sad and boring as 3

U2 and U3 had one of my favorite online experiences ever. As great as the stories were, the online team death matches became my favorite part of the game where I sunk hundreds of hours into. Although U4 online was decent, it didn’t capture the magic of the others for me.

I just always assumed Talbot was like ex Mi6 or something like that. I don’t think they mentioned anything like that but that could have lended to his like… ability and to make him a bit more intimidating like oh damn we’re facing off against a real agent type dude and not just ya know. A seemingly regular guy.

The debate as to whether Uncharted 2 or 3 is better, is just as tough as "Raiders of the Lost Ark" vs "The Last Crusade"

I remember skipping school the day it came out to play it, only to feel the same as you in the beginning of this video... maybe I'll give it a try again after this now. I'm curious.

I remember hating the difficulty. I just remember being behind cover and not understanding why j was getting hit. Then realised a bad guy has circled around me and was just standing out in the open shooting me from behind. Wtf?

Uncharted 3 has BY FAR the best music of the series.

To me Uncharted 3 is the commonly neglected child of an overall amazing franchise. Most third installments usually are. Can't wait for you to talk about Uncharted 4 though J.

Talbit was definitely supposed to be a Jinn or something along those lines But clearly they scrapped it with his different abilities It’s a shame It would have been so cool to see somthing like that fleshed out

The game's title in your thumbnail reads: "Uncharted 3: Drake's On" hehe 😅 Not sure whether that was intentional or not, but still. It's pretty funny, regardless.

I'll be honest I laughed so hard when you compared the final boss to a playable version of the qte knife fight from re4 when you released this vid a month after the remake where that fight is actually playable.
@JsReviews Жыл бұрын
Yeah, this video was made before the Remake came out, fun fact.
