I loved the moment when Nate is fascinated looking at the dinner table with the pirates corpses, and the camera focuses at Elena's face, the way she's looking at Nate, at that moment I thought: 'She finally "accepted" who Nate is, like "Ok, I can't change him, he's this adventurous treasure hunter guy, and he'll always be like this". Other great thing is that Libertalia feels like a place with a story, where things actually happened ages ago, the temples and lost cities in the previous games felt more like just a videogame level, with places to jump, shoot, etc, for me at least, it's hard to imagine people living in Ubar, or Shambhala, while in Libertalia, I couldn't stop imagining how the colony was with all the pirates and families living there. (Btw, sorry for possible english mistakes, I'm not fluent at it)

+Marcio Zago Great point. The encounter also felt bittersweet to me because there's this part of Nate that's really tied up in the past and Elena wants him to see his life with her in the present as incredible. This dilemma is also hinted at with Nate's mom's legacy and Sam's heedless pursuit of it. In the end though you get that reconciliation of the past and present in how we see Crash twice (timeless and passed on through the generations), in how Nate and Elena make their love of and fascination with the past a part of their everyday lives, and in how Uncharted is now over and in the past but it continues to live on in Naughty Dog's future projects, kind of like Cassie taking after her parents but still having her own identity. Time is a huge theme in the game and I loved how some of the journal scraps reinforced this.

Colin is DEAD wrong about Sully's character in U4, if there was a game that actually underhanded Sully's character significantly it would be Uncharted 2 where Sully is really just a short cameo and only appears at the very end, in U4 Sully actually feels like he has a place in the story and arguably has just as much screen time as he did in U3.

One thing that bothered me (although OBVIOUSLY Naughty Dog wanted to have Nate journey alone in the last couple of chapters), Nate's been using a grapple rope for the WHOLE game. He jumps over the wall and Sully and Elena suddenly sigh with the despair they they're unable to reach Nate and go with him. Absolutely got the nod to Crash Bandicoot feeling like the truck chase scene towards the end whilst hopping over the fences! They both resonated so well with eachother.

I felt Sully had his moment in the previous games while this was more a tale of how the Drake's came to be. I pretty much have zero issues with the game. I thought the storytelling was excellent and wasn't upset by the lack of supernatural twists or anything. The ending was just fantastic and I was never too much of an Uncharted fan. I liked the franchise but this elevated my love for it to new heights. I think I almost teared up when the Crash Bandicoot easter egg popped up. P.S props to tim for defending Nadine. Colin, I would argue the primary purpose of Nadine as a character is to provide more dimensions for Rafe as a villain. Without Nadine, Rafe has no one to interact with or play off of. Just like Sam shows a different side of Nate, it is important to have a Nadine character in order to give context to Rafe and make him a significantly more compelling villain...

+Brendan Leahy Very smart and interesting take on that, and I completely agree. It gives more context, and I think she's also important in the plot in the end scene when she points out how everyone obsessed with the treasure is consumed by greed and ends up dead, giving a little more context to Nate's realisatoin that enough is enough.

I think the ending was perfect because it's not one of the two obvious paths. Drake DIDN'T return to everyday life and Drake DIDN'T keep on his dangerous adventure. Because Elena realized she also loved adventure and Drake realized Elena and his family are more important than anything treasure-related, even if that treasure has value to his brother. So you finish with both of them figuring out a way to live with the best of both sides. It's a damn good ending that I didn't expect. I think it's better than any death twist or stuff like that because it's moved by the characters and not the plot, and Uncharted has always been about these characters. And like you guys pointed out, it closes Nate's story and leaves the door open for a future Uncharted game with Cassie Drake. Anyway. Fantastic game, Chapter 10 with them on the car telling jokes and story while exploring Madagascar and killing bandits might be my favorite of any Uncharted game. Hell, this might be my favorite of any Uncharted game.

I disagree about the lack of supernatural artifact or enemy at the end being awesome. I understand that no magic in this particular story is better but as long time Uncharted fan, it was disappointing that the final major story was lacking an element that was so crucial to ALL 3 previous games.

+Nineteen1900Hundred Nah fam. The game was better for it. The supernatural stuff started feeling old and predictable after the third game. This one felt more personal and a much more emotional game and the supernatural stuff would've ruined it for me.
@Chewiejds8 жыл бұрын
+Nineteen1900Hundred The way I see it, I wish that instead of the ending having a supernatural twist seals it all together, I wish there was more of an implied supernatural element thrown in the middle of the game, and maybe in other places. All these dead pirate bodies. Maybe pirate ghosts? I think it could have been really cool if it was done well, and it was there, but you never actually see a ghost. Maybe if it scared them, and made them want to get the hell out, but nothing more than that. Ghosts definitely exist in the Uncharted universe, given that other supernatural things do, so it would have been totally doable. I was kinda expecting it given all the skeletons, so I was surprised it didn't happen to be honest.
@awwnuts078 жыл бұрын
Colin, I'm surprised you thought any of the characters would die. Uncharted = Indiana Jones; the heroes always make it out alive. Instead, the mystery is HOW they make it out. Frankly, considering how many death defying events they go through (not just set pieces, but all the cliff jumping and climbing), I'd find it ridiculous if one of the protagonists was killed for the sake of drama. It would be so incongruous with the overall tone of Uncharted as a series. Lastly, BRASH CANDIPOOT!
@hitdoctor248 жыл бұрын
+awwnuts07 Completely agree that it wouldn't fit the tone of the Uncharted series, but I think the reason some people expected someone to die is because Naughty Dog kept saying this was the most emotional Uncharted (which it is, but it never comes close to The Last of Us, which is good because this is supposed to be a fun, lighthearted series) so a lot of people were expecting a major character death.

Honestly my only real complaint IS that Chloe and Cutter are missing. Chloe was a main character for two games and other than an optional letter I don't think she was ever mentioned. It's just weird. Also idk why but I freaking love Cutter. He's my favorite UC character so when he just never showed up at all? A little bummed out. The game was fantastic but I just was hoping that Chloe and Cutter would show up for like one scene.
@parashar153848 жыл бұрын
+TbestiaC Agreed. But I did like the neat little things they put related to Chloe and Cutter. Nathan received a letter from Chloe which you can view in Chapter 4 but Nathan says "maybe in next life, Chloe" which was sad. Also Nathan recommending Cutter for the job with Sam. Also, Sully's role was so underwhelming. Anyways, brilliant game.

The best thing, like these guys say, is how the background plot about the pirates was actually riveting this time. I loved the feeling of delving further into the twisted story behind Henry Avery and how it thematically works with the plot Nathan is going through. I felt in every other game the backstory was just Amy spouting exposition from research she had made about some historic facts, and I never listened in the expository scenes because I didn't really care. In this game I felt like I haven't done since I played Trace Memory for DS in which you also explore the past of a setting as you're driving the character-driven plot forward. I was actually invested in who the founders of Libertalia was and that was amazing. I hope Neil and Bruce creates a completely new IP again with all these kinds of ideas. They could create a fantastic mystery plot if they wanted.

Just finished it, great game. One major complaint though. Where was the awesome uncharted theme ? I was all pumped to hear it play in the background of the main menu, like it does in the other games and nothing.
@cyberjunq8 жыл бұрын
They play different renditions of it throughout the game, but not the classic form of the theme we've become familiar with. You can hear a slower, softer version of it in the epilogue once you reach the beach.

Nadine served both the plot and the story. She was the reason Rafe had the goons in the first place and was also there to dish out the themes of the game on the villains side like Tim said. She was fed up with the adventuring and wanted to get out of it while she still could.
@cusman8 жыл бұрын
Plus all the banter between soldiers was centered around Nadine. It took many losses over the adventure for her soldiers to get to point where they would turn on her. If you play stealth, you get to hear it happen over the course of adventure where initially they would dare not cross her. I think her character also overtime goes from lets get treasure to, this isn't worth it.

The coolest part about not using a supernatural element was the scene with Drake and Elena in the catacombs. Complete darkness, you're struggling with a dead flash light and it's just ND toying with you because that would be the PERFECT time to introduce some crazy zombie/ghost, but they don't. Great call by ND, but even better that they mess with you to think its coming.
@morganclarke92848 жыл бұрын
I liked Nadine. She represented Nate. Think about: Sam = Rafe Nate = Nadine Rafe and Sam will do anything for this treasure. ANYTHING. They both used their allies (Nate and Nadine) to do their dirty work. Rafe hired Nadine for her army and Sam took Nate her brought Sully and Elena along for the ride. When Nadine leaves Rafe at the end because he's nuts. That represents Nates willingness just a little bit earlier to just leave Sam and get outta there while he had the upper hand. It's very symbolic this game, it's amazing. Through this whole thing Nadine was trying to convince Rafe that this escapade wasn't worth it. The same thing Nate reminds Sam.

+MikeG82 she wasn't useless. Also he was hesitant to hit a girl, but after she proved her worth (which btw she's been trained since she was a child) Nate didn't mind fighting her. In a gun fight? Nate could kick her ass without question, but in a fist fight? Nate isn't a martial artist. He's a just an ordinary guy. It hurts when he throws a punch. That's why Nadine could kick his ass.
@jOmegaK8 жыл бұрын
+Morgan Clarke She literally did nothing to advance the plot for the entire game. She appeared out of nowhere at stupid times (perhaps she's a vampire), throws a few punches, says a few things, and then walks off scene without having made any sort of impact. Even at the end, she loses control of her army, and plays absolutely no role in the story. Her biggest contribution to the game, was closing a door, something that could have happened on it's own as a result of the burning ship around them. She was the epitome of a pointless character.

+jOmegaK Token black character. Hate to sound racist or be the guy to point it out, but it's pretty common to tack on characters like that in movies to avoid having to explain why everyones white.
@CBMgoonerComps8 жыл бұрын
+MikeG822 Let's be realistic here, men are generally stronger than women for many reasons but Nadine has been trained and not just to decent standard but well enough to lead an army. I know some strong guys but if they came up against a woman trained this well would probably get their ass kicked. Also that ronda rousey comparison was stupid, a trained male fighter against a trained woman probably means the man will win. A trained woman against a guy with no training and the woman has a good chance of winning. You wanna find this out first hand then you fight ronda and see how it goes.
@CBMgoonerComps8 жыл бұрын
MikeG82 Well I reckon most professional womens fighters would be that trained but do you honestly think there aren't women out there who could be this trained? I mean there are 3.52 billion women on earth you don't think there is some girl out there who could beat the shit out of you?

I just completed the game last week, and I absolutely LOVED it! I just wish that they had included a picture of Chloe and Cutter in the epilogue. I would have loved if there was a letter from them saying that they would be dropping by as well or some pictures of them with Nate and Elena on some of their adventures...

Great spoilercast for a great game. I think Tim nailed the purpose of Nadine in the story and why she was needed in the plot. They needed to really hammer home how crazy the obsession was. It's one thing to show Sully, Elena, and Nate willing to walk away from the big treasure--they ultimately value the lives of the people they love more than money--but to show that even someone who literally trades in human death for money as a chosen profession was unwilling to go any further and would rather just take a few million and leave, really cements the gravity of the situation and the moment. As Tim said, Nadine was in this story so she could walk away at that moment. Plus, Nadine was just a badass character. That helps too. I think the caper at the auction where they had to steal the second will probably be the most underrated part of the game. It harkened back to the failed heist from the beginning of Uncharted 2, and served a lot of the same purpose as that scene did, (both as a plot setup and as a gameplay instructional) but was way better. I love a good caper scene. Nadine rocked that fight too.
@danehowells8 жыл бұрын
+PristineTX yeah Tim did nail that point, and I like your point about her trading in human death - as for Colin saying she was only in the game for 15 minutes, well rafe wasn't exactly in it for much longer

I love that nobody died - it's sort of a Naughty Dog thing at this point, but in a cool way. I mean look at The Last of Us. SPOILERS The whole game you're thinking "Someone's gonna die, someone's gonna die." But they don't do it - Joel and Ellie survive and, in a way, live happily ever after. They're safe and sound back at Tommy's town. But there is so much THERE that makes it more gut-wrenching than the standard "Major character dies in this emotional, weepy scene." It's smart and unexpected, and I think they've continued that with this. How about it? Uncharted really is a fun game after all!
@maxromagnolo8 жыл бұрын
+Daniel King To be honest, The Last of Us achieved a sad, draining ending without using someone's death. With the way that they ended it, I don't feel that either Joel or Ellie needed to die. It was just as emotionally draining knowing that Joel had done those things and LIED TO ELLIE. However, similarly to Uncharted 4, i think it was to show that you would do anything for family, which is what Joel did for Ellie. I could honestly keep talking for ages, but i don't even think people will bother to read this whole paragraph xD

During the epilogue there were pictures of Mayan stuff (I think) and the daughter made a comment about them being gone because of "interdimensional" stuff (not sure what she said) BUT the pictures reference a Mayan "gate" and she made a comment about it, and ancient aliens tells us that there are theories about interdimensional/time gates, which would tie in The Last of Us nicely
