Yup. The default shotgun is very good. When I started playing tf2 more than ten years ago (jesus christ, it has been a while) I remember thinking that the default shotgun felt like a peashooter that wasn't meant to be used, (plus my aim was garbage) but at some point I played a match as fat scout and kicked ass with, and that was when my eyes were opened. The shotgun is actually very good. As an engineer, you can defend yourself very well with the shotgun, even push with it. As a soldier when you run out of ammo on the rocket launcher, the shotgun will finish the job. As a pyro, the shotgun counters other pyros who don't have it. As the heavy, I still prefer the sandvich. I just didn't use it for a long time because of some early bad experiences with it.

@@greenthepokemontrainer3358 no, you should tweak it yourself over time
@Cloud_berry083 жыл бұрын
1. The way you aim is best for you, instead of trying to find the "perfect aim". You should instead figure out what problems you make when aiming, and then practice not doing it. Even if it takes a long time, you're aim will eventually improve in the end. If you consistently hit enemies and deal high damage, then that probably means your aim is perfect for you. 2. Remember not to think of yourself as some sort of extension to your buildings, but instead think of your building as an extension of you. The Sentry Gun is an extension to your damage output, even if it can deal tons of damage at any time, to any enemy, it doesn't mean you can't either. Same thing applies to your other buildings, even though the Dispenser and Teleporter can help your team in ways you normally can't, doesn't mean you can't help in other ways. You can move, your buildings can't, when a teammate is in a fight, you can move over and help, your buildings can't.

Honestly I always overlook stock weapons, due to the other weapons being more appealing for certain situations, using ranger for defensive and frontier for offensive (I don't have the panic attack and I can't aim well enough for widow). Because who needs normal shotgun when you have one that fixes buildings for less ammo or one that gets crits from kills? Of course I use other stock weapons because all the other weopon's downsides outweigh the stocks, such as most other flamethrowers having an airblast cost or most other wrenches not being as helpful for sentries. I'd just like to say, thank you for opening my eyes to the stock shotgun

The TF2 specific tip for aiming with a shotgun I've found helpful is to just play Scout for a few full games at least; you HAVE to be real close and aim real solidly to be effective but you have the speed and mobility Engie lacks, so you have basically a little handicap for learning. So when you do decide to play the most fun role in TF2, the Battle Engie, you can take that exact same aiming style but add on the strategy you have to employ to make up for your loss in speed. Additionally, playing Scout a lot makes you understand how a Scout moves and thinks, so it gives you a bit of inside knowledge on how to fight a Scout when they inevitably rush you down.

Scout, in my opinion, is the best class to play to improve your aim. It's arguably one of, if not *the*, hardest class to aim with by default due to the fast play style. However, it does pay off on other classes once you get good at it.

I always run the shot gun on soldier. The shotgun lets you hit sweet one two combos, and doesn’t damage you at close range As therussianbadger once said “there is a range where rockets should *not* be used”
@citcoin-official26813 жыл бұрын
A good engineer with their sentry is like a Scout-Heavy Combo* where the Scout can heal the heavy and the heavy never misses but the scout is slow and the heavy can't move. *(with the level 3's rockets acting like a soldier occasionally backing them up) Pair that with the other buildings, The Life-saving dispenser and the game-winning teleporter, and it makes a Good Engineer almost like having an extra two players on the team. The average pub 'Engineer' however.... that's more like having half a Player.

It’s like a sword and a shield. Yeah, you can use each individually, and one is most definitely more effective at causing harm, but together they become far more than they are individually. The sentry is a constant threat that draws fire and defends a location, and the shotgun is a surprisingly strong, short range hit-scan perfect for finishing off softened targets. Used alone, each is effective, but together they shine brightest.

Our uncle's "flick to the floor between shots" is what I like to call The Bifocals. By pulling your crosshair "down" it doesn't "get in the way" of what you're looking at (whether that's a rational impulse or not, it's instinct). This forces you to take a brief moment to reassess where your target is going, what's going on around you, etc.

It isn’t just you Dane. It’s a commonly known phenomenon across all sports that thinking about the actions you’re doing will inhibit them. Your brain’s conscious and sub-conscious is very similar to a computer’s RAM and ROM. Sub-conscious memory has more capacity while conscious memory is small but is necessary to use that memory. Muscle memory for aiming gets stored in the sub-conscious and only things like the immediate position of the enemy is processed in the conscious memory, while if you’re thinking about aiming you’re trying to dump years worth of muscle memory and immediate game state/enemy position into active conscious memory which slows it down.

the segment about aiming is completely accurate. I once failed to kill someone because I subconsciously flicked so well into the guy's head that I didn't take the shot. I had no idea how I pulled it off So I just switch my brain off and forget about how I aim

I've been trying to make more of a point of getting good with certain stock weapons like the stock grenade launcher and the shotgun is definitely a part of that. I think it always helps to master a stock weapon (that's not melee) so you don't always have to rely on sidegrades.

While I agree with Uncle Dane's view on just playing to improve your aim, this method will take longer than actually taking the time to create an aim improvement routine. Whether that involves 3rd party aim trainers or community aim train maps is up to you. The reason both Uncle Dane and LazyPurple say they play better when they feel more relaxed and don't think about their aim is because they are relying on their already present skill and honed aim mechanics. As a new or struggling player aim training is a must imo.
@Skeptical-rf8ou3 жыл бұрын
I think he's parroting what b4nny said about the aim trainer thing, I do not understand why else he would think he knows something on the subject of aim. Doing some sort of low pressure aim training is incredibly helpful for me currently. As an anecdote, I notice that currently, if I relax too much, I slip into my bad habits a lot. When trying to improve your aim, thinking about it and being very deliberate with your practice is incredibly important (like any other skill). Improving your aim is often about breaking bad habits and replacing them with new ones, and autopiloting doesn't really accomplish this.

Am I the only one that gets more kills as a shotgun engineer rather than a scout? I feel like enemies know what a good scout can do, with the ability to dodge and do high damage, but quite a few people underestimate the power of an engineer, so when they meet one without a sentry, they think that engineer is as vulnerable as a medic. Also, about the medic part, a good medic can bite back quite harder, especially with the 100% random crit chance ubersaw.
