I love those cars, I had a 68 Javelin SST 343 4 speed, when I was 18 I rebuilt the engine. Put in a Crane fireball cam in when the plastic timing chain broke. Whacked the side of the rocker nuts with hammer so I could adjust the lifers like a chevy. Mine had a Carter carburetor on it, originally.

Hey - I have a '69 AMX! 390, 4-speed, go-package w/3.54 "twin grip," as AMC called it. Beale St. blue with white go-pack stripes. I'm a longtime AMC fan; we had several of those when I was growing up. Listen - the 360 was no slouch. It was a good engine.

My 69 AMX had the 390 which came with a Carter AFB. It never ran quite right with the AFB, so I swapped it with a new Carter Super Quad, and it ran MUCH better. I remember racing a 71 Chevelle SS396 on Gratiot, I got a 1/2 car length jump on him, but he stayed right next to me, neither of us gaining ground on the other.

That is really a NICE looking car! AMCs sure had their own character, and were neat cars... maybe unusual with styling, but that's part of what makes them unique. I like 3:40 or so - there's enough room between the grill and radiator to stuff a dead body in there.

For the young folks learning about auto history : AMC... American Motors Corporation... was formed to keep the Big Three... FoMoCo/MoPar/GM.. from becoming a Monopoly. As part of the deal The Big Three had to supply parts to AMC. This is the reason AMC had such eclectic mix of parts in their production. Best to you and yours.

I've always loved those 68-70 AMX's, even the little 343's i think it was, screamed with a little bit of messaging, especially in such a light car. I remember a customer who had a 68 coming into the gas station i worked at in the mid 80s. It was a lime green 343 4 speed car,with a tad bit of proper hot rodding to the engine and suspension, the guy was the original owner and you could tell from our chats he really loved that car. I believe he was another of more than a few ex soldiers i knew back then that successfully completed their tours in the 'Nam,and returned to buy their dream car they'd seen in magazines and or sales ads while over there. Our high school shop teacher also did the same thing upon his safe return with his black and silver 71 Mach 1. Salute to our fellow service personnel!!!! Sweet ride,can't wait to see the next episode! Thanks again guys! ▪☆☆☆▪

The '70 models with the "shadow mask" paint scheme used a 1/4 inch silver striping tape between the body color and the semi-flat shadow mask. Easy enough to add if this one doesn't have it. The length difference is the front end, not the body or trunk area.

Just for the record, the 70 AMX is not running a Chrysler trans, it is running the Borg Warner, the same that some Mustangs used and were called FMX transmissions. AMC started using Chrysler automatic transmissions somewhere in late 71 I believe. 904s behind AMC 6 cylinders and the 304. 727 behind 360s and 401s.

@al_dente4777 Жыл бұрын
They also had GM's Saginaw steering gears and Ford power steering pumps. The AMXs were truly AMC's Holy Grails. Too bad that inferior brakes and suspension were borrowed from other AMCs. Mounting the front suspension's strut rods behind the lower control arms was weird, though

Very cool Tony. I have a 1969 AMC AMX XCODE 390 AT AIR PS PB GO PACK HUNTER GREEN CAR. The guy that had mine before me put on a 1970 front clip on mine after his wife was in a fender bender 20 years ago. I love the hood and grill of 70 and it keeps the car cooler in florida weather. I'm also painting hood, top of fenders and around door white matte. GO PACK white stripes on roof , trunk lid and spoiler. Also white outlined rocker panel emblem. Should be painted this week. That is a beautiful car. I hope you buddy drives that work of art. I had to put a new 750 double pumper edbrok on mine, worked perfect right out of the box. Neal

Uncle Tony, I owned a '69 AMX back in the day (late 1970s), and literally ran into what was probably the only other 2-seter AMX in my neck of the woods, a 1970 model. Turns out that the owner of that car ("Jersey Joe" Belfiore) and I knew the same people, as he asked if my name was Ed Riveiro, which of course, blew me away. We've been friends ever since then. Here's a write up of his latest build: www.msn.com/en-us/autos/enthusiasts/this-unique-amx-scca-veteran-is-ready-to-rumble/ar-BB1bzaWo Here's one you'll appreciate; Joe once bought an old NJ Bell Dodge van, pulled the Slant Six and 904 out of it, and shoe-horned an early, closed chamber head 440 and 727 combo out of a '67 Plymouth wagon in it. And shoe-horned was the right term for that thing. He had to shave the driver's side corner of the van's doghouse to clear the left side exhaust manifold, which was so close to the accelerator pedal, that he burned the side of his sneaker on it while on a long drive.

I have an 88' Cherokee that was Jan 02 1988. There's no Chrysler stickers on it but it had the Jeep division name it was sold under at the time, just a sticker on the firewall. A lot of the documentation and markings was still AMC. I guess they just had to stick the wheels on just behind yours lol. Probably explains the factory Goodyear Vectors that were on it lol.

The Gremlin X with 304 and T-10 4 speed was surprisingly quick, and fun, including fold flat front seats! Also same bolt pattern and offset so you could bolt on 15” Ford and Mopar wheels, Ford GT500 and Mopar Rally wheels looked great in place of the 13” or 14” originals. The best and last Dodge Diplomat and Plymouth Fury RWD police package cars built were built after Chrysler went totally FWD and had to contract the RWD to the formerly AMC Kenosha plant. The most well built mid 80s RWD Mopars were built by AMC at the original Rambler plant! It’s a damn shame Kenosha is no more! Many of my first wife’s family worked there.
