Looking at VIN tags and data plates is one thing, but Chrysler engineered several unique features into each of it's Hemi B bodies.
Here's a rundown of what they are and why Ma Mopar stuck 'em there.

I can do that for you. Here you go, how to ID an old Mopar police car: It's got a cop motor, a 440 cubic-inch plant. It's got cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas.

Ok Tony some commits The So number found on the fender tag is also stamped on 2 locations on the body. These must be reviewed to insure if the fender tag goes with the body. Most do not know the 2 locations. Fuel line is the same on 67 GTX's with a 440 or a Hemi. Both are 3/8 lines. I also thought that Hemi car also came with the torque boxes welded from the front frame rails starting at the firewall pinch weld out to the rockers. Again they were on Hemi cars and the Converts.

Had a 73 Plymouth Satellite and a 73 Dodge Challenger They were nice both had that magic when you drove and with Bilstein's, and the biggest anti sway bars just magnificent to drive just the way they make you feel. But that body style and the ride quality of that one will be 2nd to none when finished. Torsion bars made them feel so how would one say hmmmm 3800lbs Satellite Sebring Plus ... Twinkletoes was her name. Back then their were so many still on the road so after mom and dad bought the Satellite from me for my brother to go to school so the door opened for the 1 owner Challenger. 2000 bucks later b5 blue over sun rotted white interior which was changed to black as a challenger was sitting on the street so i stripped the interior. Any how 15,000 dollars later it was done and very solid, added a leaf on the right and re arced on and on and on. Just remember everybody if ya spend a ton of cash on a "regular" mopar I.E. 318 2bbl it won't be special except to you and you will never see any money if you sell. Shit i could write a book and call it Musical Cars. Sorry to ramble but this car has me goin

It helps that the long block was done by a machine shop. However, I'd still pull it out and check the clutch, flywheel bolts. At this point it takes about nothing to pull the motor and it will be much easier to put back together rather than leaning over the fenders.

Something else different on Hemi cars, there are two extra plates welded on to reinforce the area where the front spring hanger bolts on, one in front and one behind, the rear one is hard to see once the spring mount is attached. Something else, I thought the Hemi cars did have the same rocker reinforcements as the convertibles, but I’ve never been able to prove it for myself.

Great video! One thing I have to comment on is your statement that these cars have a "higher survival rate". That may be true of the bodies but certainly not true of the engines. Not only were they built and raced hard but, back in the gas crunch 70s, many owners were selling them for pennies on the dollar. That's where the Top Fuel guys would swoop in and buy the whole car... just for the engine! They weren't doing that with 427 Chevies or 428 Cobra jets. Today a numbers matching HEMI car is the rarest of the rare. I feel extremely blessed to still have mine (RS23J......)

Question for Tony (and others) This concerns a car I came across some years back and remains a mystery I was a tool dealer, and came across this one at a shop. The owner was a deaf mute and communicated by teletype machine so it was to get info. He'd bought the car used. 1970 or 71 Dart. Brought it in for a break job. Shop had done it before and was familiar with it. Front pads had to be custom ordered! Had manual brakes and 4 piston Aluminum calipers. Also had the large diff but had the smaller Chrysler bolt pattern. Appeared to have metal deformed in the B pillar area. It had a 318 2 bbl, 727 auto in it. With AC, and it looked 100% factory install. All the AC lines, hoses, controls, etc.. The small master cyl, and large diff drew my attention. I ran the VIN (as best I could) and engine code came up 426. I was never able to question the owner. I always wondered if it had left the factory with the hemi and got swapped out later.. or maybe it was halfway built, and factory put the 318 in instead..All the AC stuff looked perfect.

When I was in high school a good friend of mine had a 68 Charger that had a 318 in it. I worked on all of my friends cars because I went to Vo Tech for Auto mechanics. He bought it that way, I remember it had the Hemi ID tag on the fender well under the hood. We didn't think that much of it at the time. We just assumed the original motor blew up. In 1975 they weren't worth that much. I don't remember any Hemi insignia on the exterior trim of the car but that does not it wasn't their.

Happy HEMI day, everyone! My family had a wonderful morning; we got up and sang carols, then the kids found all kinds of presents under the HEMI in the living room. Leroy got a new Torque Wrench, Jethro got a General Lee model with a realistic pitted chrome rearview side mirrors and a rusted trunk floor pan, and Little Otis got a Johnny Walker sippy cup. We'll leave the Hemi up for a few weeks, then pack it away for next year.

I own one Mopar product (Fiat Mopar, but still a Mopar) and 3 fords. I love my 300S. Mine is equipped with the 345 (5.7L) Hemi, which i know is not a true Hemi like the original design, but I still love it. I still wish they would have made the 6.4L in the 300 or made a Hellcat 300, but I digress it is still a great modern Mopar to me. Owned it 3 years and constantly have the dealer bombarding me to trade it in on every service visit (oil Changes and mile recommended services). No matter how many times I say, I love it I do not want to part with it, they keep asking (it only has 10000 miles on it and is clean... really clean). 5.7L 300s are more rare than they used to be. Chrysler has opted to put more 3.6L engines in the 300, 300S and 300C than Hemi packages. So since it is a low manufactured vehicle with a V8 I kind of like having something nobody else has and that is what led me to UTG. Friends said, you love your 300, you should check out and subscribe to UTG's channel and I have and DO NOT regret it one bit. I would love for UT to check my 300 out someday, sure it is not impressive by older Hemi standards but it would be nice to get his opinion on the car just the same, even if it he hates, it would be nice to ask his pros and cons.

If you're going up Plainfield Pike in Rhode Island, half way between the Johnston Line and Carmel Corn County, there's this junk yard called Hall's Garage in Scituate. It's been there for ever. It was one of those old-school joints. Pop's sitting in the garage with a couple German shepherds. I'd ask him for something for My Nova or my "Sedan De Vile" or what ever pickup I was beating to death at the time. He'd point and say yeah there's a couple back over there. You shoved a few tool in your pockets and head out. (In your big-boy work boots). It was like walking thru a bombed out Vegas car show. One day I had go talk to his kid, can't remember why. The kid was my age (1951 +/-) and had a 6+ bay garage full of late 60's to early 70's MOPARs out back. There were a couple 'Cudas, a rag top Charger, can't remember what all else. I was too distracted by the Hallelujah Chorus thundering in my head as the door opened. Think about what you could build if dad owned a junk yard, it was there. Breaks my heart that era's gone. Remind me to tell you about "Juniors" down in South County. You needed to ice up a 6 of tall Buds the night before and show up there first thing in the morning when he was real thirsty.

back in about 1980 I bought some `69 charger body parts (2 doors, 2 fenders, hood, truck lid, tail lights, bumpers) from a guy for $100.00. I only needed the right fender because mine was crunched- common on chargers because people underestimated how far that corner stuck out. He had a 1966 hemi belvedere that I probably coulda got for $4,000. The engine was cool but in my eyes the car was ugly compared to my charger so I passed. Of course 4 grand was a lot of money back then especially for a kid

Mopar Performance / Direct Connection used to sell the Hemi pinion snubber support as a separate piece you could buy. Only the manual transmission cars got the two half leaf springs on one side and that included 4 speed 440 cars. 1969 383 manual transmission cars got one half leaf spring on each side, one year only. Hemi's burn up spark plugs much quicker than 440's.

Very true! Keeping valves adjusted was a real chore! Rocker arms didn't last long on the street. Plugs fouled on a daily basis!

I wish I owned an older Mopar muscle car, but I have my Chrysler 200 convertible, which is nice. On this Hemi day I was thinking of something funny. Back on February 20 of this year it was Happy Pentastar Day. That's because the Pentastar V6 is 220 Cu In.

Fun little trivia: The 1970 Sport Fury GT 440-6bbl cars came with regular 5/16th fuel lines.

The one thing I knew about was the fuel line. Back in the 80's the Mustang resto shop I was working at did some business with some Mopar guys as well. One scored himself a rough and rusty 67 Hemi Charger body from a junk yard. As a matter of habit, I'd do a quick run through of the new stuff that had arrived in that junk yard every Friday morning on my way past, heading to work. The car had been there forever. I remember it being there sitting in the dirt for at least 2 years. But I'm a Ford guy, so it never caught my attention. Apparently it was dragged in pretty much stripped to the shell already. It had been passed over by probably hundreds of people before he recognized what it was - because he noticed the 3/8 fuel line as he walked past the nearly empty engine compartment.....

I haven't heard you mention that the Plymouth plate on the trunk is from a Satellite, not from a GTX. Perhaps the trunk was damaged and replaced, which would also explain the lack of the Hemi badge on the left side and the Satellite plate.

Great stuff. When are you getting a lift installed in the shop?

You're making a mistake not tearing the bottom of that motor apart before going forward. Just because a "machine shop in Texas" worked on it, doesn't mean everything is fine. No better time to verify the lower end than now. Good luck.

Interesting that converters would think of things with no practical use like number tags and not think of things that do have a real purpose like torque boxes. It makes more sense to do the torque box but no tag than do the tag but no torque box.
