It’s so nice to hear a plant person on KZbin gush over “everyday” plants that are “common” or “boring.” It seems like so many people on KZbin and IG are so elitist about their plants. Not everyone can afford to spend $250 on a rooted cutting!
@LynnAgain834 жыл бұрын
THANK YOU! Or they ironically promote the same plants or similar to what's on their expensive website or are giving rave reviews for multiple online stores that also charge triple for a common plants. It's a tough time for so many nowadays I just can't and won't ever buy any tiny 4" plant let alone a cutting for $100 and up. Absolutely NO hate to those that are fortunate enough to do so I just feel some KZbinrs,influencers etc have made plants become a sort of status symbol and all about $$$$ and fake reviews to get free stuff.

I hear you, I don’t ~love~ what’s going in the plant community right now. I’ve been admittedly avoiding spotlighting these overrated, overpriced plants to try not to contribute. I love all plants for what they are and it’s a total shame to see the way the plant market is at the moment. I consider myself lucky to have started collecting 6 years ago - I 100% wouldn’t be able to have the collection I’ve accumulated if it wasn’t for that with the way things are
@0carinaofthyme4 жыл бұрын
I like to hope the trends will go away soon and folks will just buy plants they enjoy. I have some harder to find plants and one of my favs is actually my thanksgiving cactus! No point to buy an expensive or hard to care for plant that you don’t feel happy about when you see it. No thanks to plants that bring me stress. 🤷🏼♀️
@nichelle60584 жыл бұрын
@Maddie YES! Exactly. I get so annoyed at the many plantTubers and FB groups who turn their noses up at ivy, peace lilies, and pothos like they are somehow beneath having such 'commoners' in their presence. 🙄 I realize there is such a thing as personal preference however time and time again I witness many a gorgeous plant being overlooked and passed over because it’s not an albo this or varigated half-moon that. I think it’s ludicrous that people pay $$$$ to acquire these 'rare' cuttings with like 2-3 leaves only to fry them crispy under grow lights! 🤦🏻♀️ lol I just don’t get it.
@NoBootyBeauty3 жыл бұрын
$250 on a rooted cutting, girl that's cheap! Some on ebay aren't even rooted!!!!!! 😂 AND you can get a whole plant from regular online store for less 😤

I love that Nick never puts plants down for being commonly available or less showy. He’s really helped me appreciate little traits of veination, textures and growth habits. Congrats on taking the plunge and best of luck in this new phase of your journey Nick!

That's one of the reasons Nick is my favorite plant person on yt. I've tried more well known plant channels but they seem to promote the same plants they're selling for triple the price they're actually worth Another one is always promoting and getting free plants from many different online plant shops it just seems a bit disingenuous. NO hate,to each their own but I just won't spend over $20 on a plant I only own common houseplants but I love them and that's all that matters

I run subtitles because there is often a lot of background noise in my busy home. I am used to the odd spellings and humorous word substitutions when watching plant videos, but this one took the prize. It translated Philodendron Radicans as "Ratty Cans," and I thought your viewers would find that humorous. I love your little Philodendron Vietchii. I have a picture of the big ones next to the Spiritus Sancti at NSE tropicals I used as background on my computer for awhile. Where does one find a tiny one like that? As always I found your content informative and entertaining. Thanks Nick!

Thank you for saying Cebu properly! Hahaha! I was born in Cebu and it’s painful to hear the name said so incorrectly by most. By the way, my Cebu Blue pothos is one of my most favorite plants. Mine is so large and lush but was quite hard to find. It is elusive, for sure. I’ve also learned that it is much slower to propagate and a little bit more difficult to grow initially until it actually decides to take off and grow finally. It is absolutely stunning though!

I've come to accept I don't have enough light and warmth during winter, for philodendrons and peperomias to survive. Sad, because I love some of these very diverse group of plants. But I do have the staple Epipremnums which can survive, as well as Sansevierias, Dracenas, Bromeliads and surprisingly, the Ctenanthe variety of prayer plants. As well as the Domino variety of spaths, which you actually put me onto. I would love a Cebu Blue to add to my Epipremnum collection, unfortunately, in Australia they cost over $200 for a cutting. Maybe one day. Cheers for these comparisons.

I wish i could find the orange stemmed Epipremnum aureum, it's utterly gorgeous. I've only ever seen it on Bali growing up coral walls in a very dry area of that Island. Having said that they grew it in the outdoor bathrooms..coral is very porous and guests in that far flung area very thin on the ground so they didn't get much water from shower splash. The stems were a stunning bright bright orange, the leaf variegation is the same as aureum just much deeper yellow. I will have to wait for the end of Covid to go plant hunting there again. I'm not sure what the juvenile foliage and stems look like as these were already adult. Because of the climate and lack of rain they grow very very slowly, so a plant no more than a meter long already has adult foliage and is years and years old. The intense orange stems were ridged and flattened against the coral stone like lava flow. Gorgeous things. Being stunted in this manner produces a very attractive plant. Large but few leaves on very short internodes and a much thickened in this case flat stem one or two roots going down into the ground to keep them alive, no more. The leaves persist for many many years. I will definitely be taking my camera next time! PS - as cute as you make it sound - there is no "pip" in Epipremnum, it's Epi-premnum as in epiphyte, epeeee-prem-num. LOL

Nick, I am 78 years old, have had houseplants all my life but have now run across something I have never seen. Some of my plants sweat and drip a clear liquid from their leaves. Pothos, young Monstera, and Dumb Cane especially, and mostly for a few days after watering. I do not overwater and let dry completely between. It is a lot. It puddles up on the leaves of the Dumb Cane. Have you ever seen this? Donna Lewis
@sandyg87944 жыл бұрын
Hi Donna! I hope you don't mind me answering. I've heard that that is normal, but couldn't remember what it is called. This is what I found when I googled it: Transpiration is the process by which moisture or water is carried through plants from roots to small pores on the underside of leaves, where it changes to vapor and is released to the atmosphere. Transpiration is essentially evaporation of water from plant leaves. Transfusion and translocation do not involve the loss of water. I hope this helps! Sandy
