Albert Ellis (1913 - 2007) was an American psychologist who in 1955 developed Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT). He held M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in clinical psychology from Columbia University and American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP). He also founded and was the President of the New York City-based Albert Ellis Institute for decades. He is generally considered to be one of the originators of the cognitive revolutionary paradigm shift in psychotherapy and the founder of cognitive-behavioural therapies. Based on a 1982 professional survey of USA and Canadian psychologists, he was considered as the second most influential psychotherapist in history (Carl Rogers ranked first in the survey; Sigmund Freud was ranked third).

thanks to this man teaching, I can finally overcome rejection, self pity and the cruelness of the world.......and yes for the most part the world is still cruel but now its just an inconvenience that I can tolerate. I don't like it and yes it sucks but oh well, life goes on and I find my happiness and pleasure daily now! So I am living the good life regardless of the negative outcomes.

Dr. Albert Ellis was a better, and more concise, communicator than his peer Dr. Aaron Beck, even the latter is credited with originating CBT -- mainly because Dr. Beck was more interested in research and was more mainstream.

@@majidbennis85 Michael Edelstein is a friend of mine. I have learned through REBT to unconditionally accept myself, no matter what my actions may be. Whether I succeed or fail has nothing to do with accepting myself. I accept myself based upon nothing at. It's up to me, so I do it. It's also up to everyone. We determine our self--acceptance.
