This week in The Team Room, we sit down with Rae and Sully, 2 of the Air Force's most highly trained, capable and experienced medical professionals! We talk about their experience as part of the Air Force's highly specialized and trained Special Operations Surgical Team- or SOST, for short- during combat, assessment and selection, what career path to take- and of course, questions directly from YOU!
So if you're a self-proclaimed medical super geek (like Brian) or just a knuckle-dragging pipe hitter that wants to know more about Air Force Special Operations and the teams you will be working with (like Peach and Trent), this one is DEFINITELY for you!!!
So turn the lights down low, the volume all the way the fr*ck up, and let's #EarnEachBreath with Sully and Rae here in the team room!!!
00:03:25 Rae Finds Her Way
00:04:42 Sully Finds His Way
00:06:12 Where Does SOST Operate?
00:11:49 Going Into SOST

30 minutes. Wow. Considering it takes about 5 minutes to get someone on a sled/gurney and all their stuff (i.e, NVGs, weapons, sensitive equipment) all accounted for... then you gotta beat feet to a shed somewhere and get that person on a table and under anesthesia..... then do surgery in said shack.... you gotta be absolutely booking it. 🙌 MAD respect. Holy crap.

This is late but: how do SOST members balance military life with family life? Are most members male? (Is it extremely difficult to get in as a female?) Do you constantly live with your team? How old are most of the members (after medical education and experience is it close to 30 or 40)?

Great vid! Not much is out there detailing SOST, so thank you guys for this. You guys mentioned a lot of the aspects of the selection pipeline like mental, physical, and medical qualifications, but I was hoping to get some info on specifically the physical aspect. Is the one week selection for SOST similar to the Air Force Special Operations Assessment & Selection course for PJs, CCTs, SR with open water swims, water confidence, extended training days, etc? You guys mentioned rucking and carrying heavy objects, but I'm mostly concerned about water stuff! Thanks again for the vid!

I’m currently a critical care nurse (BSN) in Paramedic school coming up on my Army NG ETS date looking to drop an application for this. I can’t find much info on it, other than this podcast, a few videos, and what’s on the AF website so I’m just going to roll with it and see where it takes me lol. If not this I’ll try to get on CCATT or other way around. Fingers crossed, because I don’t feel like I’m doing much as a 68W right now (because of what I do civilian side) and I feel like my skills could be utilized better 🥲

How about USA can take its cognitive radio to make the human specie an automated robotic programmed machine being operated by a central community cognitive radio operating on 2.4Ghz or the 5G Network via every human being adopting a Model Human Processor (MHP) that damn has a model cognitive cyclic thinking pattern that based on what it is computing will be adjusted by the cognitive radio, your emotions are also programmed Into the MHP as well, so basically your entire existence and cognitive awareness is preprogrammed like WTF, that is a cognitive prison to begin with, self-determination is gone, and you as a human being basically have no choice it is being made for you by a computer mathematical matrix programming network. whom ever has come up with this and designed this needs a bullet in the head.
