And he's very funny, his commentating at the Fed x Nole Wimbledon final was very good and in the pre-show he has so funny about his own experience playing vs Roger at Wimbledon.

Great player, was so unfortunate with Federer as his opponent. Otherwise would´ve been a multiple major winner. Never was more gutted for a Federer opponent than after his Wimbledon 2009 loss.

I was genuinely upset for Andy that day. You could tell that was going to be his last attempt, and he had Roger that day but for 1 mistake...a real shame.

Perfectly and our last American male who as ever held it down respectably other than John but the fans sorely miss Roddick and so do it 🏆😎🎾👏👏👏

I'd be lying if I said I ever sat there with my American flag cheering for Roddick. But I always felt so bad for him against Federer. I remember one U.S. Open where he served about as good as I have ever seen a human serve, and I don't think he got a set off of him. But the '09 Wimbledon final takes the cake. He really, really deserved that one. And it would have completed his legacy. About the only time I have been more gutted for a guy who wasn't, like, a personal favorite of mine, was a couple weeks later, a few hundred miles to the north, when Tom Watson barely missed out on winning The Open Championship at age 59. What might have been for both men.

I remember watching that match live. Andy outplayed Roger that day through and through. Roger's serve kept him in the match until the fateful end. Pretty sure that final broke Andy's will because he never really seemed to recover.

That's what people keep saying about Roddick. But Djokovic and Nadal showed up and were able to beat Roger here and there. Roddick just wasn't good enough. Still the best American after Agassi retired though.

Nice to hear from Andy. He was indeed a very very good player. As many others have said, he would have been multiple grandslam winner had it not been for Rogers prime years. Glad to see he is enjoying life after tennis!

Looking at Roddicks game, it is actually similar to the current batch of Querrey, Johnson, Isner etc Obviously Roddick had the mental edge over those players but America even back to Roddick is creating a very similar type of American Hard court player. There is little to no variation in the players they are producing. Fritz, Tiafoe are also along the same lines. I can imagine the drills and education not differing too much up and down the country. Where as in Europe the style of upbringing can be vastly different from country to country. Even though the US has 250/300 million people I wonder what the actual tennis population of the country is. And more specifically the amount of Kids playing tennis.

Mn B I’ll tell you. I am a tennis coach in the USA, I’ve had the opportunity to work along 1 junior players from my state and even a kid ranked as high as 4 in the nation. The problem is a couple reasons in my eyes. Number one tennis just isn’t as popular here because of basketball, football, baseball. Tennis comes maybe 5-6 most played sport. Everywhere else in the world tennis is top 2 if not top 3 played. Also the kids don’t seem to have the same work ethic as kids from Europe, South America and Australia for example. It’s a shame really, I would practice with high level players running down any ball I could and the coaches of other players would say why don’t you act more like me and run balls down. Also we need more red clay courts here so the kids can have a different type of skill added to there game. We have mostly hard courts, the green clay that is normal here isn’t the same as red and plays completely different so when these kids get in red clay they can’t figure out how to excel on it

I used to see Andy Roddick as overrated, having all the spotlight for only haven won 1 slam. But now its clear that Andy is one of the most underrated players ever, no doubt he’d have multiple slams if not for Federer. Goes to show how strong the era of tennis we’ve been in for the last 20 years has rly been.
@a32tl6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, people always seem to rag on Andy for only winning one Slam. They seem to forget that he was the runner-up in 4 more Grand Slam finals. No small feat. He was a Federer away from adding more trophies to his legacy. I still love the guy and followed his career from start to finish. Am still a fan of his.

2003 was a transitional year in men's tennis (from the era of Sampras/Agassi to Fed/Nadal) and Andy was lucky that Agassi lost and didn't make it to the finals. The year before, Sampras put on a absolute serve and volley clinic against Roddick.

Go crawl back under a rock Ted. Andy won the US Open and was the runner-up at 4 other Slams, which is quite credible. He earned over $20m playing tennis. No average player does that well.
