Murky Seb's Wild Underwater Adventures Episode 9
We brave a remote creek deep in the wilderness to try track down one of the weirdest freshwater fish we've ever seen!
Along the way we find many incredible native fish including Purple Spotted Gudgeons, Western Carp Gudgeons, Crimson Spotted Rainbowfish, Smelt, Spangled Perch, Spiders and a very strange mystery fish .
Come along for this wild underwater adventure and learn about the lives of our native fish and the environments they live in.
Keep it murky! and lets get exploring !
Please note i have incorrectly identified some gudgeons as firetail gudgeons, they are in fact most likely western carp gudgeons. They look very similar and have similar behaviors and features to firetail gudgeons however are two different species of the same genus. Firetail gudgeons do not have the white stripe on their fin unlike the western carp gudgeons.
Also Spangled Perch eggs do not have the ability to survive being dried out
The Mystery plant is a type of liverwort. Liverwort are a group of non-vascular plants similar to mosses, a very ancient plant they are far different to most plants we generally think about because they do not produce seeds, flowers, fruit or wood, and even lack vascular tissue. Instead of seeds, liverworts produce spores for reproduction

It is very interesting to see fish that we keep in aquariums in their natural environment. I´ve had aquariums for like 45 years now and the last 10-15 years or so, I have seen quite many videos of "aquarium fish in the wild". Just a short comment on water flow. Many species seem to handle/prefer faster flowing water than we give them in our aquariums. After some thinking and remembering my days walking the creeks in Sweden at night (catching crayfish and seeing a lot of sleeping fish), I think this might be a "dangerous" conclusion. Yes, during daytime, some fish will be in fast flowing water, but a creek is a lot bigger than most tanks, so for the night these fish can retreat to slower flowing water to rest/sleep. This might be duplicated in an aquarium by using two pumps and a timer. The second pump just runs during daytime and gets shut off during nighttime. Just be careful with the pump that is on a timer - avoid big filters connected to that one, since the filter bacterias wont like being starved of oxygen for a longer period of time. Have the real filter compartment connected to the pump that runs all the time.

Those eel tail catfish get well over 600mm long in Toonumbar Dam in northern nsw, even had one grab a deep diving lure , which for a moment I thought was a record bass.Great content Seb, genuinely interesting for so many people that love their creeks and rivers.
