I've been owned by four Basset Hounds and loved every minute of it. You forgot to mention they slobber, A LOT..! And they can sling that slobber way high up on your walls...!

Ha! You've caught us - how could we miss such a 'slobbery' detail? 😄 It sounds like your walls have had their fair share of Basset Hound love! It's true, their slobber can turn any home into an abstract art gallery, and it's all part of the charm of being 'owned' by a Basset Hound. Thanks for sharing this 🎨🐶

Yes, highly intelligent. Never had to try to train mine. He knew what to do without stupid pet tricks on my part. Just love them, they will do same to you big time - like most dogs or other creatures.

Thanks for sharing your perspective on Basset Hound intelligence! It's amazing how intuitive and responsive they can be without extensive training. Their capacity to give and receive love effortlessly is truly one of their most endearing qualities. It's heartwarming to hear how your bond with your Basset developed naturally, based on mutual affection and understanding. Stories like yours are a wonderful testament to the deep connection that can form between humans and their canine companions. 🐾

For criminals unaware of what dog is inside, their bark can be alarming so yes they are great for protection.

That's a great point! The deep and resonant bark of a Basset Hound can be very misleading for anyone unfamiliar with the breed. Their bark serves as an effective deterrent, making them unexpectedly good for protection in that sense. It’s always interesting to see how different breeds can surprise us with their capabilities. Thank you for contributing to the discussion and for highlighting this aspect of Basset Hounds! 🐾

I love how the video goes to images of beagles in several clips. Love my basset and she is actually quite intelligent, she just has a lag time of about 15-30 seconds when it comes to obeying on the commands. I like to think she’s thinking about whether she wants to listen or not. She also sheds like there’s no tomorrow. They’re not exaggerating when they say these dogs shed. They are the friendliest and cuddliest dogs I’ve ever known.

Hi there! First and foremost, I want to extend my apologies for the editing oversight in the video, where clips of beagles inadvertently made their way into our Basset Hound feature. It was an honest mistake made in the rush of editing, and I appreciate your understanding and good humor about it 😄 I loved reading about your basset's personality - it sounds like she has quite the character, considering her "deliberation" period before obeying commands. Thank you for sharing, and thank you for your patience and support. We’re lucky to have viewers like you who engage so thoughtfully with our content. 🐾💖

Thank you for sharing your insights about living with a Basset Hound! It's heartwarming to hear about the loyalty, loveability, and gentle nature of your furry friend, traits that truly make them wonderful companions. You've brought up an important point about their stubbornness and selective hearing, which we indeed missed mentioning. These characteristics, while challenging, certainly add to their unique personality, requiring patience and a bit of creativity in training. Have you found any particular strategies effective in managing their stubborn streak? Would love to hear your tips! 🐾

Basset intelligence: my dad was reading Sunday newspaper, sports section blocking his view of the real world around him. He told me he sensed something, dropped paper: there was puppy Jake at his feet sitting with dry water dish in his mouth. True story! I wish I could be a basset for a day to find out what's going on in their craniums. Yes, they think. But what are they thinking? They say dog owners resemble their pets. True. At age 73 I have developed major jowls and my ears have gotten longer somehow. But I don't slobber too much, and I wag my tail frequently and am nice and kind to strangers. What I wouldn't do for someone (female) to hug me and say "Good Boy! again. Plus The only thing I have shed is the fur on my head. And I can still sniff out B.S. equal to a bloodhound or a basset or a beagle. 😊😊 My big question: Why do bassets and dogs and parakeets live such short lives when tortoises and some other parrots live seemingly forever? Gotta check and will report back.

😂 It seems like you share more than a few traits with these adorable dogs - except for the shedding part, of course. And hey, at our channel, we're more than happy to call you a 'Good Boy' for your engaging and heartwarming comments! 🐾 As for the life span mystery of pets vs. tortoises, it's one of nature's intriguing puzzles. Maybe it's to teach us to cherish every moment with our furry friends. Keep those tails wagging and that B.S. sniffing sense sharp! 🐶👃

Do Bassets make good guard dogs? There's a popular sign that says: BURGLARS BEWARE! Sleeping Basset may present a tripping hazard.
@ouramazinganimals
@ouramazinganimals 9 ай бұрын
😄 That's a great sign! While Basset Hounds might not fit the typical image of a guard dog due to their relaxed demeanor, they can be surprisingly alert and protective when the situation calls for it. Their deep bark and keen sense of smell can make them quite effective at alerting their owners to something unusual. So, in a way, they're a unique blend of a laid-back companion and a watchful guardian - plus the added tripping hazard when they're in nap mode! Thanks for your comment and for watching the video! 🐶👀

They are intelligent, by making humans do more. Females are great for protection. The deep voice and protective nature can be striking. All hounds typically will follow their noses. Yes they are very trainable but are strong hounds. Very social and excellent for families and children.

Thank you for your insightful comment! You've highlighted some wonderful aspects of Basset Hounds that many people might not be aware of. Their ability to make humans work for their affection is indeed a sign of their intelligence, and their deep bark can certainly be deceiving. It's great to hear your appreciation of their protective nature and social disposition, especially around families and children. Basset Hounds truly have a unique blend of characteristics that make them fantastic companions. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and adding to the conversation! 😊🐾

Are Bassets stubborn? Are they easy to train?
@ouramazinganimals
@ouramazinganimals 6 ай бұрын
Basset Hounds do have a reputation for being quite independent and can sometimes be perceived as stubborn, especially when their interests diverge from the task at hand. This trait stems from their breeding as scent hounds, where focus and determination were key. When it comes to training, their independent nature means they might not always be the easiest to train compared to some other breeds, but with patience, consistency, and positive reinforcement, Basset Hounds can learn and thrive. They respond well to treats and love, so those can be great tools in your training sessions. It's also important to keep training sessions short and fun, as Bassets can get bored easily. Have you had any experiences training a Basset Hound? We'd love to hear more about it!

These dogs are very smart and intelligent can be stubborn to & and affection! It comes natural to go hunting for rabbits especially mine was. Can be very comical. You do want to make sure their ears are clean inside. When she got older she got glaucoma and one eye she had to have one eye removed. She was a small bone hound The breeder told me. I got her at a farm exposed around children.

Forgot. Good guard dog, hell no. I lived on second floor of an apartment building. Jakie the Basset was at sliding glass door one day wagging his tail. What the heck? Maintenance guys were painting.the balcony. Bassets suffer from separation anxiety, too. They need constant attention or people around. Slobber bad. But this can be controlled by not keeping a full water dish around all day and cleaning their jowls after treats and meals. I still rate bassets an 11 on a scale of 1 to 10. (Like Spinal Tap amps.)

Hi there! It sounds like you had quite an experience with your Basset Hound, Jakie 🥴 You're absolutely right about their nature. While Basset Hounds may not be the the typical guard dog, they are known for their unique personalities and loving nature. Their tendency towards separation anxiety really highlights their need for companionship and affection. Thanks for the great tip about managing their slobber - that's really helpful advice for potential Basset owners! And I love your enthusiasm for Bassets, rating them an 11 out of 10! 🌟

LOL, thanks for your comment! It's always interesting to see how perceptions of Basset Hounds can vary. They do have a unique blend of intelligence that's often overshadowed by their independent nature. Training a Basset Hound can definitely be a unique journey, as they tend to think for themselves rather than blindly follow commands. It's this distinct personality that endears them to so many. Do you have a Basset Hound yourself? We'd love to hear about your experiences! Appreciate your engagement and glad you're part of our community of dog lovers! 😊🐾
