Thanks Dolphine for the coverage, my heart goes out to the affected, but most of the issues are caused by people building on reperian land, the county government also has the responsibility of enforcing this laws, unfortunately the Nairobi governor and the government don't care less about it people they are busy looting. While a few people are stealing billions of cash on a daily basis. Africa is not poor. It's the cruelty of the leaders. This area was supposed to be totally clearde like 20 years ago, and proper houses should have been built with proper sewage system and proper infrastructure. And building this kind of structures should be abolished. Si Raila wanted to build houses in Mathare and Kibera with Kibaki back in 2002 and these people refused and claimed they won't be able to afford modern houses?

@@kibindankoi9824 I do remember that! And the current government refused to move people from these shanties. When disaster hit is when you fukuza watu...Where do they go? This is the beginning of Cyclones in the Indian Ocean and we will have more of these as Climate change occurs...After the rains, they should deal with these slums once and for all...Make proper building and sewage and storm drainage systems at least so when there is disasters the damage won't be as bad

As a Kenyan, I live in a country that gets affected by floods like every month but the plans and disaster management systems always avoid tragedies. The authorities don't allow people to build in certain areas and that is taken serious...Building a shanty next to a river is asking for it

Not everyone has land upcountry. Most are single mothers, who never got a land inheritance from their parents because of their culture. Soo their children and grandchildren have no land anywhere.

I feel depress when I see shanties houses, it is a common disease across black africa countries. Its true the flood happened but looking at the shanty hoses people live in, I begin to ask what is the duty of these useless black africa leaders if they cant provide decent accommodation for the people who put them in power. Few millions of dollars can transform this horrible environ these poor and helpless live in. May God provide for the helpless.
