Bec that was most satisfying watching that plaster come off, but what a job and what a lot to clean up. Your son coming to help his mom shows how much they care and seeing your first foster cats go is sad but happy at the same time. I feel sorry that the ginger cat Otis had a failed foster is he/she back by you? looks like a darling. Toby is looking so much happier now and all the animals look so content. Enjoy your break with your daughter, relax and recharge and knowing Sam he will look after the fort while you are gone and he has us for company ha ha. I know he will miss you he always does. Hi Rebecca. You guys are getting (mostly) the comments you deserve. You don’t know how special you guys are, because you don’t see what we see. Don’t worry if you can’t get around to answering everyone, on top of all the other stuff you do. What you’ve already done is little short of a miracle, and doing it while also caring for the rapidly expanding fur/feather family just blows my mind. Then, as if all that wasn’t enough, you film and edit together a coherent and hugely entertaining video for us! While I adore your dungarees, I think we need to buy you a red and blue corset and cape with a big “S” logo. No way a regular human can do all that and keep going. Yes, I BET Sam’s chuffed! Every step forward, in his absence, is a step he doesn’t have to endure himself, leaving him more time for other stuff. Thanks yourself. You and Sam have quite different, yet complimentary styles and I love both. I’m grateful every time I see a new one land. Don’t worry, chipping away plaster is not as dull as you’d think, when we get to watch you do it, rather than having to do it ourselves. We have plenty of that to do, but ours is mostly separating from the stone, thanks to weather having been inside the house for years. It falls in huge slabs, then crumbles when it hits the ground. For safety, I want to knock it from above, so it doesn’t land on me and I don’t have to breathe it, when it smashes. But that’s not a problem for now. We have other stuff that’s more urgent. BTW, if it’s not already too late, I probably have some plastic sheet on an end of roll, left over from when we were doing dry lining.

It’s great to see you progressing in the renovations. It is coming along leaps and bounds. Wonderful place for your morning cuppa. As to the comments on here, please don’t imagine them as conversations. There isn’t , or shouldn’t be, any expectation on our part that you reply to them all. That would waste far too much time and slow the whole project down. Use them rather as words of encouragement. If questions are posed, keep them for the Q&A. That is the best way to deal with them. 😎

HI. From your video today, it sounds as if you have had some negative comments - ignore them. You are a united, amazing family, working incredibly hard together to make a good life for yourselves and your menagerie. You deserve every bit of good luck you get and I wish you more. When you start contemplating what you still have to do, look back and see everything that you have achieved and overcome. Know that you can do it and, if you feel overcome, make a cuppa and sit for five minutes calm. We have a narrowboat and took it back to the metal (oh boy!)then had all the rustproofing, priming, undercoats and top paint (11 coats in all), to put on, as well as all the 'little' side jobs that arise. Not on the scale of your project, but we are over 60 so enough. We only had 13 days so some coats of paint have to wait and days were long, but see when we had finished! The feeling is incredible. There are so many parts of your project that can make you feel like that as you go along - just look at your temporary home. You made such a good job of that - and so sensible for the effect on you as you work so hard. Hang in ther - you'll make it. :)

Thanks for doing this KZbin channel so we can admire your skills and dedication, and marvel at your progress! Here in the Ozarks, we're 5 miles from a paved highway, 7 miles from the closest neighbor, and 14 miles from town. We've been working on the conservation and some renovation to our 1927 two-room cabin to add a washroom and make the attic into our bedroom and library. We went 1.5 years without running water or electricity all during the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic. What a nightmare. Happy to say that after nearly 4 years we're now 95% done in spite of the 66 pack rats, 8 copperhead snakes, 3 timber rattlesnakes, and a bajillion huge spiders. What a challenge - - - but what a blessing as we now enjoy the fruits of our labor!

You are a very methodical,dilligent and tidy worker. Peeling back the layers of plaster reveals the workmanship of the original builder and the stone he chose. The in filled fireplace has a nice header stone over it. You will always fight moisture in Ireland . Either rain ,rising damp or vapour in interior locations that are heated. Masonary when it is dry can act as heat storage units. I don't know in which direction your property is orientated but it looked like one of your walls in the barn area gets sunshine, I would recommend wide eaves or verandahas to keep these walls dry or maybe leanto glasshouses . The masonry if it stays dry will radiate heat back into the building in the evening and keep frost off plants in wintertime . Good luck your doing great.
@davidmuirhead10602 ай бұрын
Wholeheartedly agree. Wide eaves might not be enough on the western/ door side though. The wind and rain are driven hard on that side and the southern gable end. Time for some input from experts in house design in rural Ireland. The house does not have a lot of trees to break the wind on that side. Verandahs could unfortunately spoil the view on the western side if not carefully designed. Incorporating them with a door porch needs some thought but could work and give some valuable outside seating space. Now is the time to think about it even if you don't do it under the Grant Scheme.
@davidmuirhead10602 ай бұрын
Meant to say western gable end. The Orangery should go a long way to protecting the front door wall area.

Becca, no wonder you are so beautiful - inside and out. Your hard work and dedication to repairing the cottage shows in your trim figure and I'll bet your muscles are as well defined as any athlete. Your love for your animal family is also to be commended. Sam is a lucky guy and your love for each other is marvelous to see.

I discovered your channel from watching a local channel of a friend building his cottage in our Province of New Brunswick on the Atlantic coast of Canada. I immediately subscribed and am looking forward to watching every Saturday. Greetings from across the pond!😀😀🐾🇨🇦

Loved seeing the morning routine at the beginning - it gives a good insight of the beginning of your days. Anyway, I know how difficult it is to keep up with comments here on YT - the heart is willing but time doesn't allow so 'hearts' were a way of showing that the comments were appreciated. You're such an incredible hard worker - all of you are! Safe travels back to the UK. :)
