I had a great day exploring the area and spending some time at 3 different areas and learning some new things along the way. There is much more left all through the forest and hills but I focused on these main areas. I hope you all enjoyed and have a great weekend!

It's nice to see someone showcasing this great place. Hosmer is my hometown. The house I grew up in is less than 1km from this cemetery and almost straight across from the tipple ruins. I have visited Fred Aldersons gravesite many times who coincidentally shares my fathers first name - and it was my father who formed the Hosmer Heritage Society back in the mid-80's. It was actually the Hosmer Heritage Society that restored and rebuilt a few of those coke ovens with the red bricks back to original replicas as you've shown in this video. If you go a bit further up the mountain, you can get to the original mine-shaft entrances, which were filled in for safety reasons. What is most striking and saddening to see in person in the cemetery is the tombstones of many very young children. Thanks for sharing this place and a piece of Canada's history.
@ExploringwithWade3 жыл бұрын
Oh nice thanks for the info nice to hear from someone that has a connection to Hosmer. It was a very interesting place to check out and I love learning all I can about Canada's history. I am sure there is so much more to experience and find there. Beautiful area all through there. The cemetery definitely felt sad with all the children there but also a peaceful feeling spot. Have a great day!

Fantastic exploration and great research you've done about this old coal mining area, Wade. I love all the different structures, buildings and dark tunnels and how you captured them on video. I would love to fly my drone there. These lost places are always a great combination of history and nature. The hidden cemetary was a great find and highlight, too. I guess many people died at young age during these times. Especially bad conditions for children. Thanks for sharing your travel adventures with us, my friend.👏👍

Fascinating industrial heritage. The domed interior of the coke oven is quite remarkable and well preserved. I hope these historic structures can be preserved. Great video thanks for sharing 👍👍👍
@ExploringwithWade4 жыл бұрын
Yes I really find all of this so interesting. A lot of work put into building these ovens and was nice to see up close. They look to be respected fairly well. I think lots of bricks were taken in the past over the years unfortunately and they aren't official historical sites but hopefully they can be one day. Thank you!

Really nice content Wade, lots too see! Awesome introduction and commentary, you have the voice for it. That tunnel is creepy even in the day, you're brave. Beehives almost looks like hobbit homes, neat. Must've been busy here back then, lots going on. Sweet exploration and impressive discoveries, lots of walking but worth it. Sad about the children that died so early, could've been a common cause. Kudos on finding the hero for us, thanks again for this great share, cheers!

Super cool explore Wade. Love abandoned places like that. That place looks massive. I enjoy seeing all the colorful art. I love the solitude there. I was imagining hanging out and cooking some caveman steaks in one of those ovens. 🤔 The cemetery is really interesting. It really shows how far we've come with reducing infant and child mortality. You had to be tough to endure the struggles of the times back then. I watched a video this week about people who clean old gravestones for a hobby. Some of the old stones there could use some help like that. Well done my friend. Enjoyable upload for sure. Big 👍 ~ Kristine

I thought it was a very fascinating explore. The area is massive and so much is now gone or hidden really well in the forest. Yes times were tough and health care is so much better than it was just 100 years ago. I hope the locals can preserve and maintain the area. These parts of our history should be remembered. Thanks for watching I always appreciate it. 😀👍

This brings back memories of my old home town in Ohio that had a deep vertical shaft coal mine, rows upon rows of coke ovens and a steel mill. The mill use the coke for their furnaces. By the time I was old enough to explore the area the mine was closed, flooded all the way to the top, the mill was all but gone but the ovens were still there... The remains of the ovens has been turned into a park with only a few ovens preserved.
