This was a nice little hike through the forest and to see what we could find left over from the operation. Not much is left but was a nice little stop except the mosquitoes. They were brutal at times haha. Hopefully you enjoyed the walk through this lesser known and visited area in Jasper.

Mining has been a major part of our ancestry. My grandfather, the kid's great grandfather, moved to Milwaukee from the mining town of Virginia, Minnesota. My wife comes from one of the coal mining capitals of the world, West Virginia. It is such a woven thread into the history of the place, and is part of the story of what that state is going through right now. Your story reflects so much. - Daddy

Many thanks! Most of these sites when they closed down were salvaged and dismantled so there isn't much left but being able to see a few things left and they made a little hike in the area is nice to see. I make a good effort to find some of the lesser known and travelled places now when I can and I love the history from back in those times that helped make Canada what it is today. It is worth the quick stop. The area seems like it is not being maintained so much anymore. They used to keep information pamphlets there to explain more of the history and the locations along the trail but apparently they haven't been restocked for years. A bit sad it is not being cared for much anymore.

Thanks so much for the great video. It holds special interest to me as my Father was born there, his Uncle was killed in the mine, and my parents Honeymooned on a trip in 1947. My Mother says I was conceived somewhere in the area. Coincidently, I knew a guy who was born in the other Pocahontas. My Mother said they found the grave of his Uncle, as they put bars around the graves to prevent the bears from digging up the bodies. My Grandparents came from Scotland and he was a butcher in the company store. I don't know how many kids were born there, but I imagine not a lot. When the mine closed they moved the buildings on railcars, so the only places left are the foundations and concrete structures.

Thank you! Most I talk to have never heard of it. I like this kinda stuff and history so I try and find the lesser known places in my travels also. The lower hike is very short and easy. Just lots of mosquitoes is the only negative haha.

Interesting trip. I would imagine the vault is a dry place where they would store explosives. I didn't see any mine shaft entrances or did I blink while watching this? Looks like a good hike / walk if anything. We don't have many historical sites in Florida except some Spanish forts. Thanks for sharing.

With how it was built and the heavy built door yes most likely that is what it was for. There is so much remnants all scattered through the hills and usually in a lot of these places everything was salvaged and dismantled very well and mines completely sealed in. With a lot of hunting and research you could probably find the location of the original mine entrance but there wouldn't be anything visible most likely. With more time to search around I am sure there is still a few more interesting finds to be found. Thanks for watching! 👍

Yes love the history and the setting and atmosphere of the forest and nature. The actual mines are almost always sealed in with no chance of access anymore for safety. Usually all that is left behind is just a few structures or foundations. They do a good job salvaging and repurposing the materials and buildings to other locations and cleaning up. That is why we see very little left. There are a few mines around where they give tours into the actual mines still. Thanks for watching. Have a great day. 😀

@@beyondyourbackyardadventur3089 There was no longer a sign telling me exactly what it was but most likely some sort of storage not really sure. The actual coal mine entrances are huge that would fit rail tracks and carts. If you are interested in a better idea of what it would all look like I have an abandoned coal mine video that I did a few months back that has a lot still intact to give you a better idea. It is pretty interesting.

Yes the coal industry here was booming in the early 1900's. It still exists but not to the scale as back then.
