The fact that they made it clear that disabeld people should use the premium line is already a great thing . In my experience there is often no dedicated area and employees don't always know where you should go if you have a disability where standing in line is dangerous to your health. I'm sure if the premuim line was too long for someone that they probably could have went in through that adrenaline lounge line if they briefly explained their issue.

Man I LOVED this video, Amanda! I actually race sailboats and love Sail GP! As always, enjoyed your review and detail. The thing that is insane to me is that these are considered "sailboats"...when they're more like...hydrofoil gliders. The engineering is AMAZING how they work and the speeds they can achieve.

How you may have gotten sunburnt even with a hat: if you're that close to the water, it reflects the sunlight back in your face even when it's overcast. I speak from experience xD
@waywardscythe33585 ай бұрын
Hydroplane races are pretty fun to watch. Smaller races have a county fair feel and then you get big events like SeaFair. To add a little spice to this, the first small hydro race I saw, 1st and 2nd lapped 3rd twice, 2nd lost position due to serious engine troubles, and 4th never started and was slowly drifting towards the track for the whole race. Wild stuff.
@snowrs15 ай бұрын
Being on the Ohio, I actually started watching Hydroplanes before F1 as it is just everywhere, you are right it is awesome, and a lot of fun the problem is it has started to disappear at least around here.

Pro tip: if you are curious to see sailing, the Olympics (which start well, NOW) have a ton of different sailing events, from very small single person sails to full teams in bigger boats. And Olympics do take new viewers into account really well as a whole, as far as commentating goes, because that's the case for most viewers.

As someone in their 20s who loves F1 and has sailed for 20 years, I would never go to a watch a sailing race/regatta (sailing race/tournament). NGL sailing is so fun to do but awful to watch! Except highlights and the starts! Sailing starts are probably one of the most exciting parts because everyone in on an equal playing field and there's a countdown to the start for several minutes. You try to spend that time getting into position (while always having to move and avoid hitting or illegally blocking anyone else). You have to figure out which way you want to go and time everything perfectly which is hard when you have to keep moving. So there's a ton of work and strategy going into the start!

I know a bit about sailing because I'm in a rowing club for years and I can vouch they're the most "glamorous" of the water sports. The money you need to train and compete is so much you either need to be rich or get multiple big sponsorships. Makes sense they cater to the F1 fans, and probably tennis as well. It's probably the most gatekept sport for four year fans. I probably wouldn't be allowed to attend, even if I paid for the most expensive ticket, because I look like a cheapskate. In comparison, rowing gets zero exposure, clubs are always on the red, and members constantly hold fundraisers to get kids to compete.

Was at the Halifax Sail GP event earlier this year! The general admission tickets were sold out well before I had a chance to buy (I think within a few minutes of being posted) so I just watched from the waterfront outside of the official viewing zone. I had only heard of it because the boats were practicing in the harbour in the days before the event. Would love to attend again if/when they come back to Halifax. Attendance was pretty varied here demographics wise, but I think thats cause the whole city decided to watch. Similar issues with music blasting at the same time as commentary, though commentary was still loud enough to hear.

Evidently all hats are not created equal when it comes to protecting from sunburn. They even have a UPF rating that needs to be at 50 if possible. Even then you also need sunscreen with an SPF of 50 or higher also because sunlight can bounce off things and still get round the protection from a hat.

As someone who’s been sailing since they were little, Olympic sailing is much more fun to watch. There’s a lot more boats and they’re much smaller (1-2 people per boat). I also think unless you really know what’s going on, it’s more fun to watch on tv because you get all the commentary and ar stuff so it’s easier to folloe

There is great KZbin coverage of the races. Watch a couple it's pretty wild. Lots of close-up footage. The NYC races were amazing with the statue of Liberty.
@Velereonics5 ай бұрын
Pro sailing is a bit like pro surfing except the teams are like super super close, like the individual members of any given team, like bffs for many years type of deal, and then the different teams are all seeing each other at the same races and spend so much time away from home, so they are really close also, and there's like generational connections between all of them it's very wholesome. There was a race around the southwest of Australia (I think) where many boats capsized and some people died, due to an extremely rapid change in weather patterns near the southern edge, and the team that was in first along with many others aborted the race (which had a large prize) to try and prevent other boats from going out and getting them to turn back to the west shoreline.

Cool seeing you review a sailing event! My parents have been really into sailing for ages, my step-dad competed in the national NZ team back in the day. And yeah, very much an older white crowd though they're always trying to get and keep younger/more diverse folk in the hobby. Ultimately the boats have to be owned by someone, and they'll probably be older wealthier white people. (Or in the case of my parents, decently well off but mostly super dedicated to the hobby.) The Sydney to Hobart is a pretty intense race for anyone interested.

i think people just assumed context clues. you were at a sailing event, and you said before that you're always determined to have a good time, so both of those combined could come across as "i really like sailing, that's why i'm here!" and since you're there at an event, "do you sail?" is just a regular but relevant opener.
