Uncrucifying the Messiah: Archaeology at Emmaus, Roman Tyranny by Crucifixion, and Messianic Hope

If the Emmaus disciples could have reversed history, they would have uncrucified the Messiah. They were ordinary 1st c. people. They knew the horror and shame of the Roman method of crucifixion. It’s not what they wanted for Jesus. In this video, we look at what archaeologists have found in Emmaus (and how it’s connected to the ark of the covenant); the skeletal remains of a 1st century Jew who was crucified; what Roman politicians said about crucifixion; and how Jesus gave us the proper hermeneutic or interpretive method to understand how the entire Old Testament is about him.

I have heard this was a penalty reserved only for treason, rebellion against the state: rebels. And the word identifying the two crucified alongside Jesus was not "thief" it was "bandit" and this had connotations of a rebel

The idea that a unlimited powerful god has to have suffer and murdered his son (!) to redeem his creatures is so bizarre. This idea in nuce was invented by Paul who never encountered Jesus who according to his letters never had an understandig of the life and ideas of Jesus portayed in the Gospels to counteract the jewish law and to create a new religion which never ever was the aim of the Jesus of the Gospels.

I would propose that the closest analogy to crucifixion in modern times would be lynching; not as bad, but for the same political ends as the Romans.
