Allison Gagnon, piano
A delightful bravura arrangement of George Bizet's, Carmen for Horn, Trombone and Piano (arr. John G. Mortimer)!
Horn faculty Maria Serkin is an active performer, pedagogue, and administrator who began teaching at UNCSA in 2015. In addition to involvement at UNCSA, she is the Principal Horn of the Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle and the Hawaii Performing Arts Festival.
Dr. Serkin has also held principal horn positions with the Charlottesville Symphony, Florida Grand Opera, Palm Beach Symphony, Atlantic Classical Orchestra, and the Sarasota Orchestra. An avid educator, she has taught horn master classes extending from the Eastman School of Music and The Juilliard School, to the Crescendo Summer Institute in Hungary. As the Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs, she is deeply committed to guiding all music students towards fulfilling careers.
Coming from a background as an accomplished freelancer in and around Philadelphia for 15 years and also as Principal Trombone of a major symphony orchestra since 2001, trombone faculty John Ilika has familiarity with both worlds. Whether you want to play commercially, or prepare for a orchestral audition, he has been there-and he's been successful. He has also played alto, tenor and bass trombone professionally for over 30 years and has been on faculty at UNCSA since 2010.
Dr. Allison Gagnon prepares her students to stand out through a broad and varied repertoire for preparation and performance and discipline-specific seminars in vocal/instrumental literature for collaborative pianists and support skills for collaborative pianists as part of their curriculum.
