Stuff that can’t quite show up with these stills are (1) compression (cuz KZbin), and (2) motion (obviously). I dunno, for me, seeing this on 4K was a revelation. It was a cavalcade of subtle differences, the increase in depth and texture, all of it made for an incredibly immersive experience.

Not to mention this KZbin video is not HDR, so the 4K samples here are tonemapped to SDR and are not an accurate representation of the image.

Criterion came out swinging on this one and hit a grand slam! Looks nothing short of beautiful! For newer movies, it's one of the best 4K releases that I have seen.

Really glad they didn't do the Citizen Kane type packaging. Was really disappointed in that packaging. But this release was fantastic!

I think sometimes the colours can get a little over bright in HDR (I notice it more often in videos games than movies though). Maybe that’s what they were trying to avoid that here.

I've never seen this movie so therefor never owned the blu ray. I bought this about 2 weeks ago based on the packaging alone and watched it when it arrived. It was surprisingly decent! But again, I'm in love with the packaging more than anything lol. This and the American psycho steelbook are probably my favorite pieces in my small collection. I might even throw the Roger rabbit steel in there. That looks pretty good as well

One big reason I upgraded to the criterion 4K from the blu ray was Dolby atmos on the criterion. The blu ray is DTS only so if you have a Sonos arc it plays in stereo.

Im a 4k and criterion fan and but this is one of those times I will go with the Blu ray especially at $6.99. Unless this is one of your favorite movies and you must have it, that blu is a fantastic transfer..

Your assessment of the highlights/color seem to be mostly influenced by SDR tone-mapped screenshots you're displaying. When actually viewing in HDR, the highlights on the 4K would actually be brighter than the Blu-Ray, and the colors would be more saturated.

Nah. Screenshots are not a perfect representation. I wouldn’t do a review on screenshots. There are instances where the Blu-ray is brighter and more vibrant

take away brightness i cant complain i hate brightness it makes my eyes hurt i watch my movies on my lg oled so i watch it in cinema mode which reduces brightness and gives warmer tone

I never bought Uncut Gems on blu ray so the 4k was a absolute must for me. Plus the packaging is gorgeous I don’t even like digibooks but this is best best packaging I’ve seen from criterion so far.

Do you have any idea why they call this packaging a digibook? Everytime I hear a youtuber mention that word like with free guy or any other movie, I always think they're talking about the film coming with a digital code to a panthlet or something.

@@NYC_Goody It comes from "digipak" for similar packaging for CDs, which was a trademark for the packaging company who developed them. I don't know where "digipak" comes from exactly but my guess is it's probably a reference to CDs being digital (as opposed to analog records which usually come in similar-ish packaging, although without the tray that the CDs sit in).

It was obvious that it would happen eventually. You can only get away with playing around with someone you owe money to for so long before they put you in a hospital or kill you lmao. During the course of the movie you pick up on that he had multiple chances to get out of the hole he was in but he kept digging deeper and deeper until it was to late.

Wrong trailer! Criterion included the wrong trailer on the disc. It lists it as the theatrical trailer when in fact it is the trailer for the blu ray release. The original theatrical trailer was a red band trailer and wish it was included. It’s not the end of the world, I know they would never issue a replacement disc, but you’d like think Criterion would have it together and and include the correct trailer.

I just appreciate the fact that we finally get an honest portrayal of Jews in a negative light. So many times do I see Native Americans, Asians, Africans, Irish and Italians being portrayed in a negative way so yeah as a Navajo it's nice to get more balancing in Hollywood portrayals. You add the fact that the filmmaking is top notch along with the packaging and you have a great Criterion release.
