Head Splattered In Seven Ways being the 7th track of the album and containing riffs in 7/8 and 7/4 was an amazing touch, maybe an homage to Necrophagist’s “7” as the 7th track also being in 7/4

There’s so many good death metal bands out right now alongside undeath, it’s insane. Undeath is great and if you like them you’ll love 200 stab wounds, and sanguisugabogg. Some real ass caveman shit right there. Snuffed on Sight is fucking fire too if you like slam

This record takes me back to the nineties where I enjoyed (and still do to this day) similar bands like Suffocation, Morbid Angel, Cannibal Corpse, Gorguts, Incantation and Immolation. This album kicks brutal butt.

This is such an improvement on all fronts for them, the thiccer sound, the relentless brutality, and shoutout to the spectacular lyrics and theme. Really makes me feel like a megalomaniacal necromancer performing obscene experiments, and fulfilling that fantasy is more than I could ask of any album ever

I wish the production was just a little better. That was my biggest problem with lessions. Not sure how I really feel about this album yet, but this is definitely one of those bands that’s so much better live. Both times I’ve seen them I felt like “where’s this magic on the albums?” Hopefully they can truly capture that on the next one.

death metal lately has been on a hot streak. last year you had some incredible tech death (Stortregn's Impermanence, Archspire's Bleed the Future) and strong melodeath (always love to see a new Carcass); this year we're getting some really fantastic brutal death. my favorite so far is Erebos by Venom Prison, it is so filthy sonically and has absolutely sick riffs, with polemical lyrics and unrelenting vocals from Larissa Stupar. I am very glad to see that Larissa has been very successful and seems to be happy with VP. she's been through Hell (look into what happened in her former band, WolfxDown, if you are in an okay headspace to read about sexual assault--the fucker admitted to what he did to Larissa), and while metalheads can be fucking awful at times (see: Svalbard being harassed for having a woman vocalist), Venom Prison seems to be well-regarded from what I've seen. deservedly so, if you want crushing death metal with a sharp, political blade.

Melon reviewing a death or black metal record without post-rock or noise elements is like me trying to review a car. "This new entry from Toyota doesn't reinvent the wheel, it's pure painted metal from bumper to bumper, and moves forward as expected when you push the accelerator, thanks in no small part to the engine under the hood. Automobile fans will find a lot to like here, though part of me wishes they'd pushed some of the elements that reminded me of bicycles or airplanes a little further. I'm feeling a strong 7." Repeat for my reviews of the next Hummer and Prius.

Most of these new age but old school death metal bands all sound exactly the same. Gatecreeper, Undeath, Creeping Death, Sanguisugabogg etc. Death metal is best when the sound is new, like Entombed, Edge of Sanity, Bolt Thrower, Death etc.
