On "My Car Story" we're at the Carlisle Events in Carlisle PA on 7-16-22.
We're looking at a 1969 ½ Plymouth Road Runner A12 in Platinum Silver Paint. The car comes with the 440 CI V8 engine, and an automatic transmission.
The car's Owner is Kenny Breedlove. Kenny’s had this car since 2021. He shares he has a “426 Hemi Car”, however when he found about how low the documented miles were, he has to buy it.

The hits keep on coming as Lou shows us a car that is barely broken in - what a special treat to see a Road Runner in its near original look! Fantastic! I also like the look of the black steel wheels and usually I loathe modern cars with their black aluminum wheels which just make the wheel wells look like they are black holes. This combination with the red striped tires is great as the steelies give depth to the wheel/tire combo - just spot on right!

Awesome 69 Beepmobile!!... My dad bought a brand new 68 383 RR after he got back from Vietnam... As far as we know it is still registered in New York State....( Unfortunately my dad had to trade it after a year due to high insurance..)

as far as at the drag strip, almost no one could beat a 727 torqueflite auto. plus the buyer probs figd his wife could drive the car..if she didn't know how to drive a manual..a lot of gals did, back then. my mom bought a special order Nova 4dr in '76..police code 350 4bbl & a muncie 4 spd with a 3.20ish posi, ahaha. was a fast car, indeed..was nm slower than my bros 383 4spd '71 Charger...and the Nova was our fam car..2 parents, 4 kids lol! (The Charger held up a lot better over the yrs though) ..we even drove that crazy Nova from Wisc to Montana & back once.

Gas was .29 or .30cent a gallon when these cars came out. They also were designed to run on leaded fuel 101-105 octane. I had a 69' with a 383.

I also had a Roadrunner , a 70 , and it was a project that just ran out of gas . Never should have gotten rid of it but it was the 80's and it needed a lot of work . Oh well , easy come easy go .

My baseball Dad Chris Speier (of the Montreal Expos) taught me to always show my high white tubesocks, but my inherent irreverent, girl crazy (and somewhat lightweight) JVness makes me wear my sneakers super floppy. Awesome Roadrunner! Those Plymouth Roadrunners were built to go FAST in a straight line. They sound so cool. When I was stationed aboard USS Hancock(CVA 19) back in '74 & '75 I had a shipmate that had a yellow '70 Roadrunner. His had the 383 V8 mated to a 4 speed tranny. This car with the six pack 440 with a Tourque-flite tranny is a great match. Those tourque-filtes could really handle that horsepower & torque. Thanks for posting Lou.! Be blessed always!

Yes, though they can turn and stop with aplomb, as well. these were flat handling cars with HD police spec everything. Thanks for your service! My old supv served on the USS Ranger, somewhere back then. I was in the Wisc ANG. He Navy..we had a couple ex Army guys, one served in Viet Nam..we had guys & gals that were former active Air Force..SAC etc. My shop was Munitions Sys Spc..'Ammo Troops'. I was in during the end of the Cold War, through Desert Storm & 9/11. Crazy times..but we had fun.

Goodday Lou, What an absolutely stunning A12 Roadrunner. Love the colour combination real knock out. Great family affair & can't wait to see the Hemi Roadrunner. I have a genuine 1968 Roadrunner Horn in my Valiant Hardtop. I was the lucky bidder couple of years ago at Mecum from the Steve Juliano collection. Those in the Mopar Hobby know who Steve Juliano is. I couldn't believe it but he had only one horn in the original box never used & I won it. Yes I use it every time & I love the sound. Great Car build for speed. The drivetrain is as good as it gets, to me..my fave engine/induction and wow, a 4.10 geared Dana 60..ya feel those leaf spings just plant those 490 ft/lbs of torque, eh? Amazing & simple..engineering excellence. Police handling pkg..no foolin'..the Mopar cop cars could run down about any hotrodder...they would usually crash or blow up their engine trying, ahaha. #plymouthmakesit ❤

My A12 road runner is A4 platinum metallic with M6S pewter & black bucket seat interior, console automatic, tach, power steering. JD's old A12 here is the only one known in it color combo and mine is the only one known in its' color combo.

Sweet Mopar! I was slightly disappointed that it had an automatic transmission with column gearshift rather than a manual 4 speed transmission. Other than that, the car is in excellent condition, and the engine sounds healthy. I never saw a totally removable hood on a regular super stock car from the factory. That's a first for me. Interesting example as always Lou!

I had a friend that had one of these. It was a column shift Torqueflite with manual steering and manual drum brakes. It was not fun to drive!

it depends. some racers would shift the t-flite manually and go up a gear about 100 RPM before redline, bc that'd be that fraction of a second for the shifter to move and all that..& she'd shift right on. ofc the 727 itself shifted in miliseconds :) lots of ppl bought a tach, rather than going with the factory one..y'know, the big Sun Super tach..or maybe a model with a shift light..

I don't know that anyone ever tested the top speed on an A12 Road Runner, but they would do at least 110-112 mph, (briefly.) Ronnie Sox got one up to those speeds at the end of a quarter mile.

These things absolutely were used and abused when new. By 1973 here in Wisconsin they were mostly rats. What a shame.

Wisconsin, aye! yeah, abused and..idk what was worse, the hard use, or the salty roads. i bought a '71 Satellite Sebring Plus in '84 ('75 HP 440, 727, 3.55sg!) and there was already holes in the driver floor pans. ppl just didnt take the time to knock the snow off their boots even..constantly wet carpet all winter & mixed with salt yet and ofc being ravaged from underneath, as well. the steel was thick & fine grade...they just weren't protected as well as now with chip proof paint tech. ..much of the floor pan was barely protected at all, back then..even undercoating was only good a little while, then it served to trap moisture against the metal. ugghh..lol.

@@gzuzsavz I would say that it was about equal. The guys that bought these weren’t exactly interested in entering a fuel economy run. They beat the crap out of these cars, blowing up engines, clutches, you name it. They were often bought on a shoestring (several people in the small town in which I lived had purchased them). These cars were incredibly poorly engineered as far as keeping out rust, they no inner fenders so the tops of the outer fenders had holes in them and behind the rear wheels were rusted out letting water into the trunk accelerating the process. Ah, but they were fun cars.

@@dave1956 the days before rev limiters yeah..ppl were frikkin nuts. peak pwr in say a mopar BB was around 5,500rpm..revving higher you lost pwr, bc of massive recip losses. that..and at redline you had 4.5 quarts of oil circulating in the engine..if you ran just 1 quart low, you were partly sucking air..especially if cornering..it was of paramount importance to keep the crank case full. and change the oil often, if running them hard..the big yummy squishy oil molecules get destroyed and your oil loses it's protective effects fast in those conditions.
