In my opinion, this song is the best ESC entry ever. I sat on a boat between Trelleborg (Sweden) and Sassnitz (Germany) and followed the ESC final of 1993 on a radio. Me girl and I went out and saw the bright stars that covered the baltic sea that night, and heard this song. It was a magic moment in mylife, and Tommy Seebach catched a very special fealing in this wonderful song. Great memories, wonderful song. Denmark 12 points!!!

I will try to explain the song as good as I can but I can’t translate it 100% cuz some danish phrases can’t be translated without sounded ridiculous BUT Chorus: “Under stjernerne på himlen sejler du med mig luk nu stille dine øjne så er vi på vej vi sejler over vandet og ind i drømmelandet du og jeg” Translation: “under the stars in the sky you’re sailing with me close your eyes quietly we’ll be on the way, we’re sailing beyond the sea and into a Dreamworld you and me”

He died in 2003, 53 years old. He was at dyrehavsbakken, when he collapsed. In the ambulance he suffered a heart attack. And despite arriving at Gentoftesygehuset minutes after, and the effort of the doctors he died, very sad indeed.

The song itself was based on a lullaby Tommy sang for his daughter. Unfortunatelly, it only recieved 9 votes placing it at the 22nd place which led to Denmark missing the finales of ESC 1994 as the contest was expanded to include new contestants after the breakup of Yugoslavia and the Soviet Union. The Danish media blamed Tommy for losing the spot, which his son later revealed was the main reason for his father’s subsequent alcoholism and depression, which led to his divorce and early death a decade later at the age of 53. Although he had overcome his alcoholism by this time, there was already permanent damage to his heart, which led to the deadly heart attack in 2003. "Under stjernerne på himlen" was played at Seebach's funeral, as the coffin was carried out of the church. He was truly underappreciated for his time, many pointing to his style being old-fashioned, but he was also an artist who deserved better than what he got. Though he did get posthumous praise, with his youngest son Rasmus Seebach, also a singer-songwriter, recording a cover version of “Under stjernerne på himlen” in 2011 and next year there’s a biopic about him.

I remember watching this on TV and was convinced Tommy would be the winner.
